Oooooh what character?
No no, your post is fine. Jack wouldn't know those things. I've got a post like half written so I might finish it on my lunch break. My day is ok lol. How's yours?
Nice! Also I was trying to imply this in the post but idk how clear I made it – the visions and sights lexa had were a result of 9's power, but the pain she felt was memories of her own trauma when she was a baby dredged up again. All that fear and pain and self preservation hit her like a freight train and she needed the person who hurt her to not be able to hurt her anymore. She didn't go through as much shit as the others, but it was still pretty traumatizing for a baby. She was freed when she was two I think.

I work for 11 hours today so a post might take a while lol
i have no excuse for this post.
Trick was fast. But not fast enough. She had disappeared in the time it'd taken 9 to launch his attack, but for a fraction of a second they'd both held her makeshift weapon.

And for that fraction of a second her world was nothing but shadows of fear made solid. Flashes of torment, of suffering, of terrible hopeless desperation moved before her eyes. But there was more than just the visions. Phantom pains, too solid to be imagined, too chilling to be real, lanced their way through her body. They stabbed through her skin, into her very bones, destroying, stealing, scarring. They cut and tore, taking all that made her whole, leaving aching, empty fire in its place.

Something hot burned like blood in her throat – a scream trying to claw its way out into the world.

Trick reappeared in the world a scant yard away from Black Jack, facing 9. She was pale and shaking, her eyes wide as they stared at nothing. She stumbled as she found herself in reality, unable to stay upright. She fell back, a hand barely catching herself as it scraped against the harsh edges of the road. She was freezing. She couldn't breathe she couldn't breathe

Air rushed out of her icy lungs in a loud shaking gasp. Frantic breath rasped through her body as she tried to find reality again, wide eyes finally coming into focus. Trick blinked in the sunlight. She looked up at 9. Then across the street at a tall, glass-walled building. Then down at herself. Breath still coming out in heavy, shaking gasps, Trick narrowed her eyes and forced herself to her feet. It was a difficult task when she was trembling so, and echoes of pain were still reverberating through her body. But eventually she managed to stand, though hunched and shaking. Her white-knuckled grip on her weapons released and they clattered to the ground.

She looked at 9 and time itself seemed to hold its breath, waiting for a pin to drop.

Then Trick was gone, teleporting in front of him in an instant. He brought his hands up in reaction, but Trick was on him before he could do anything. She grabbed hold of his wrists and the two disappeared, only to reappear on the far side of the street, inside the building with glass walls.

Or rather, 9 was inside the building. Trick was standing across from him, just outside the glass. With his hands. Trick let her arms drop, still holding them. The glass had cut clean through his forearms, halfway between his wrists and elbows. Thick, crimson blood poured down both sides of the glass, pulling sticky trails when Trick's pieces fell from the wall. Her eyes didn't leave 9's shocked ones as her hands fell limp at her sides, still wrapped around his wrists. His fingers were twitching. She dropped them and they landed with a wet splat in growing pools of blood.

She flashed away again, appearing behind him and already halfway through a roundhouse kick aimed at his head. Something halfway between a growl and a shout escaped her as her foot collided. He hadn't even hit the ground when she kicked again, this time sending him straight into the glass. Cracks spiderwebbed out from the impact. 9 lay still, more and more blood staining his clothes and skin. Trick stared down at him for a moment before teleporting herself back into the middle of the street.

Her amber eyes flashed molten gold in the sunlight, something angry and feral and desperate in them. The fire that danced within them, normally focused and controlled had become an inferno, overwhelming in its fury. She eyed the scene around her, taking in the environment, escape routes, threats – but those people gathered there, they weren't threats. Cops, civilians… they stared at her with wide eyes and blood-drained faces, frozen in what could only be fear.

And something seemed to click back into place. Her eyes widened imperceptibly. Her hands started to tremble as her fingers curled to touch each other, finding blood that was not hers. Beneath her scarf her lips parted in realization and she tried to swallow – only to find her throat dry and raw, as though she'd been screaming. Something hot pricked at her eyes as the reality of what'd happened crashed down around her.

What had happened?

Through sheer force of will, Trick shoved it down. Her eyes, shaken but clear, came back into focus. Her mouth closed, her jaw setting. Her shaking hands tightened into fists. She would deal with what she'd done, what these people had seen, how they watched her like she was a landmine they'd stumbled upon and were waiting for to blow – she'd deal with it all later. Her job wasn't done.

Her eyes found Black Jack, daring him to try something.
Cool post! I'm at work so I'll post either during my break or when I get home.

However charming the sight of Artemis struggling with Nura might've been, it was a very different first-hand experience. Nura was a very heavy gryphon with very sharp talons and a very hard beak. She seemed oblivious to all of this as she pinned Artemis down and investigated (nipped, pulled, and shoved). Eventually Artemis just gave up resisting and fell limp, wincing at Nura's prodding. Instead, she tried to look over her head at the two lords as they spoke and debated.

Her choices were feral mask children, adults she'd already stolen from, or an ancient elemental lord with dubious reliability. Fantastic.

Nura finally seemed to notice that her 'playmate' had stopped moving and pulled away from Artemis' hair. Wide, dark eyes blinked down at her. Artemis stared back. When she pushed herself up, the gryphon finally removed a heavy, taloned foot from her chest. Artemis looked down to make sure there was not blood leaking through her clothes, wincing as her lungs finally expanded. Nura chirped and sat down, looking far too pleased with herself. A long tail curled around her feet. Artemis tried not to hesitate as she reached a hand out to the gryphon, allowing a sniff. She curled her hand up along the beak and scratched again at the soft feathers above it. Nura trilled in pleasure.

With a sigh, Artemis heaved herself to her feet and turned to the two lords.

"I've made a living off of idiotic ideas," she said. She looked from one man to another. "One more can't hurt." She somehow managed to keep the sarcasm from leaking into her voice.

It did seem to be the only real option, though. Artemis had never fared well when forced to play with others. She was better at playing them. And when she inevitably slipped up (because she always managed to forget that she wasn't as clever as she thought she was) there was usually running involved. Away. And where exactly was she going to run away to trapped on Hellmurder Island? No, better to not pick sides in a centuries-long blood war and keep to the shadows. Figure out how to survive on her own and use the groups as a last resort. Besides, she had Oseely.

Well. Sort of. He'd called himself the patron of liars and thieves, after all. But he was a resource, nonetheless. She wouldn't trust him to not get her killed, but he had information he was willing to share.

Artemis bent down and picked up her staff. Straightening up, she looked back at Oseely.

"I think I'd like to learn those sigils now."
i mean they probably did plenty of shitty things to her but she was a baby. you can only get so rough with a baby. but yeah she doesn't remember it because she was so young. it probably had some unknown psychological effects on her though. loud noises, white coats, and needles might set her off.

finding out this other person working against the scientists and rescuing babies can be part of the mystery lol! but does all of this sound ok? anything to add?
idk it's like something to bond over? they messed with both of us let's kick their ass? you are useful to me and we both want these people gone so i guess i won't kill you yet giving us time to form a strong, complex bond? but yeah i get what you mean that they both already have potential to really care for each other. i totally dig the idea of them being siblings! don't be so hard on yourself your ideas are rad! ^.^

ok ok so they be siblings. big bro and little sis. jack's first interaction with his long lost little sister was to find her hot and hit on her. nice. well actually, it was to try and kill her lol.

ok so here's my idea for lexa's backstory: jack was taken as an infant, right? so how about for one reason or another they snagged his mother, too. they tortured and ran experiments on people as evil organizations do, permanently screwing up jack's psyche in an attempt to make him a killer or give him powers or whatever. while they were doing that, they were also running tests on momma, as well as maybe other women to see if giving powers to a developing embryo was more effective than inducing a change in children.

(this likely means that lexa and jack are half siblings since the scientists weren't super concerned about who fertilized what eggs as long as there were results. i'm p sure lexa doesn't know the parents she grew up with aren't her birth parents, and her backstory hints that she grew up in a french-vietnamese household. so she's likely some sort of mixed-race to look like she at least plausibly came from her parents. idk tho, east asian/white kids rarely look like either parents. i know from experience, lol. she'd probably kinda look like her little brother though, who was the parents' birth child)

so something finally stuck when lexa came around and she was the first live subject to be born with powers. scientists were super stoked. then they used her genes as the basis to give everyone else their powers. somehow someone got baby lexa out her parents adopted her, and all the shit went down back at the lab with the other kids and jack.

how does that all sound? feel free to suggest alterations.
