Current Geez, it's been 11 months since I last logged in. Sorry to anyone I was RPing with, real life got in the way and I guess I just lost track of time.

@CaptainManbeard my man, I love the story lines you're laying out. I take it we're meant to have a hand in writing the story, since you referred to your players as co-writers instead?

Anyway, lemme lay down my character idea, in general terms: southern himbo gearhead. Big, sweet, and seems dumb in some ways, but he gets machines on an intuitive level.

Maybe he starts to learn how the alien ship works, and helps repair it(guided by our Zordon).

If there's an arc where we lose the nano-suits, maybe he builds a simpler, mechanical version to get by, using his knowledge of alien tech and human mechanical engineering.

Let me know what would be going too far.

Haha, thanks! I'm a writer, so I am thoroughly passionate about deeply-woven narratives :D. Here's the cover of my upcoming novel! This is Mallory Dane tapping into his Blue Phoenix powers, and yes, the aura was inspired by Dragon Ball, haha.

And I like your character idea, perhaps his temp suit is more akin to Iron Man's earlier tech with visible separation of the metal plates and such. Though, I would advise against playing him as too dumb, as he would need a sharp enough mind to comprehend and utilize the alien tech and programming languages of the ship. His intelligence would likely need to be on par with a Starfleet Engineering officer, for instance. Perhaps he starts off as "dumb," but that's only because he hasn't truly applied himself yet? Perhaps becoming a Power Ranger gives him a bit of a mental boost and also helps jumpstart his motivation to improve himself. You could also play him as autistic and use that as an explanation for why he's incredibly intelligent about some stuff but completely ignorant about other stuff. Just an idea :D.
Ooooh, now I am envisioning an eccentric, goofy stage magician with a fondness for slime named Ivan Ooze who performs at children's birthday parties, but business has been drying up and his wife is about to leave him due to their financial difficulties. He could ultimately merge with the purple slime symbiote, before becoming the toughest villain they've faced to date. His transformation could be similar to Joker's in "The Killing Joke," and then he ends up betraying Zedd and Bandora, imprisons them, and destroys the Command Center and the Nanosuits, setting in motion the journey to Phaedos for the Rangers.

Although Ivan's face and voice will be that of the human magician (and modeled after actor Paul Freeman), we could say the symbiote has some fragments of residual memories from Bandora and her descendants due to his close proximity with the Purple Nanosuit during his gestation period. We could also use inspiration from Majin Buu in DBZ to make him an exceptionally hard villain to kill, with a few false victories before he is actually permanently defeated.
Yeah, a third avian is fine! And all the Rangers can fly if you'd like, since we all have dragons as the primary animal.

So, just to recap, these are the current colors claimed:

Me (Cap): Green, Purple
Crimson: Pink
Winds: Black
Forsythe: Red or Copper
Gisk: Blue
Duthguy: Not specified

I hope I didn't miss anyone. Assuming we go with this roster, all original seven Ranger roles are filled, though Duthguy hasn't posted in this thread in a while, so I'm not sure if he's still participating. If not, then we could start out with five Rangers and then someone could play a sixth later on. Alternatively, we could say there were six Nanosuits instead of seven and the sixth person could become the new Purple Ranger after Bandora's defeat or something. If we don't get any more interest in this RP and it ends up just being us, I will probably just play that sixth Ranger myself. Since Bandora doesn't have an actual flesh body anymore, she could target one of her descendants in Japan to be the "host" inside the suit, perhaps an older woman who looks similar to Machiko Soga, the actress who played Bandora in Zyuranger. Then after her defeat, the Purple Nanosuit is purged of the witch's mind, and perhaps the teenage granddaughter of the former host becomes the new Purple Ranger and joins the other five Rangers. This could be around the time Lord Zedd surfaces, and while a remnant of Bandora still exists independent of the suit, she no longer has any Ranger powers, only her blood magic and sorcery.

Much later on, Zedd and Bandora could concoct a scheme to try and take the Purple Nanosuit back, including secretly infecting the Purple Ranger with a virus that gradually saps her power away. This energy then condenses and exits her body as purple snot, becoming a slimy symbiote similar to Venom in Spider-Man. Ultimately, this new being could gather enough power to become a version of Ivan Ooze.
Added a Stranger Things/Stardew Valley idea :D.
I did but it was a bit cringy. The costumes look like a guy at comic con with construction foam and some plaster could do a better job, and the less said about the horrid CGI the better. The zords look like Transformers beaast wars, which looked good because it was completely CGI. Having the film as a set is just awful.

Sidenote: Probably done with my character :D

At the time, I actually thought their suits looked way better than the spandex, lol. And the music was just kicking, particularly during the skydiving, rollerskating, and initial combat scenes. I particularly love the fight scene right before they transform, though: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bkac679n-fM

But yeah, the CGI was bad, but not too bad for 1995, lol.
Have you seen the old Power Rangers movie from 1995? I watched it obsessively as a kid, lol. Here's a collection of scenes with Dulcea, and the part where the Rangers get their spirit animals inspired my ideas for our characters' adventures on Phaedos:

And here is a scene where the Rangers finally unlock the Great Power:

It could be interesting if every ranger searched for the power source on their own tho, perhaps if they did not all lose the powers at the same time. I kinda get pai zhua vibes from scanning the animals into the suits.

Wind's character could perhaps resort to magic with those looks and get help at the rootcore. Et cetera.

We could say that they all go to Phaedos together to get the Zeo Crystals, but like in the Zeo Quest on the show, they are each transported to a separate area, which can be pocket dimensions within the temple or something. Perhaps these illusionary worlds are created from each Ranger's memories and thoughts, and they must each confront their inner demons alone before they are able to pass on. That way, we can all still have a unified mission, but each of us can craft a solo world and adventure. Once we each accomplish whatever we need in our respective dream worlds, a portal could open that transports us into the Zeo Vault. Perhaps the act of us overcoming these challenges shows the AI controlling the Temple that we were indeed chosen by Zordon, and this sort of resets the system, fixing the malfunction.

Alternatively, we could say Zordon hid the Zeo Crystals in various places spread throughout the galaxy and we each go off in search of one, but I think the Phaedos idea does a good job of balancing both solo ventures and an overarching collaborative team effort.

Cool. I'm going with it then.

I like the idea of power-ups as the story progresses. Like Forsythe mentioned with the modes.

Yeah, perhaps at some point the Nanosuits get destroyed and they have to find a new power source to recreate them with greater abilities. That part could by sort of like their Ninja Quests or Zeo Quests or something. We have Bandora as the initial antagonist, and I have some ideas to bring in variations of Lord Zedd and Ivan Ooze later on. Perhaps we say the Rangers travel to the planet Phaedos and meet Dulcea like in the first movie, but say that is actually where the Zeo Crystals are located. Perhaps we can say Zordon traveled there to make the first Nanosuits many centuries ago, and he has a secret vault where he kept the remaining Crystals, watched over by Dulcea. But the temple's defense mechanisms have malfunctioned during Zordon's long slumber, forcing Dulcea to flee to a nearby plateau. In order to reclaim the temple and the Zeo vault, the Rangers will have to defeat the automated guards and monsters, which will prove difficult without their powers. Luckily, Dulcea is able to channel some of their residual spiritual energy to the surface, granting them some of their old abilities, but it will drain away quickly, meaning they must reach the Zeo Crystals within three days.

Once they get the Crystals and build new Nanosuits, we can say it allows four animals instead of three, so that in addition to copying their original three, they can absorb a fourth lifeform unique to Phaedos. During that part, we can each create a custom animal, which should prove fun :D.

If we go this route, I will tweak Zordon's backstory to include mention of Phaedos and Dulcea, but he won't go into too much detail until such a time as they need to travel to that world. I also don't think he would willingly abandon Dulcea, so I'm going to say that instead of choosing to slumber for so long, he was forced into hibernation mode during that final battle against Bandora. I'll flesh it out more in the actual IC intro post.
Character ideas I'm playing with right now:

🟆 Qu Blue Mage (or Black Mage for something a little different).

🟆 Tonberry (undecided job, though wouldn't it be great as a bard or dancer?).

🟆 Yuke Summoner (under the implication that Summoners are a thing in this RP -- I mean to ask if they would be similar to FFX on some grander scale or would Summoners be more like D&D and the like where it's just various creatures/elementals?).

🟆 Moogle Thief, kupo!

🟆 Chocobo, kweh!

🟆 Al Bhed Gunner.

I'm not really a silly RPer. Would these do well as comedic relief? No doubt. But I want to assure everyone that I'll still take writing them fairly seriously. There may be certain limitations, I understand, such as being a Chocobo. I just think about how you can play as one in the Chocobo's Dungeon games and it even has a variety of jobs like the mainline FF games!

You guys let me know if any of these sound intriguing. I usually cut my characters from a different cloth, but I still want to be part of a group that everyone has fun with!

Yeah, Summoners exist, though they work a little different than in FFX, at least mine does. Here's a snippet from the first post about my viera character:

Aedarya Tamreone, a female viera summoner who can call upon spirits from the Feywild, a separate plane of existence that dwells deep within the Lifestream from which all Aether flows.
Could go with a transparent graphene shield kinda like in superior iron man.

Myself I am going for something like this: Basic - Radiant mode - Eclipse mode

You have those links set to private, lol. And when I mentioned a face covering, I was thinking more to keep their identities secret.
