Back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth, I got started with writing online on the Spore forums. Man, those were the days. We're talking like 12 years ago 2010-ish!

I've been here on and off for almost as long, and have GM'd a bunch of different things to varying success.

Word of my splendor:

The only people that seem to have actually voted are me, Hael, and Cyclone, and it's two for the islands and one for the trade.

Willy and Voltus have both expressed neutrality.

Yeah but then Hael kinda switched his vote and Willy did say he'd prefer the slow tension (which I presume to have meant not the island thing)...I don't even know which idea has more support now.

I'll stop being petty about it and trying to sway people to my side; if Willy and Hael clarify their positions then I'll just accept whatever that leaves us at.

I'm fine with either but if possible I prefer slow escalation.
I want to write some posts about Yllendthyr actually being in peace.

Does this switch it to three in our favor and two for the islands?

I was joking with my last post, but if you feel this way then we could actually go with the trade dispute
I was hoping that you'd choose the trade dispute... Wrote like two paragraphs about the bombing but deleted them because I thought people would side on the trade...

Well the vote is 2 against 3 then. Of course, as GM you can always make your vote count for three so that our side wins lol
I'd like to say that I still like the original idea, and that it doesn't necessarily have to start a world war, it can just be what begins a new era of international tension.

So I'm cool with what we have to start out with, and then that other stuff can just be the escalation.

Fine. Unless the others that aren't online swoop in and vote for the trade dispute, I guess we'll do this. The islands first, then maybe the Avalia conflict later once Tin has licked its wounds.

What he said. Tension is always a better way, that way when it bursts out and the bombs go off (there will be bombs) it makes more sense. Plus, I personally find it more entertaining that way. Watching as both sides move the daggers closer to the other's throat.

Wa. People aren't picking the one that i was hoping they would!

But on a serious note, like I just said to Willy, I maintain that a trade dispute will cause tension and escalate much slower than what Tin would see as an invasion of lands they own (the elves setting up colonies) and a subsequent attack (the bombings). There's also the point that more nations would have reason to get involved in the trade dispute idea. Aside from Tin and its close friends and Yllendthyr and its friends (and the PRK puppet masters) what countries would even care about the island conflict?

@Willy Vereb

Also, if you don't want an immediate war the trade dispute seems like a better choice. With the island conflict and the bombing, your nation is one of the main belligerents and there's no avoiding a war as soon as that takes place, which Voltus seems to want as the very first IC post.
@Willy Vereb

I gave the brief summary; it wouldn't be as rapid as I explained. Tin would probably gradually piss nations off one by one, by following through with their threats to shoot down any nation's planes and by impounding foreign ships and impressing their sailors. It'd also take a while for the global economy to start reeling from the sudden closure of an entire market. If Avalia declared war immediately (which might mot even be the case) then it might be a while before other nations get embroiled and start piling in, so you could do whatever while the war remains isolated.

This doesn't have to happen right away, either. How soon this begins and how quickly we bring other nations in can be determined once we choose which conflict to go with.
@Voltus_Ventus

So what about Yllendthyr? They're still trying to grab islands?

If it goes beyond just an attempted Communist uprising and into a 3-sided World War, I suppose the other idea that I was going to do (the one I PM'd you) will have to be scrapped or saved for later, as there'd be too much going on at once.

Since I see it as us choosing one or the other, I may as well spill the beans and say what it is to see if people would prefer it to be the primary conflict rather than the island wars. Avalia refuses to trade with Tin, oppresses Ajdars inside their country, and is generally just a thorn in Tin's side.

So shortly after when the new Sultan is crowned, which will probably be my first post, he would take an aggressive stance by embargoing and blockading Avalia. That strait to the inner sea that Tin controls would be shut down, and Tin would threaten to shoot down any aircraft within their range that go to or from Avalia.

Since Avalia is a big exporter of aircraft and that special super-gas that several nations use, cutting off the world's supply and inflicting significant economic damage on Avalia and all its trade partners would probably lead to war. A big war, that would probably involve more nations than this island conflict would.

Personally I'd like to just have the PRK arming the island natives to hurt Tin as a side thing, with this trade war as our maim focus. I just find it more interesting as an idea. What do you all think?
I've made the executive decision to use the bombings to start off the RP. Expect an IC soon, this time I will follow up on that statement.

hopefully...

Edit: but who will be contesting the Islands?

Tin and...

I choose you Willy. You and Cyclone both contest The Zanjer Islands, Cyclone will have official control on the west half and Willy the east.

Wait, I reread this and now even I'm a bit confused on what's going on. I originally put contested because the natives were obviously still fighting me, Yamatai had laid claim to some of the islands, and other nations presumably might not recognize Tin's ownership over the islands.

So to be clear, now:
1) Yamatai is not a part of this now; Voltus won't be controlling them as they compete with Tin over the islands as was first planned
2) The natives are still resisting colonization attempts and fighting invaders
3) The PRK is arming the natives to help them fight the Tinite invaders
4) Now the elves are also colonizing some islands and Tin is getting pissed
5) The Communists are bombing colonies on both Tin and elven controlled islands, in an attempt to get them to go to war for some reason?

This is a really complex situation and we should probably figure out what's going on (and what the backstory/motivations for everything is) so that we're all on the same page.
KalMea will probably be pulled into this pretty quickly if Tin escalates this into a full-blown war, which could very well happen.

Well I was going to have elven mercenaries form the bulk of my air force, but if this is how we're going to start then perhaps I should reconsider
