The videos you never watched. He mentions it at one point. Similar to how the author is aware of a lot of the plotholes but couldn't think of a consistent way. I'd have to rewatch to get his sources, though the admitting was in an interview and was shown at the end.

The light novels stopped like halfway through the first anime season. They were written for a contest, but it was too long to be entered. Then Accel World was taken up for publication and that caused SAO to be continued and published.
