I mean, many instances of the same phenomenon (7*8 being weird) doesn't imply a specific explanation. It just implies that the actual explanation probably explains them all. One ad hoc explanation will explain them all just as well as another ad hoc explanation. EDIT: Unless you're talking about several similar phenomena.
I'm talking about several similar phenomena. The reason this one feels weird is because they next instance of it occurring with numbers is... what? A few hundred? A few thousand? What's the next instance of it after this one? It's definitely high enough that it's not a commonly occurring thing like 7 x 8 can be.
