You don't need to play the first four games to get G.U. It's a sequel but honestly it's better to play it before the //Games. Knowing what happens in them makes certain things better, but they're relatively minor. You might not even run across one of the characters, and learning the cool tie-ins with the //Games after beating vol.3 is almost better than knowing them beforehand.

That's not quite true. It was the longest running in certain categories, but I'm pretty sure Marvel or DC has the longest running period with either Superman or whatever Marvel started with.

That's so fucking sad. It was by far the best american comic series to ever be printed. They didn't even let them get to issue 300 to meet the milestone and give them time to give it a proper ending. Fucking Pen and his bullshit and the Archie CEO being a dick.
I'm nearly crying from happiness. For the 15th anniversary and year it's set in, .hack has the entire G.U. collection being remastered and released for PS4 and PC. Hopefully they'll remaster the original .hack//Games too soon so people can use their data in GU like in the originals, but still, this is the greatest thing.
