I know I've already touched on the New Order speech, but my inclusion of the video at the bottom of my latest post is to unequivocally let everyone know where exactly we are in the timeline.

If this skips you ahead a little bit then I apologise.

@Sep I'd personally love some interaction like that; I'm not sure you find my situation doable for that but we'll see tomorrow. :D

Meet at Shigeki.

- Sakana

The cryptic message had been left in the mailbox of every single member of his team, save for Unagi, who simply had it slid under her door early in the morning, long before anyone should have been up. But for the trio of shinobi that served under Sakana, Shigeki must’ve been one of the most familiar places by now. It was a small restaurant not far from the Uragiri clan compound, located high in one of the many industrial skyscrapers, and home to almost every single team meeting Sakana held. It offered a perfect overview of the clan compound and – more importantly – the koi ponds themselves. And while Sakana was hard to read, it had been rather obvious to most that the koi ponds were one of his favorite places – it had been the first place they met after they were assigned to his team – team 3 – and where they had their first ‘test’ – a simple battle in the water, sloshing around while the koi tried to steer clear of the four of them.

The test had no real purpose other than to see how quickly the three of them would stop cannibalizing each other and instead turn on the real threat, Sakana. But when you tell three shinobi to spar, they tend to focus only on the winning. A valuable lesson was learned that day, at the very least.

As the team got together, they were served with a pot full of stew. A dreadful looking one – the water looked like mud – but one whose taste was unrivalled. “We’re on stand-by duty today,” Sakana told the trio. As per usual, Sakana was sitting on one side of the dining booth, while the other three were sitting together on the other side – even in their sitting arrangement, the hierarchy was quite clear. “So you know the drill,” he continued, “don’t stray from my side and keep your head down.”

Without even looking down, Sakana spooned a spoonful of stew into his mouth, his black eyes scanning the trio in front of him. They were certainly a team of characters – a golden boy, whose family had quite a reputation, Sakana’s own sister, who spent far too much time looking into a mirror, and an orphan, and a stubborn one at that. Usually teams were constructed by virtue of some sort of unifying strategy or capability, but this team seemed to be built mostly around how little they had in common.

“Gareki,” Sakana suddenly said, interrupting the silence, “chunin exams are going to take place in six months. I’m signing you up.” He continued to look at Gareki, his eyes peering through the younger boys’ eyes, looking for any hint of a reaction or a response that wasn’t words, before his eyes fell on the two chunin that flanked Gareki. “You guys passed the test a year ago, so you’ll be helping me get Gareki ready. I’ll be satisfied when—”

The door to the restaurant suddenly slammed open, an alarmed shinobi running in. This was strange, since the only form of conventional business that Shigeki’s restaurant seemed to have was team 3’s visits. Otherwise, the place was more or less empty all the time. “Team 3, you are needed at the eastern border – Konohagakure forces are trespassing and the Amekage has summoned you to respond!”

For a brief moment, Sakana paused, looked at the shinobi, then looked back to his team. “—… when he can take you both on at the same time. Practice whenever we aren’t on standby duty.” Once he had finished his sentence, Sakana slipped to the side of the booth and stood up, stretching his hands, and then his arms. “Been a while,” he said, finishing his slight stretches, and gesturing to his team. When they left, he put some money onto the table to pay for the stew that they’d barely gotten to touch.

Amegakure Eastern Border .

Traveling towards the eastern border was not an affair that usually took long at all, and the team arrived more or less precisely on time. Border response was a natural part of the work of an Amegakure shinobi, so for most of them except for perhaps Gareki, this would probably not be the first time they performed such an impromptu mission.

When team 3 arrived at the spot, it was pretty clear that shinobi had passed through here. There were footprints on the small clearing in the forest, leading east to west – Konohagakure forces, most likely, heading from Konoha to Iwagakure or Sunagakure. Perhaps on a mission.

However, mission or not, it was not permitted for foreign shinobi to travel in and out of Amegakure without explicit written permission from the Amekage. And if these shinobi had permission, then the seal on the writ would’ve prevented the barrier team from noticing the entry of these shinobi.

The solution was clear – the Konoha shinobi needed to be removed from Amegakure or killed. Usually, shinobi caught with their pants down by Amegakure shinobi were happy to leave – there was plenty of war in general, there was no need to risk another one with Amegakure, a village who had not just made threats of assassination in the past, but had also made good on them. While an outright war with Amegakure would be over quickly, the fact that Amegakure could most likely assassinate high ranking targets and cripple an entire military decisively in the span of a month was enough deterrence for most villages to leave them alone – besides, the land Amegakure was built on wasn’t worth much.

But sometimes, shinobi’s pride got in the way, and they refused to leave.

As the team drew closer to the end of the tracks, they would slow down, avoiding a situation in which they might end up giving away their position. Beyond the treeline ahead of them, the shrouded figures of four shinobi moving around was hard to miss. A full team, perhaps?

Using the remarkable speed of a shinobi, Sakana jumped forwards into the clearing, maintaining distance between himself and the four unknown shinobi. Sakana had not explicitly ordered his team to do anything, and since they had been together for a year now, there was no reason for him not to trust their intuition and decisions. Whether they hid and waited, or joined Sakana in the field, Sakana would speak up to the four hooded figures.

“You’re trespassing. You need to leave Amegakure, and travel through the land of Grass to get to Iwagakure, and through the land of Rivers to get to Sunagakure.”

Caught off-guard, the foursome turned around and faced Sakana, revealing their faces in the sunlight that was starting to appear even through the thick Amegakure rain clouds. Their headbands bore the marks of Konohagakure, so their intel had been correct in that regard.

“By whose order?” the tallest of the four asked – a black haired man, a few years older than Sakana at the least.

“Mine,” came the reply from Sakana.

“We’re just passing through. We won’t take longer than an hour, we just want to rest here,” the man tried to argue, gesturing towards his three companions. They all seemed a little younger – roughly Unagi’s age, perhaps. Either genin or chunin – the lack of flak vests made it hard to tell.

One of the three younger shinobi had a large scroll on his back, protected on either side with a metal cap, preventing it from getting damaged if it accidentally bumped into anything. The other two wielded weapons – one, a large sword, the other two smaller swords, lighter and faster than the large sword. The man who was supposed to be the jonin was unarmed except for his shinobi pouch, which doubtlessly carried a great amount of kunai.

Sakana shook his head. “No. Rest when you leave Amegakure. You’re only an hour away from the border.”

Hello, and welcome to Naruto: Black Sun, a new Naruto roleplay hosted by yours truly, Odin. After countless RP's in the Naruto roleplaying community on Roleplayerguild, it is time for yet another installment of the Naruto universe in roleplay format that sticks to the roots of the Naruto universe.

The aim is to recreate Naruto's appealing mood. The life of a shinobi isn't about roses, and it certainly isn't about all things good in life. Instead, it is about sacrifice. Because at it's core, that is what being a shinobi means - sacrifice. Sacrificing your 'normal' life to become a warrior and fight in the name of the village, to protect it's interest and keep the village safe.

And, if you just so happen to enjoy being a weapon, a tool, a cog in the machine of warfare... then all the better, because it means you can enjoy your own sacrifice.

This is reflected in the premise of the roleplay - it follows canon events entirely and then skips ahead several years - one hundred and fifty years to be precise - which gives us a convenient method of getting rid of otherwise problematic canon elements. Naruto and Sasuke existed, but obviously are no longer around. Neither are their offspring. Anything after that? Well, it's vanished into obscurity. As they say, the rest is history, and in this roleplay, we can take that very literally. But Odin, you say, how does that even represent the mood of Naruto?

Simply put, the world hasn't continued as Naruto and Sasuke no doubt intended. Yes, the curse of hatred is gone, and that is very nice, but hatred itself still exists. The Five Great Shinobi Villages didn't exactly keep getting along. By pretending everyone gets along, the problems only worsen, and there is a moment where all those pent up frustrations.. get released. They pop. And that explosion will be bigger than any previous war.

Interested in seeing how your destiny can be smithed within the confines of this new age? Continue reading.

Nations are like a match. They are lit, burn in a great intense flame, and continue burning, until the fuel is exhausted and they slowly, very slowly, fade away and ultimately extinguish. The only proof of their existence then, the ruins of their people if you will, is the smoke. But even the smoke slowly fades away. And then, nothing remains.

After Naruto and Sasuke unified the Shinobi nations and the great war was won, there was a brief sliver of hope. Hope that the countries would remain unified and at peace. But as time went on, the smaller shinobi nations went unrewarded for their sacrifices during this war - and their contributions to the war effort. If anything, it seemed that the great shinobi nations thought that these smaller villages should consider themselves lucky to have been able to contribute, should consider themselves lucky for continuing to exist.

There was no attention paid to their suffering, and Amegakure was hit perhaps the worst of all. With Nagato dead, Pain left without a host, and Konan sacrificing herself in an attempt to rip the head off the snake that was the Akatsuki, the village was left without leadership. A power vacuum had formed and with the looming threat of war with other-worldy forces, this put Amegakure in a position that they could not recover from. It was, perhaps, only slightly ironic that the village that had been formed specifically because of their lack of power to fight back against the great shinobi nations would now suffer once again because none of the Kage's paid any attention to their struggles once again.

The next one hundred and fifty years would be spent filling the vacuum, with warlords, mercenaries and demagogues taking up the mantle of being the leader of Amegakure. Internal struggle would dictate the political sphere in Amegakure for the next hundred years as the world changed around them.

Amegakure lost it's edge, it's industrial capabilities beginning to stagnate under the mounting pressure of the growing strife within the nations, with the nations surrounding them catching up. It took a hundred years for a leader to arrive who could take charge, and enforce a more rigid political system of elections for leadership positions within Amegakure rather than cutthroat politics.

Fifty years later, Amegakure is a shell of it's former self, but still stands strong, alone, in a world that is no longer the peaceful cooperative environment Naruto and Sasuke had intended, but rather, had returned to it's roots.

One hundred fifty years after the Fourth Great Shinobi War ended, a new generation of genin has graduated. Are they ready to take destiny into their hands? Can they do what it takes to become a shinobi of remarkable talent? One hundred fifty years after the Fourth Great Shinobi War ended, a new threat looms on the horizon. A threat that goes unnoticed by the great shinobi nations, a threat that requires the full attention of the village.

The timeline begins where Naruto and Sasuke together managed to defeat the Otsutsuki threat, defeating Kaguya and effectively ending the war. Tsunade resigns as Hokage, Kakashi takes up the mantle and continues to foster the networks that Naruto had built. Once Naruto becomes Hokage, the Shinobi world experiences their 'golden age' or 'dark age' depending on who you ask. The times were peaceful, there was no major incidents and even small scale skirmishes and conflicts were quickly and easily resolved. Gradually all Great Shinobi Nations increased their dedication and commitment to the union of shinobi nations, though all of them remained sceptical.

Following Naruto's passing, and the disappearance of Sasuke, a new hokage was elected. A man of the Shimura clan, namely Genji Shimura, and thus relative of the late Danzou Shimura, creator of the ROOT foundation, took over this mantle under the promise of 'righting the wrongs of previous generations,' something commonly understood to mean the wrongs of his ancestor, Danzou Shimura.

Opposite to that, Genji Shimura slowly dialed back the commitments to the union of villages, causing the union to become more unstable. As the union had decreased competition between the various shinobi nations, there was a severe lack in issues that needed shinobi to be resolved, and thus a lack of clientele and jobs for the villages. Genji had hoped that through slowly pulling back from the union he could diminish these effects and gain back some work opportunities.

It was not, however, Genji Shimura that broke the pact. Following the death of Naruto, Raikage A from Kumogakure saw the direction Konohagakure was going in, and saw the storm hanging overhead. With no sociable and likeable characters like Naruto in leadership positions, A withdrew from the union entirely, claiming that Kumogakure was the strongest of all villages and had a right to self determination.

This caused the other villages to also withdraw, and signalled the end of the union of villages and was a prelude to the war that would come. Although it A never lived long enough to see the dawn of war, he lived long enough to see the chaos he'd sown, perhaps intentionally, and when he passed, his last words imparted on Killer Bee the wisdom to leave Kumogakure - words that Killer Bee did not heed.

The new Raikage was a shinobi by the name of Hamda, soon renamed to A. His first act as the new Raikage was the assassination of Killer Bee and the order to capture the Eight Tails and transplant it into his own body. With Killer Bee dead, the Eight Tails went on a rampage and destroyed the shinobi that were meant to capture him, before escaping into the ocean. It was said that the shockwaves of his plunge into the water could be felt in the Kirigakure harbour.

Following the disastrous attempt of capturing the Eight Tails, Hamda blamed Kirigakure for the failure and accused them of sending ANBU to steal the Eight Tails. Whether it was true or not, war was declared and within two days of the declaration of war, Kirigakure and Kumogakure forces clashed on the border.

Citing the former union of shinobi villages, Kirigakure called on Konohagakure, Sunagakure and Iwagakure for aid in the war. Sunagakure declined the call to arms on the basis that they could not fund a war at that very moment but promised the delivery of a shipment of weapons. Iwagakure did not wish to anger their militarily superior neighbors and declined the call to arms, proclaiming that the union of shinobi nations was no more and that they thus had no obligation to help. Konohagakure accepted the call to arms, however, but it was quickly proven that this was merely a symbolic show of support to the nation of Kirigakure as no Konohagakure forces fought Kumogakure forces during this war.

The war never reached a conclusion, and the battles reached a stalemate. A white peace was signed though the rivalry continued to exist. The following ten years were marked by a period of increasing restlessness, growing disparity and tension between the nations, and a flashpoint event that ignited the Fifth Great Shinobi War.

The Fifth Great Shinobi War was characterized by a lack of awareness as to what sparked this sudden onslaught of world-wide combat and death. The previous years of peace, however short, had left many shinobi dissatisfied with this new status quo and, in desperate attempts to bring back the old political situation, they took to rebellious acts of defiance against their kage in an effort to spark war. Although initially unsuccesful when the union of shinobi still existed, these efforts proved to be more succesful with the advent of Kumogakures leaving the union, and other villages following suit.

Because of these dissident shinobi sparking war, it is unsure what the real cause for war was. For Kumogakure, they cited the retrieval of the eight-tails, which belonged to them according to a self-imagined law. For Iwagakure, they cited the retaking of land from Sunagakure, lands that were theirs according to arbitrary records that had been conjured up by them. Sunagakure cited self-defense, but later adjusted their war goals to include the seizure of power from Iwagakure and Kumogakure to prevent future aggressive behaviour. Konohagakure believed that they could play the role of world-police, like they had in the past, but were quickly shunned by other nations for their capitalization on the situation, and their neutral forces were treated with aggression, ensuring that Konohagakure would fight back against the aggressors. Kirigakure started their war to retrieve one of the Seven Swords of the Mist, one of which had fallen into the hands of a missing nin that had escaped from Kirigakure, and had taken refuge in Konohagakure, taking the sword with him.

The most important factor in this was that there were no alliances - everyone fought everyone. Most of the battles took place in border regions, with Konohagakure enduring a six-month siege of their village at one point before breaking free from the siege after a prolonged battle between the Raikage and Hokage, one which neither side won or lost.

Although the war was a terrible affair for all parties involved, as none of them gained anything from the war, it was a godsend for smaller villages like Takigakure, Yoshigakure, and Amegakure. The fact that all the five great nations were involved in war meant that clients were less likely to visit them -- as they were preoccupied -- and instead go to one of these small villages, who profited off of this war.

The war concluded with the Battle of Naruto Bridge where the five kages and their personal bodyguards met and fought a battle that would last over 8 hours. This battle resulted in the death of the Hokage, Kazekage, and Raikage, and after new kage's had been elected for all the countries who lost theirs, a peace treaty was drawn up which stipulated only small concessions, with most countries retaining their original borders. The Kirigakure missing nin was handed over to Kirigakure, though the sword was kept. All other involved parties received next to nothing.

The Skirmish Era was the period after the Fifth Great Shinobi War until the current day, during which most major wars that include three or more great shinobi nations have ended. Although wars still ocasionally occur, they typically are between 2 parties only. Other forms of combat between villages are limited to skirmishes and conflicting mission interests, such as one side playing bodyguard to an assassination target that is to be assassinated by another village.

Although relatively devoid of large-scale dramatic events, the Skirmish Era has been the era in which Amegakure retained it's power rather than lose it, like other smaller villages that seem to have vanished.

Fifty years before the current timeline, Amegakure stabilized, which was a major event as the otherwise chaotic nation squashed between other greater nations finally stood a chance at preventing them from preying on Amegakure's clientele, and the industry of Amegakure began picking up and churning out wares for exports again. The first leader of Amegakure was a man previously unknown, who had no great powers but was remarkably charismatic, able to prevent others from taking power away from him by reforming the political system to be more like that of Konohagakure and other nations, favoring elections over power struggles and factions.

Following the period of his leadership he ultimately resigned and lived out the rest of his life as a retired shinobi. The elections held after his resignation gave the leadership to a man, Hoshiyo, who stayed the course and continued improving Amegakure. Under his leadership the Shinobi Academy was greatly improved from a pure-combat crash course to a course that also favored strategic, tactical and academic purposes.

Under Hoshiyo the Arashi no Shugo-sha (嵐の守護者), the Stormguardians, were created, most often shortened instead to the Arekuruu (荒れ狂う) as a result of their tendency to be brutally effective at their job. The Arekuruu were modeled after the Konohagakure no Sato's Root (Ne) organization but lacked their 'Danzo' who assumed ultimate control, and instead were an ultra-secret organization that was covered in more shrouds and lies than even the ANBU.

During Hoshiyo's reign, it became more and more evident that smaller villages were being wiped off the map, with communications between these villages sometimes suddenly vanishing. Upon investigation of these incidents it became clear that there was more going on, as there were frequently marks of battle on the former locations of these villages, leaving behind only ruins and smoldering buildings. Despite the investigation of the Arekuruu into the incidents, no clues were found as to who committed these acts of violence, leaving any assumptions up in the air as to who was causing these massacres.

Until his death, only Hoshiyo knew of the Arashi no Shugo-sha, and after his death he entrusted their care to the next leader of Amegakure. A new leader for Amegakure was elected only five months ago, with Hoshiyo having ruled for 24 years before he died of a tumour.

The Arashi no Shugo-sha (嵐の守護者), the Stormguardians, were created by Hoshiyo. THeir existence is something of an urban legend and only the leader of Amegakure knows of their existence. They are modeled after ROOT -- in fact, the Amegakure orphanage is a known source of recruits for the Arashi no-Shugo. The Arashi no Shugo-sha is known for kidnapping promising orphans in foreign lands as well, and allegations have been made towards Amegakure no Sato that they are abducting children who, whether they are orphans or not, are not property of Amegakure. Of course, no admission of this can be given out by Amegakure no Sato, because the existence of the Arashi no Shugo-sha is a concept that even the citizens of Amegakure themselves are not sure about.

To get things straight -- the Arashi no Shugo-sha, or Arekuruu, do certainly exist. But not many people know of them and, beyond some alleged sightings of Arekuruu agents within the borders of Amegakure, nothing can be proven. Thus the urban legend was formed.

With a country that is as isolated as Amegakure, it is not strange that they take extreme measures to defend their borders. Due to the nature of Amegakure's position in the middle of three larger villages, they are forced to vehemently protect their borders at all costs. These units will go out and confront trespassers, ordering them to turn back and take the long way around Amegakure, and if they fail to do so, will engage and theoretically destroy the opponent. The border guards are typically lead by a borderguard-specific jonin, and then three regular shinobi, but can also consist of four borderguard shinobi.

Perhaps the most infamous of the Amegakure institutions, the orphanage employment service or otherwise known simply as 'the orphanage' is a service that deals with children abandoned by their parents or who lost their parents due to war. They come from all over - but mostly from Amegakure. This is due to the frequent usage of Amegakure lands to do battle in by other countries which causes displaced children to end up either in Amegakure or wandering into Amegakure - though, at times, the orphanage has been known to employ the Arekuruu to exfiltrate orphans from other areas outside of its' borders.

The orphanage spends most of it's time raising the children to become shinobi -- offering them a chance at a life where they can earn a living wage rather than having to beg on the streets if they're not adopted (which rarely happens in Amegakure -- there are enough mouths to feed as is). Those who are said to have special talents are siphoned off into the Arekuruu training trajects, where they are effectively brainwashed -- though Amegakure prefers to say they are 'made loyal.' Much has been learned from ROOT in that regard, and though they do not practice the brutal experience of having to kill a brother or sister, there are certainly ethical questions that can be asked here -- it is only a good thing that nobody knows about this, and that means nobody can ask these questions.

Empty as of yet.
@Odin good post. Enjoyed it.

Cheers mate.

@Odin Sep's just joking with you bro. It was horrible. I hated it. 1/10.

Nah it looks freaking amazing, I can't wait to read it.

I believe you.
I hope my post is at least somewhat accurate, but I had no clue what Dug's talk like. I did some research (read: asked smarter friends) about transportation in Coruscant, and this was my solution to the whole ''gotta get off-world'' problem Dai Dai currently faces.
Interacting with: no-one.

Coruscant had always been Dai Dai's favorite thing about returning to the temple. The way the city lit up at night was something that no other planet could hope to rival – it's beauty dazzling even the most stoic among the cities inhabitants. But tonight, the lights were different. Tonight, the sky lit up with the burning fires that razed the Jedi Temple. A place that, for a long time, Dai Dai had considered his home – as a youngling, and as a padawan. Perhaps there would be some sort of honor in it all, some sort of bravery, if they were simply bested by their foes. But that wasn’t how it happened – instead they were cut down like animals by none other than the clones they had been fighting alongside with and their hero, Anakin Skywalker. In the heat of the moment, escaping from the temple through a stroke of luck, there was not much time to ponder this. But, as he got away from the temple further and further, running as far as his feet would carry him, and then even further, the reality of the situation had caught up to Dai Dai. They weren’t defeated, they were betrayed. It stung, and if master V’raar had been here, then perhaps he would have had something clever or wise to say about it to dull the pain and explain why the force suddenly felt so.. different, before chastising Dai Dai for not knowing these things to begin with.

But master V’raar was dead.

And his absence stung even more than the betrayal they faced at the hand of Anakin. The sting, however, made way for confusion, panic, anxiety rather quickly. Slowly Dai Dai’s footsteps came to a halt, until he completely stopped, standing in front of the edge of a platform that oversaw a deep chasm leading to the “bottom” of the overworld. As he stood there, Dai Dai couldn’t help but feel helpless. It was like he was a young initiate again, brought to the temple on his first day, unsure of what was going to happen. Except this time it didn’t seem like there’d be a happy ending. No master Yoda to explain to him what it meant to be a jedi. Just fire and death.

Glancing back at the temple – now, nothing more than a dot of red-orange glow in the distance – Dai Dai felt something he did not often feel. Anger, frustration, fury. He knew these emotions were a path to the dark side, but what else was he meant to feel. Happiness, calm? In the face of such a tragedy? His brows furrowed inwards, his hands tightened into fists.

His feet dragged forward, as if he was going to somehow return to the temple, and slaughter them all one by one. But, before it could come to this idiocy, he was pulled back to reality by the voice of a stranger. Dai Dai glanced around, left, right, forward, before finally looking down and seeing that he was standing right in front of a Dug – and a particularly annoyed looking one, at that.

“Are you gonna pay up, or are ya’ gonna keep standing there,” the dug asked impatiently, standing on his arms while his legs were crossed. “I got otha’ customers here.”

“Excuse me,” Dai Dai answered, “pay for what exactly?”

“For da’ taxi ofcourse!” the Dug proclaimed, throwing his legs into the air as if Dai Dai had just committed a horrible faux pas. “Swear ta’ god you younglings are getting’ worse with da’ days.”

“Oh, I’m terribly sorry,” Dai Dai responded – his words polite as ever, being reminded of master V’raar telling him a soft voice got done more than a demanding one. “I do need transport, but I am afraid I’m not carrying any credits at the moment. Any chance you could.. give me a free ride?”

“Ye’ ye’! Sure, hop in!” the Dug proclaimed, waving his legs in the direction of his Coruscant taxi, before turning and pretending to walk towards it, stopping only to continue his little play, “hey, ya’ know what! Let me give the entirety of Coruscant a free ride, yea! That’ll make my kids happy, not havin’ any food, but at least their daddy’s a stinkin’ hero ain’t he? Get lost, kid! Yer’ in the way of payin’ customers!”

Dai Dai looked at the Dug, a little confused on what to do now – he got away from the temple, which was where the highest concentration of clone troopers would be, that much was sure. But if he took too long to get to a degree of safety, then before long the troopers would catch up. It was time to try something new. Dai Dai sighed deeply, thinking back.. what would master V’raar have done? .. there was this one trick that Dai Dai had seen master V’raar perform once.

Without any warning at all, Dai Dai lifted his hand and waved it from right to left in front of the Dug’s face. “You’ll give me a free ride to the undercity.”

The Dug looked absolutely puzzled, dumbfounded, perhaps even astonished at the sheer stupidity of this kid. It took a few seconds for him to even come up with a response to Dai Dai. Finally, he responded, “no.”

Now defeated, Dai Dai turned around, pondering where to go next. What to do next. There were no contacts in the city that he had – he’d been a cloistered pseudo-monk in the temple for most of his time on Coruscant, so there was barely any time to meet anyone, much less an actual reason to do so. Surely master V’raar would’ve had a smuggler he knew, or some sort of long-time friend with a ship. Dai Dai, however, had none of those things. And with all the jedi either dead or in hiding, there was nobody to help him.

For the first time in 18 years, Dai Dai was horribly alone.

The sound of resounding footsteps, not from civilians, but unmistakably from troopers, echoed behind him now. Turning around rapidly, Dai Dai immediately spots them, but realizes there is nowhere to go except.. down. Down over the ledge, into the great chasm that would lead to a certain death.

The Dug, too, is caught off-guard by the clone troopers, before his eyes catch the burning temple in the skyline behind them. For a moment, the Dug contemplates simply.. leaving – saving his own skin to drive a taxi another day. But then, he turns to Dai Dai. “Ya’ had a rough night, huh kid? .. can’t believe I’m giving one of you’s scumbags a ride fer’ free, but get in.”

With no time to waste, Dai Dai stepped into the Repulsorcraft airspeeder, followed closely by the Dug. Normally, it would be prudent to wait for more passengers to fill out the taxi, but given the “tight schedule” they were currently flying under, there would be no extra passengers for this ride. With a few quick movements the Dug brought the speeder to life, sputtering a little as it slowly but surely lifted itself off the ground, barely holding itself together.

“I don’t think we’re gonna make it off the platform like this!” Dai Dai tried to yell over the sound of the engine trying it’s best not to fall apart.

“Nah-nah! Been flyin’ this beauty for years, she may sound a little rough, but it’s pure powa’ unda the hood!”

Then, with a sudden jolt forwards that shook both Dai Dai and the Dug backwards and forwards, the speeder “sped” away. Only now the clone troopers caught on, rushing forward to try and stop the vehicle before it disappeared from the platform – one of them staying behind and radioing in to god knows where, “jedi refugee on the move from my location,” before following his comrades.

But they were much too late – with a twist of his control stick, the Dug sent the taxi into a nosedive, diving straight down towards the bottom of the over-city. With a maniacal laugh, the Dug yelled “the names Dongo, by the way! And, to tell ya’ the truth, I ain’t even got kids!”

Admittedly, now was not a great time for a conversation, much less when they were in what could only be described as a freefall that not even the most insane pilot would attempt. Just when it seemed like they were heading for a certain death on the long end of a multiple thousand feet fall into the chasm, the Dug straightened out the taxi and slowly brought back the speed, moving his taxi forward through the chasm of skyscrapers and platforms. As the buildings whizzed by, Dai Dai could only wonder as to the route Dongo was taking, his hands firmly grasping the edges of the taxi. He wasn’t even sure that taxi’s were legally allowed to move this fast – or even perform these type of maneuvers.

“I-I’m Dai Dai,” he finally managed to say, “I’m a… I’m a mechanic, from.. from Iridonia.” With a hasty move, he tried to conceal the lightsaber he had under his robes a little more, not realizing that the robes were probably even more of a telltale sign than the lightsaber probably was.

“Right, kid, and I’m a cosmetics salesman, drivin’ da’ taxi is just something I do for funsies, yeah?” Dongo replied sarcastically, although he neglected to tell Dai Dai that he knew what he was, perhaps out of some sort of vague respect for the Jedi – or, perhaps, because he simply disliked the alternative to the Jedi even more.

Once they reached one of the giant ventilation shafts that lead to the underworld, Dongo veered the airspeeder downwards again, this time at a much more relaxed pace than their initial freefall. “Ey’, kid! I’m gonna drop ya’ off at the cantina I like to visit – lots of drunkies there that need rides and don’t notice when I rip em’ off with a sob story about how my kids’ are starving. You find yourself a ship that can take you outta’ here, and then get back to Iridonia so you can do some engineerin’, ya hear?”

“Yes, mister Dongo, I will. Thanks for your help tonight – I was worried that, you know, with the lack of credits—”

“Aaaaaah, don’t mention it, kid. No, really, don’t. I might just regret not askin’ ya for everything ya have. You know, doing things for free, it’s against everythin’ I stand for. Nobody should ever get anythin’ for free, ya understand me kid?”

As the speeder came to a halt, Dai Dai stepped out of the speeder, his first steps a little wobbly. Now, Dai Dai was used to rough flying, but this had been.. something else entirely. “Thanks again, Dongo.”

“Yeah, kid, see ya! Tell ya’ kids about the great taxi-Dug Dongo, best pilot on this side of Coruscant!”

Neglecting to tell Dai Dai what the “other” side of Coruscant was, Dai Dai had no choice to believe him. And given his extreme free-fall flying in a taxi, the Dug might just have been telling the truth.

With a sinking feeling of uncertainty Dai Dai stepped into the cantina, receiving strange looks from some of the locals for arriving in a speeder to begin with, only doubled by his strange choice of apparel. It didn’t take a social genius to realize that Dai Dai was very much out of place here.
