Riku could only blink in silence. Team? Him? The outcome of the battle wasn't even on his mind anymore. Did Naoki really want him on his team? He supposed this was inevitable on some level. WARS format required teams in order to make it work. It wasn't hard to see that the old ways of battling solo in a royale or in a duel against another Gunpla was slowly being phased out. Today's tournament was one of the only opportunities Riku had had to compete in some form for this reason. He wasn't one to just invite himself onto someone else's team, and until now, no one had ever approached him.

WARS format... with opportunities to design everything from Mobile Armors to Warships. No way I can pass this up. His gaze shifted down to the broken Gunpla in his hand. That was something else he needed to mull over. With its present specs, the Metal Angel wasn't performing like he'd hoped it would. He'd already effectively decided it needed to have some of its armor slimmed down in order increase mobility, but it was also possible Riku would have to look into using a different model as the base for the build. He believed the beam spikes still made for an effective close range combat option, but the Titus was clearly too slow and clunky for his purposes.

At this point, Riku had brandished his phone. On it he was browsing for information on various suits from various series, hoping to find one that might better match the movement capability he was looking for. And that was when he saw it. It was a clip from a series he hadn't watched yet, and the machines there were moving in ways unlike anything he'd seen elsewhere. He looked up the series in question, discovering it used the Gundam elements and placed them in a fighting tournament rather than outright war. And then, in one of the clips, he saw one of the Gundams detach its shoulder armor pieces and reattached them to its fists, converting them into reinforced punching weapons. In addition to that it discarded the chest plate of its armor entirely, overall becoming much faster and more agile as a result. But it was the emphasis on boxing that really sold Riku on this machine.

"That's it!" he said to himself, not realizing he was speaking aloud, "I need that machine." he could already visualize a few ideas in his head. The question was, did the Gunpla Shop here at the arcade have any of that Gunpla in stock? Hopefully so, because Riku had already made up his mind. The model that would serve as the new base for Metal Angel... was that one: The Gundam Maxter.

"I'll be in the Gunpla store. Need to pick something up." he told Naoki suddenly before rushing off without another word. He returned to the Gunpla store and began his search.

Riku probably only has a small handful, and all solo. Tournaments tend to be team focused, and Riku's never been on a team. However, I'd say Riku has way more Build Competition wins under his belt, given how build crazy and artistic he is, though I'm guessing even those were mostly local stuff at the arcade shop.

I'm not too picky about ships, but I'd be partial to the Nahel Argama among the above suggestions. Of course, if it were my decision alone I'd be picking a Zanzibar, hands down. I'm a huge sucker for the Zeons, Char in particular so... yeah.

Turn-XCEED Gundam

Description: A unit built for Kai and Souji Kiryu's masterpiece, The Turn-XCEED is a heavily modified Turn-X redesigned for close quarter combat, made with the design concept to exceed and defeat a million Gunpla, the main builder Souji poured everything he had into making this unit. Turn-XCEED being based on the Turn-X, it still retains the ability to split and have the individual parts be maneuvered around, as well as the I-field and it's regeneration ability. It also can transform into a butterfly like Mobile Armor by switching it’s arms and legs.

Armaments

XCEED Absorber:
The butterfly shaped X on its chest is an upgraded Power Absorber using Sei's absorb system, which allows it to absorb beams and convert beams into energy when they disperse against the I-field.

Twin Fusion Crushers:
Gauntlets attached to both arms of the Gunpla. These are slimed down versions of the Fusion and Manipulator redesigned to resemble the God Gundam's finger protectors. They can be used like the original manipulator allowing them to fire beams, create a beam saber and use the "Shining Finger." The only part that was removed was the Grappling wire, which has been replaced with the ability to generate a beam cloth for use in grappling.

Mega Particle Cannons:
Like the Turn-X the Turn-XCEED is equipped with Mega Particle Cannons throughout its body, it can use it's I-field to curve the beams for a more focused barrage. The Ones equipped on it's Leg and feet can link up to form a beam blade between them for kicking attacks.

Gigant Cannons:
More powerful Particle Cannons equipped in the back of the legs, they can also create a very powerful beam saber for a kick strike.

Variable Beam Vulcans:
Beam Guns Equipped to the head at the V fin, giving the head some offensive capabilities. It is able to change between vulcans for soft targets and a focused beam for hard targets.

“Tengoku and Chikyu Butterfly” Blades:
A pair of Liberta Swords which can either coat themselves in Moonlight Butterfly Nanomachines or Ionized energy to disable opponents. It also uses technology from the Turns to overcome the weaknesses of the Shinguru blade technology, it uses Nanomachines to quickly reset the edge and an I-field movement system to deal with the weight and allows it to be used as bits. They can be attached to each other handle to handle, which compresses and increases the power of the Moonlight Butterfly cladding.

“Luna and Sol” Butterfly Revolvers:
A pair of revolver style handguns with Shinguru blades down the handles, the handguns have three firing settings, a bullet made from compressed Nano Skin, a blast of nanomachines, or an Ionized blast for disabling, all of which are accelerated using I-fields. The Shinguru blades also use Turn technology to overcome their weaknesses, while it can’t clad itself, this allows it to be used as bits and move around. The weapons can be combined together to create a bow like weapon.

Abdomen Weapon Platform:
Made of three parts all on smaller arms attached to the waist of the Turn-XCEED the central part contains another I field generator and can be used as a shield, while the left and right parts have more standardised Fusion and Manipulators for combat, wires included. These parts also have section to hold Luna and Sol and Tengoku and Chikyu

Moonlight Butterfly:
Uses Nanomachines to create butterfly-like wings that can break down man made materials into sand.

If he was the big guy, it would be ironic since I see Jun as the shortest guy on the team in my head.

And though he is smart in some aspects, he's mostly the reckless hothead who bets on himself.

You don't have to literally be big to be the big guy, it's purely metaphorical. Toph was the Big Guy in Avatar, and she was physically the smallest in the group.

I attributed The Hero to Naoki namely due to him being the one to form the team and admittedly making an assumption that he'll be the default Captain later on.

Still don't really know what Riku is. Too tough to be a pure Smart Guy, too smart to be the Big Guy. And I think you're right that Kai and Jun suit The Lancer, especially to each other. That doesn't leave Riku with very much, and I sure as hell wouldn't call him The Hero, that's for sure.
