Rita simply stared in disbelief, her eyes as wide as saucers, ears drooping her once threateningly raised hammer falling to the ground, as the toad launched itself into the air and from her perspective seemed to expanded to twice its original size.

”I didn’t think this through”

She whimpers with an air of finality just before a bolt of lightning appears out of nowhere, slamming into her impending doom and knocking it of course. Bizarrely the bolt appeared to have been a human all along as a fancily dressed young lady plummeted into the water along with her target.

She shook off her surprise in an instant, gripping her hammer in two hands and charging recklessly towards the beast, leaping an impressive distance into the air and clobbering the toad on the noggin with an flying overhead strike with her hammer. After landing onto of the beast she raised her hammer again in preparation to deliver a thorough beating, but briefly paused and called to the human.

”Thanks for saving my skin lady”

It was at this point she noticed that her savior had not resurfaced and in the place she had landed there was only a stream of bubbles. It was probably a really bad thing to let someone who saved your life die so Rita, after quickly holstering her hammer, jumped off of the dazed creature and into the water again. Wither her small but disproportionately powerful limbs she swam down into the depths after the bubbles, hoping to catch a glimpse of the woman so she cold help her resurface.
@Grijs

Your very welcome for that.

but really, this looks pretty damned cool. I like how you've made a faction that want's to destroy the world actually make sense for the ones seeking it rather than it just being a "demons told me to do it" situation. keeping an eye on this for sure to see if it gets of the ground.

In one of the few currently occupied pads in the spaceport sat the Rapid Evening, several tones of metal that were somehow space worthy. Within this ship, in a room originally intended to be a common room for a human crew, was the beating heart of the Apis tribe who called the ship home. Appropriately for a tiny race like them that beat was lightning fast, to ears of equipment capable of hearing it the room thrummed with the rabid endless chatter of the Apis, a wall of sound that pulsed rhythmically at a dizzying pace. The room itself had been converted from its original purpose to something that looked like a senate room, rows upon rows of tiny seats set in a circular pattern around a central space. That space was occupied by the controls of the ship's communication array.

The array was something that would have looked more at home on a military intelligence ship than on a cargo ship, capable of punching through almost any interference and handling an excessive volume of communications. To become separated from the collective was akin to death to the Apis and so to ensure constant communication each one was equipped with a small communicator just above their wings, where it picked up signals from their wings and allowed them to be transmitted beyond the naturally auditory range. All those signals came here, to the heart, and every Apis could hear what was discussed within. From the Liandry pilots currently being paid to construct additional housing, to the small swarm out hunting for supplies, to the diplomatic party who had effectively lived in the Col-Ad since the nomad fleet shut down, to the 4 Apis squads watching each of the other landing pads so they could get a close look at the Scythian’s arrival, they all listened instinctively to the heart as it schemed and pondered as to how to take advantage of the current situation. To ensure the survival of the tribe and the prosperity of the species.

Their primary interest at the moment was the nomad fleet above. It was a treasure trove, an entirely intact nomad ship would have been a prize in and of itself, but an entire fleet? The things that could be learned from dismantling the ships or the possibility of reactivating one of them under their control where tantalizing prospects.

However to get there they needed permission from the colony administration to go there without the risk of taking fire from the planetary defenses. However with the general chaos that had come with the destruction of the primary planet in the system had left the small moon based colony reeling and they were understandably busy with the resulting humanitarian crises to deal with the Apis’s requests for salvage rights of the fleet. The security personnel themselves were seeming deliberately unhelpful, Chief Nero had been adamant in her refusal to even discuss the prospect of letting them leave when they went to her. As a result there was little they could do legally without waiting for the situation to calm down.

It had not gone beyond their attention that the UWG vessel had arrived in the system, a secondary advantage of such a sophisticated array was its ability to detect and attempt to parse non Apis signals like the ones that had gone between the arriving ship and the control tower. There was hope that it would alleviate the current crisis somewhat if supplies had been brought, and let proper discussion about what to do about the nomad fleet to begin. If supplies had not been brought then the Eclipse were currently in the process of drafting a proposal based on the fact that the Nomad used slaves, and those slaves needed food and, depending on the malevolent machine’s pragmatism, medicine. Things the colony was desperately in need of.

Once it was discovered where the ship was landing a swarm was organised and sent out with the Crab lifter and a Liandry to assist with any unloading that might need, mainly to ensure that the eclipse were considered when it came to rationing of those supplies. The large mechanized vehicle clanked its way across the distance to the landing pad with surprising speed, the large 4 armed mecha Knuckle-walking along beside it and a small swarm of Apis hovering above. They joined up with the observation crew, who hovered over and settled down on top of the crab with their tiny binoculars, and then the whole lot of them awkwardly joined the crowd of humans also waiting to see what the ship had brought.
I'll let someone else move us along seeing as I feel like Althea has been dragging Tzi and Leon around after her all the time. Even if that isn't actually what was happening.

After a short while Althea stepped back inside holding a cloth soaked in ice cold water. She handed Viola the the damp and very cold cloth and told her to “hold this to your bruise, ze cold should reduce the swelling”

Her hands now free she channeled red magic through Canus Manus for a few moments in order to create a bottle with a candy red fluid inside that smelled slightly of cherries. This was also handed over to the wounded lass and the gauntlet returned to it's bangle state.

“after about ten minutes with the cloth you should drink this, it should expedite ze natural healing process and you’ll be right as rain in a few hours”

She had missed the girls explanation of what had happened to her and the company, she would need to ask someone about that later. Either the medical staff or her squad-mates.

“Sorry that took so long, I had to find the well and then haul some water out of it.”

She noted that Esther had been given a coat during her absence, which considering how chilly it was outside it was probably for the best she put it on. She was only a little bias in not thinking Tzi should also be wearing more.

“And thank you for helping Esther dress herself, though she really has to learn to do it on her own at some point”

She joked in a teasing tone at the the scantily clad noble girl's expense.

Woof.

I'll try to have a post today to introduce @Skepic's character and continue the story. At must tomorrow, depending on inspiration issues.

Althea will roll back in after that then.
What is the weather like outside? I should probably have asked before sending Althea out there.

While the confrontation had been ongoing she checked over all of the troops and was preparing to operate on some of the worst when the confrontation cooled. It was very fortunate that the sergeant backed down, she really didn’t want to have to do riot control with all these wounded people around.

She accepted the soldiers apology, a little flustered by the full grown man’s apologetic bowing and somewhat uncomfortable with his subsequent shoulder grabbing.

“It’s fine. really. My apologies for asking you to go against your orders, I get a little single minded when it comes to medical emergencies and sometimes forget about protocol.”

She was sure he was a good man but with the memory of Sargent's despicable words and the grappling with the woman on the mountain earlier still fresh in her mind she was not entirely comfortable with a stranger's contact at the moment. Fortunately he soon hurried off after the others.

After that there was the matter of her squadmates and the Aquarian girl’s facial injury. It seemed like everyone that had been in their quarters had stepped out here and they had been joined by Crispin from wherever he had been. Most notable was Esther who was wearing something incredibly inappropriate for wandering about in. Her skin crawled at the thought of the fact that the sergeant had seen her in it.

“Rude is an understatement, I’d call it incredibly creepy and vile. Anyway. I’m Althea Clemmons.”

There was a brief pause while she stroked the beak of her mask in the same manner a philosopher might stroke their beard in contemplation, as she thought about what to do for the hurt Aquarian .

“Ah, I know.”

She snapped her fingers, now covered in her silver gauntlet, and turned towards the door to the outside

“I’ll be right back with something for your face”

She said as she stepped out into the cold, momentarily leaving the group.
For the time being I'm just leaving this as a note, and trying to gauge your interest in a new fixed/more closer to a Vancian magic system.

You mean making our existing abilities require prior prep time I assume? I am interested in the forcing of making creative use of a limited number of spells. However, that might end up in a situation where Althea's magic acts exactly like she is just carrying a bunch of bottles around with her, though bandoleers of alchemy bottles could look pretty cool. Basically it might mean I need to rework what Althea can make but overall I am on-bored with that idea.
