Maybe I'll play Cyberpunk 2077 some more. My brother maxed out my character a year and a half ago. Haven't seen him since. Miss him.

”Mr. Dawson, why don't you have a seat?” He said, gesturing to the brown leather chair he had his hand resting on.

The men behind Adel stepped forward. They each placed a firm hand around his upper arms, half-guiding, half-dragging Adel to the seat. If Adel struggled in any way, their plan would have been quickly subduing him with a blow to the cheek - but besides tensing up, the man didn’t fight.

They shoved Adel into the seat, twisting it so it faced the mirror. Vincent still had that smirk on his face as he picked up a bowl of shaving cream and an applicator brush on the counter.

Slowly, methodically, Vincent applied shaving cream to Adel's face while speaking.

”Now, my men tell me that you and your spies have decided to make it your home in White Pine. Not that I care too much about that.”

He set down the bowl, picking out a barber's blade instead. He opened it, the fresh gleam of a clean, sharp blade within.

“What I really care about, though, is who set you up to do this.”

The blade pressed against Adel's neck as Vincent leaned over, staring at the man through the mirror.

”So, what'll it be, Canary? You gonna sing?”

Nocturnal Memoirs (2024)

"A million times I have done this charade. The moment people figure it out, I get the boot." she thought.

"But don't you want to see the fear in their eyes when they see who you really are...? Don't you want dominion of this place, just like how you were unchallenged in Vaal Kastrix?" said the Voice.

Ciara scoffed, immediately thinking of Gulliver and Valen. "I'd love to wipe the smirk off their faces."

"It starts by building a rumor. A rumor of power. This could be the place to start."

She took a deep breath, narrowing her eyes resolutely at the Undermage. "Head Advisor, with all due respect, you have no right to ask me about my intentions. If you want answers..."

She stood from her seat, rising to her full height.

"You'll have to duel me for them."

Awesome, okayyy. :>
Indeed, perhaps as important as taking medicine, or eating apples.

I'm joking, Click. :>

Anyways, I'll aim to have a post up for the Athius scene today or tomorrow.

Speaking of which, any progress on the Rhinecliff Treasury scene, @ERode and @Psyker Landshark? :>
@Estylwen Did Click ever do this?

That would be a no. Which means one thing, and one thing only.

//Proceeds to yell
This is why Ciara usually barely talks. xD

Wingram Clinic
@Nanaya, @Psyker Landshark

It was imperceivable.

A drunken shiver ran down Ciara's spine, though she couldn’t will herself to be afraid.

Blame the opioids.

She could only ‘stare’ in horror, feeling a peculiar essence wrap around her. A familiar, yet unfathomable essence. A presence she had become dependent upon, whether she realized it or not.

"Through mortal will, you survived the knight, the mage and the dark. Lives ended from your whims, and you gave them no thought.”
The Presence

Ciara, though finding trouble to think, acted on impulse with her speech, naked truth clinging to each slurred, mumbled word. “I just… wanted to survive.”

An auditory hallucination - she could hear the snap of bone, feel the sickening give under the pressure of her tentacles. She was too strong - had she really killed them?

…Did it really matter? She would have killed them if it meant she could survive.

“Davil Wund himself was merely a bargaining piece, was he not? You care not for the boy, but for the moralistic satisfaction it brings upon you to save another to rid yourself of the guilt of killing innocents.”
The Presence

“He's weak… Maybe if I saved him, they would...” Ciara mumbled, before her eyes glazed a little more, and she trailed off.

In actual fact, she continued to speak in her mind, continued to think. However, her thoughts were uncoordinated. Somehow, Davil's blood resurfaced when she thought of a fateful day at the orphanage. The kids had caught her and tried to burn her, calling her a witch.

She had… blacked out. But when she came to, kids were passed out around her, some staring at her in fear, clutching their chests in pain, other fleeing entirely.

Davil was her way of atoning for her sins, again and again. And it worked. In her head, everything was balanced. The good outweighed the bad. No matter how many times she heard the screams of guards repeat in her ears…

Her thoughts unraveled. “Maybe… my own weakness disgusts me. I can't fight beyond my shadow, stuck in this cage…”

A long pause, Ciara's eyes blindly looking from left to right. Before her mumblings were low, yearning. “I just want to drink it…”

She fell silent, listless again. The words rattled around in her mind. “The light. Embrace the darkness. Follow it wherever it goes, and sate my gnawing Hunger… It's lonely, agonizing… I just want to eat.”

“You are exactly the machine I saw, the steel I sharpened, the rock I carved. You have done well. If any would attempt to end this journey for the duration of your recovery, rest assured, Ciara Ventura…

"I̷̮͗͝ ̸͔͍̯͗̆͆̊W̶͉͛͑̚I̴̛̩̐̿̂͆L̷͔̞̾͆̒̈́̇L̵̟̓͒̂͌͠ ̷̢͔̦͎̔Ķ̵̜̲̱̮́I̷̛̗̝͚͗̏̃̉Ļ̵͈̝̱̼̂̀L̷͇̑̉ ̶̢͓̲̻͔̂͋͒͠Ţ̷̥̪̟̺̒̽Ĥ̷̹̞̩̇͋͗Ë̵͖̥̞͇̗M̶̯͋̒̃ ̴̣̘̻̟͆̎̽͊M̵̹̝̓̆͋͐͠Y̴̺̥̿S̷̛͓͔̥͒́͠Ḛ̴̡̘̙̼̄̏L̵̛͜F̸̨͙͎̼́̉̒.̶̡̟͚̽"
The Presence

Ciara moaned quietly, limply and numbly shifting in her bed, head lolling from side to side. It was like she had a fever, and she was desperately trying to escape it. Her lips parted, her breath shallow, sweat glistening on her brow.

In a vivid, fever dream-like state, Ciara found herself in her home. Before her Ethos had awakened, she was in the warm, loving embrace of her parents. It was safe, it was freeing-

It was exactly how this presence of darkness felt. Like a parent. Like safety. Like the ultimate form of authority, tightly woven with a sense of love.

Ciara continued to unconsciously twitch, limbs pinned, gasping as the presence's words caused her ears to ring and wail. She cried out in a whisper, her voice raspy and wanting.

“Father…! Mother…!”

Like a child crying out for their parents.

As the presence faded, a sense of longing took hold of Ciara, before it was lost to the euphoria, and she settled quietly on her bed, breath returning to a slow rhythm. Euphoria churned her guts as bells rang in her head somewhere in the stratosphere.

So, it took a long, long time before Ciara’s eyes managed to focus on Iraleth, standing at the edge of the curtain. Her gaze immediately softened, appearing to take physical joy in seeing Iraleth.

“The light… is here…”

A few more low breaths, before her head lolled to the side again, blinking rapidly as she groaned softly. She was struggling to remain aware, serotonin and dopamine pinging off senselessly in her mind, causing her to feel in and out of body.

“Don't… kill me… I'm sorry about eating you… I was just hungry…”

A child's lie, a child's excuse. Even drugged, Ciara struggled to be honest about her desperation to win, to use any means necessary…
The recipient could not be found.

Literally sent chills. :o
Quick adjustment heads up: the scene at the Grandbank involving 'Asteria', Mene, and Duchess Agustria will sbe taking place a few days before the scene at Athius. :>

Quill St. Sebastien's Office
Mentions: Varnan (@Blizz) Interactions: Quill (@PatientBean)

"So Ms. Adel, you say you have a problem and it involves this Varnan Ingram? Why don't you tell me what's going on and what you need from me."
Quill

Lorenza graciously took a seat, ensuring the door was closed behind her. Her parasol remained firmly low over her, hiding her face from Quill. From the sound of her voice, though, she gave the picture of ease.

“I realize you're busy, Miss Sebastien, so I won't take up too much of your time.”

One knee crossed over the other as she settled in her seat. In the briefest of moments, wisps of Blue Lux wafted over Quill, hitting an invisible barrier before disappearing entirely. Lorenza appeared to nod to herself.

“Ah, good. So I can be frank with you, after all.”

She was, of course, referring to the Emotional-Field Quill possessed, indicating what Lorenza suspected - the Fixer indeed was an Adept.

A soft sigh.“I'll start from the beginning. I… own certain areas in town. Recently, some savages, monsters, if you will, have begun disrupting my work. I need to know exactly who, where they came from, and why they're in the city now, competing with me. And, I would need you to fix my problem… As in, getting them out of the city, one way or another.”

There was a slight twist in Lorenza's grip as she softly spun the parasol, glass beads swishing gently.

“I know of a man who… well, as far as my sources are aware, prides himself on being aware of threats in the city. That's Mr. Ingram. I believe he would be the best lead for you to get a start on fixing my problem.”

A pause, before Lorenza leaned forward ever so slightly. “I would request… after you've spoken with him, of course - that you would allow me to accompany you in your investigation. I have a strong desire to… well, understand why they're coming into the city. I would be lying if I said I didn't want to, perhaps… talk with them.”

A hand shuffled around in a purse, before she procured an envelope, offering it to Quill. If Quill were to look inside, she would find $10,000 in crisp bills. The sound of a smile was once again colouring Lorenza's voice.

“A small deposit, so you are aware of my earnestness. We can discuss the remainder of your service fee, as well as any questions you may have for me. As long as you can go along with my stipulation - accompanying you later in the investigation - then I would be very much pleased.

“Of course, I would humbly request that you consider taking on my case, Miss Sebastien. It would mean the world to me, you see…”

@PatientBean Ahhh yes, it's true. Can always DM me here though. :)
