Well I stopped circling the drain and actually made the character I'd been vagueing about.

She goes by Sake in her circle, or SaKay, both pronounced the same way.

Personality:

It would be easy to assume that Sara is lazy given that on an average day she might stay in one place for hours on end but what some call laziness, Sara instead calls 'hyperfocus'. While it's certainly true that Sara spends a fair amount of time pursuing her...interests, what is less frequently seen is the efficiency Sara shows on non-hobby tasks. The reason Sara can afford to laze about is because when she does have tasks that could be called 'work' she completes them with a frenzied pace that it almost seems inhuman. It's the 'hyperfocus' Sara is so fond of spouting. This side of Sara is, unfortunately, rarely shown leading everyone who knows her to think she's just a lazy shut-in. 

Sara is rather fond of drinking (which is the origin of her nickname, that and because it flows with her name) and while normally Sara is able to keep her proclivities in check when she drinks enough to feel the effects (given that she's a lightweight it doesn't take much) her 'true nature' spills forth like an uncorked drain. Because many have considered her hobbies strange (and by association seen Sara as strange), she doesn't really open up to anyone and keeps herself at more than an arm's length, unable or unwilling to let them in. Sara doesn't exactly have friends. She has people that she sometimes talks with and hangs out with (typically just for business purposes or fests) but she doesn't consider them as friends out of a fear that they'd find her strange. 

That she's gotten drunk around them and they still talk with her is information Sara is unaware of. Though in her defense she never quite remembers the nights when she drinks. 

Sara doesn't live her life with schedules or plans though she has fallen into a bit of a routine much to her chagrin. She has little choice but to chalk it up to maturing and entering the adult world. She's managed so far, thanks to hyperfocus and a staunch refusal to give up what few hobbies she can muster. 

Honestly at this point an unplanned interruption in the form of an unexpected house mate might be the shake-up Sara needs. At least for a week or so before it's back to being 'Lazy SaKay'

The hobby is that she's a masochist

Occupation:

Layout Editor and Contributing Artist to a monthly publication. 
She doesn't get paid but she's also a member of an art circle that specializes in special art works. The circle has a regular booth at conventions yearly.

History:

Sara never really had any ambitions as a child, no goals to work towards. That was always the territory of her younger brother, who always said he was going to be an athlete and actually is on his way to being a professional baseball player. Sara was hardly the ideal older sibling or eldest child, spending most of her youth staying indoors while the neighborhood kids played outdoor games. Inside was where all the things she enjoyed were. 

The lazy lifestyle carried through her education with her grades skating on the 'good enough' spectrum (though her marks in history and literature were consistently top of the class). She only became a layout designer because it was one of the few jobs in her field that she could commute to easily (or submit things from home). Sara's entire life has been reactive rather than proactive. 

Even her getting her own place was predicated on her parents really not enjoying having their daughter spend her days nursing beer and using their credit cards for websites with unusual names. Names they dare not repeat. Saving money from her job was the hardest thing she did, as she did so have a habit of spending a paycheck on non-essentials but it was worth it in the end. Now no one has anything to say when the credit card bill comes in the mail. 

Sara never had any intention of signing up for the Cultural Exchange but when spending a lot of time on the internet, typing in personal and payment information to various forms, eventually a name gets put on a list.
