Well for starters I would've had the world be more reactive to your progress through it. So much of the game feels limp because major events that should realistically impact the world kind of don't. The Civil War aspect is terrible because it's basically another guild quest chain like the Thieves Guild or something. The inconsequential dialog is far too static and based solely on which tree you have the most shit in rather than, say, the fact that you're kind of a big deal. More diverse quests would have also been welcome. When the game was in development a great deal was said about the dynamic, radiant quests but in actuality it's just an endless series of fetch quests that get foldered into the miscellaneous tab or else it's diving into another prefab cave to kill like six bandits. 

The strong part of Skyrim, which is the strong part of any given Bethesda game, is the big dumb world. Bethesda knows how to make a world that rewards exploration (the quality of the world is debatable but ehhh) but they utterly fail at giving a reason to stick with it long term. The various guild quests are poor because you do like five things and suddenly you're the hotshit leader after an hour. It's so wrapped up in being a power fantasy that it ultimately makes the power fantasy part less interesting because, again, the world is so god damn static. 

The questlines WERE dull, particularly the side quests. I can't speak to the main quests because every time I play Skyrim I wind up installing mods for like five hours then I start a game and get bored right around the time you fight the first dragon and I'm done after like an hour and a half. But side quests boiled down to talk to person A, go to place, kill x or find y or kill x AND find y then report back to person A for a leveled reward. In a game that takes pride in letting you "do what you want" the things you wind up doing are remarkably similar. 

How would I have made Skyrim better?

By making it a good game.

Name: Mackenzie Maya Lin

Age/Birthday: August 13. She's 18 as far as anyone's concerned. 

Clique: Noted Troubled Students

List of Family: Kenzi has an older sister, Kim, that she once (and still kind of does) idolize. Kim was once a student at Shermer High which only made Kenzi come into the school with a reputation left by her sister. Though Kenzi once looked up to Kim, the two of them rarely see each other as Kim has pretty much left the family behind in pursuit of her own highs. Kim left a reputation that Kenzi is already poised to topple and supplant it with her own. 

Kenzi's mother, Amber, is a single parent who, after seeing what she perceives as failures with Kim, started a more controlled and demanding lifestyle for Kenzi. It's not terribly surprising that a mother exerting more control over her daughter had the opposite effect. Kenzi never knew her father and it's because Amber, in her youth, was rather promiscuous - stating that that's just how it was "in the industry." Amber had Kim with a record producer back when Amber was trying to become famous but Kenzi's father remains unknown. That hasn't helped matters either. Amber just wants Kenzi not to make the same mistakes; that's fine, Kenzi is making her own.

Reason for being in detention: Technically ever since the 'Talent Show Incident' Kenzi has had detention for months. Though this specific Saturday was a combination of vandalism and a vulgar telling off of a teacher.

Personality: There she goes to the principal's office again. What did she do this time? There's a reputation Kenzi has and like most reputations it's hardly a good one. Whenever there's an incident at school that has no culprit, most turn to Kenzi as the scapegoat. Sometimes for good reason, but most of the time because she's an easy target for it. There's a noted lack of respect for authority due to her reportedly telling multiple teachers to fuck themselves with a colorful term for human genitalia and being caught twice tagging a wall. Rumors surround Kenzi like flies around...well you know the expression. While it's certainly true that her mouth has no filter, no one seems to stop and consider the sheer amount of issues they attribute to Kenzi. If she truly did half of the things she was blamed for she'd most likely be expelled or even in jail at the moment. But of course that doesn't concern those who are quick to point fingers. Kenzi is the perfect target because of well known incidents in the past and her seeming desire to live up to the reputation she already had.

Many assume she'll drop out before graduation. Others have a bet going on whether or not she'll be arrested. And still there are those who wonder how the hell she managed to become the top soloist in the choir. The apple doesn't fall far from the tree, and plenty of staffers who have supported these rumors still remember the last time a Lin wandered the halls.

While it's true that Kenzi has a bit of a vulgar mouth, the reality of the matter is that Kenzi is a confused person. She has two very different forces in her life and is slowly realizing that she can't make them both happy and doesn't quite know what to do. Standing at the crossroad of life that is maturity was never supposed to be this difficult. Kenzi isn't sure that she's ever made a decision for her own sake and her run-ins with authority were her way of doing something that she wanted to do. Despite the claims that she'll be a dropout, Kenzi maintains a high B/near A-average, a fact that she keeps to herself. It's not that she's unhappy, it's just that school is about the only place she can actually be true to herself, even if that puts her at odds with others because of her attitude.

While she isn't going to mouth off to teachers unless provoked, Kenzi still gets into trouble over seemingly nothing; again because of her reputation and that of the Other Lin as well as her uncertain nature, Kenzi accepts the punishments even when she didn't do the crime. Because that's what's expected of a Lin. The Lin Legacy, in other words. Slowly but surely she's starting to learn that in the end it's her life, not anyone else's. She can be her own person. She can do what her heart desires.

Kenzi isn't sure that she even has friends, just people that take advantage of her reputation to remain under the radar and blameless. In all honesty, she's a deeply lonely person who still wants to find her voice. 

Brief Background: Kenzi arrived at Shermer High with a target on her back from day one. There was a legacy in place thanks to Kim Lin's antics. Ever since her Freshman year Kenzi has felt like no one really gave her a fair chance. Teachers, when doing attendance, would see her name and ask "Oh, are you related to Kim?" and instantly their demeanor would change when Kenzi was around. By all accounts Kenzi had intended to simply quietly endure the four year prison sentence that was high school, but it was Shermer that created Kenzi Lin. Kenzi figured that since she was already in the shadow of giants that why not embrace what everyone expected? That's how she had lived her life so far, just doing what she was told, what was expected of her. 

Her infractions started in the back half of her Freshman year but it wasn't until her sophomore year that Kenzi Lin became infamous. Vandalism, profanity, truancy, causing fights in the cafeteria, the talent show incident, and those are just the things that Kenzi could be directly linked to. Whenever there is an infraction, Kenzi is typically the first suspect (also often the only one) and it's not all that unreasonable to see why. The only aspect of high school that Kenzi seems to mellow out for is the school choir. She didn't join by choice, having been forced into it by both her mother and the guidance counselor who assumed an extracurricular might help channel some of the aggression into more positive pursuits. Her junior year saw her earning a soloist spot for choral recitals, which baffled her fellow choir members as well as those who heard. Fortunately her reputation remained in tact after denying her enjoyment of the choir and suggesting she was forced to do it and that quitting would get her expelled. Though she'll deny it for as long as possible, the choir and her place in it does make her happy. 

Because of the choir rumors on top of her multiple rule violations, Kenzi is known as the Siren of Shermer because of her vocal ability in the choir and because of a little joke 'if there's a Siren at Shermer, Kenzi's in the backseat'.

Appearance: 

]There's nothing immediately eye-catching about Kenzi's height or general appearance; her features tend to speak for themselves what with her pale complexion and blemish-free face. Some have said that Kenzi's eyes are quite striking, but she believes it's just because they are wide and rather expressive. Someone once told her that it was odd to see her dark green eyes but that same person was being kind of racist at the time and Kenzi didn't really know any better. She's just always had expressive, forest-green eyes; over the years she's managed to bring attention to them with the proper application of makeup. She goes for emphasis, though heavy makeup is so not her style. 

In fact her style is a bit more...naturalistic in tone. Or, in truth, a bit more 'urban' though she loathes to use such a generic term herself. No one can deny that she has a distinct and certainly striking sense of style that gravitates towards the 'wear a big shirt so it looks like you don't have pants' end of things. Typically Kenzi is found adhering to no real sense of fashion while still coming off as stylish, to a certain degree. Thrift store casual is a style, surely. Kenzie hates when people are married to their outfits which is why she is so uncaring about her own clothing. The only time she dresses in a presentable, formal manner is when she's singing with the choir...and even then only because it's 'mandatory'. On colder days, Kenzi will don a hooded jacket while still sticking to her 'pants that are technically shorts but christ and large shirt' dress. It's not as if her legs are particularly worthy of being shown off in such a manner, she just feels like the look suits her. If not her personality. 

Kenzi's hair is of frequent medium length and often chestnut in color. It's her natural hair color as well, which always draws suspicious glances. She's not particularly fussed about her hair, it's just sort of there, and most of the time it's covered by various hats and headwear anyway. She keeps her bangs straight and the style of cut to a bob, thus ensuring that her plain featured face is on full display for the adoring population. It's appropriate, however, given that her face is so expressive. 

Her height and weight are, much like the rest of her, are average. Five foot two and slender with no real curves to speak of; she had been describe as having a 'boyish' build to her. She's still not sure what that means. Kenzi doesn't flaunt it not because she thinks she don't got it, but because she hates when people think they can use their looks to excuse a lack of personality.
