Current 10+ years of an RP idea, finally finished, on 10.10.2025. Goodnight Raven Squad, you were the best, wildest, most silly near future SOF RP that lived on the guild, and you got a worthy send off :)

Bio

I've RP'd for the best part of over 15 years now here on the Guild, and particularly like military settings, both contemporary, past and near future. I have even dabbled in a little more experimental RPs, as well as created a plethora of 1x1s over my time in the guild. I like creating RPs with a distinct flavour- and often shift between narrative-led RPs to semi-randomised plots. I've been more a GM lately than a player, and don't really lean into fandom- instead, exploring my own universes lifting themes from other source material.

My main interests are military-themed, near-future RPs, with a focus on technology. But I'm beginning to push what that RP idea looks like- taking inspiration from lots of media and focussing on the fun, indulgent side of RP, whilst also exploring the lows and emotional side.

Raven Squad is a project over seven years in the making, and focusses on a class-based, eccentric yet half-grounded near future special forces team that acts as a response team where you can't send any special forces team in. It's incredibly dumb, incredibly loose, and yet, has delivered some of my favourite plot points in RPG. A brainless action flick a la John Wick and Kingsman meets a complex thriller with a fun left turn in it, Raven has been the culmination of over a decade of loving special forces RPG, gaming influences and other silliness in a package that has provided players with something quite different to a normal military themed RPG. While at an end, this is an RP that is a signature- it's silly as hell, takes itself barely seriously, and is what peak fun military RPG to me should be.

Delta Hyper is a love letter to Wipeout, F1's Drive to Survive (Netflix) and contemporary Formula One, with influences from solarpunk, cyberpunk, transhumanism and other posthumanist concepts. An RP that follows pilots in their ups and downs, it's a story that hasn't got me playing an actual character, but framing the camera at each pilot (played by others), and presenting it as if it were a documentary. Lifting elements from TTRPG, this is a Racing RPG like no other and no parallel exists- using dice rolls and randomisation, with a stats-driven system to generate race results, rather than actually RPing the races, players experience the fast-paced, dynamic world of anti-gravity racing. This means that come Qualifying and Race, the results are genuinely a surprise to everyone- and based on decisions made through dilemmas and decisions made between races. Friendships, rivalry, the glamour and even a little political undertone play out in 2094, in a colourful, utopian future that focuses on the fight to take first place.

Then there's Tactical Breach Wizards: Fireteam Hex. First use of any set IP as a formal setting, this is an RP that offers a darker mirror to Raven Squad, focussing on the other side of the equation- unlikely heroes in an uncomfortable position. I don't normally do fantasy, but the world, the lore, the feeling of the characters and the ability to write a comedy just was too difficult to pass up. An RP that focuses on a group running away from a variety of threats as wanted mercenary wizards in the middle of a post-revolution, Eastern-Europe adjacent 1990s to present Polavia.

roleplayerguild.com/topics/197399-dis…

Lastly, Dispatch: Heroes of Claremont. This is another IP-adjacent world, albeit drawing on a different setting and a new cast of superheroes. As my "first" proper superhero RP, this combines workplace comedy, a Storyteller-lite system and a fun, diverse, and large cast together in a dynamic, diverse setting.

I'm pretty flexible and try and get back to people on ideas and responses, but sometimes, I may become very busy and it will take some time till I am un-busy. I aim to clear posts within a week!

Precisely that. It's a perfect place to be a greedy bastard (or not).

@JDolan

Yup, I'd say that all the characters in this RP are the people who have seen the writing on the wall before it's even happened, they've seen it coming for a long time and Allied, Axis, know the world's going to change. Some just want to make money out of it, while others want to push that downfall along.

Overall very happy to see this is well received!

Do people want me to make an OOC now so you can begin making characters? I've got a lot more in the way of plot that I can spell out into the OOC, on how your agents may find out about this plan, amongst other things.
@DepressedSoviet@JDolan@gathering gloom

Sweet! A couple more names and I'll make an OOC potentially. I'm up for any ideas people may have also (I've thought that there might even just be German intelligence operatives on board who are actually just in for the cash, trying to get out of Germany with money before it all burns- might be a theme I'll also play along now you mention the Abwehr).
Sweet. Any other takers?
"No doubt!" Seb yelled over the noise of the roaring muscle, the Mustang yelling as he held on in his seat, letting her drive, and focus on the driving. The Austrian was reserved in that sense, he didn't speak when he didn't have to, it was a very Germanic thing to do, and he knew that she was in command, weaving and ducking and bobbing through traffic. One thing was for certain, and that was that they were gonna get there hella quick.

Ross chuckled, listening to Ellie. It really was like the good old times again, as he slowed down, dropping the gear as the rotary whined, sighing almost.
"Yeah. I don't know where it went I suppose. Maybe it would have worked out the other way around....but fate has a weird way of working. Me as a petrolhead, you as a shredder and wingsuiter. Crazy." He smirked, as he looked on, dropping another gear as he made a tighter corner, onto another of LA's straight, straight roads, right towards the lot now.
"And the fact you make money out of it....it sounds amazing. Then there's me here, doing this. Racing cars, doing some dodgy shit. It doesn't make sense." He added, the brightly coloured RX7 barking into life a little more as the throttle was pushed, the rotary engine replying fully to it's input.

"We're almost here."

-------------

Ross pulled in, the pumping music lighting up the atmosphere, as he got out of the car after finding an appropriate spot. He got a few looks, mostly because driving a green-yellow RX7 that had a particular whine and a low down appearance was going to do that. And he expected nothing less, as he pulled up opposite Kimberly, smiling across at Ellie.
"Welcome to car culture. Because we're also energy drink chugging lunatics who listen to a lot of Trap." With it, he leaned across, pecking Ellie on the cheek, grinning with a distinctive smirk that was completely shit eating.
"We aren't so different again I guess." With it, Ross clambered out of the car, knowing if Kimberly saw, she'd be pissed, but finding Ellie was funny again, and he was getting used to it...again. He had no intent of letting Ellie join in, he was committed to Kimberly, he knew that much, it was more of a token friendly gesture, but he just prayed that she'd be fine with it. Otherwise, super awkward.

Walking out, Ross saw Kimberly talking to old friends, Seb also in tow.
"Looks like she didn't kill you. Women drivers." Ross said across to the Austrian. With it, Seb chuckled, knowing full well that Ross was snuggling up to Kimberly as he said so, only asking for a slap.

(RIGHT, LET'S DO THIS.)

"Do it." Martin simply said, as he looked on at Bugcatcher, or Drevan working away on narrowing the IP, watching as it bounded off.
"Bastard. Looks like it's Iranian in origin. Mil spec. This isn't an enthusiast." Martin's words were icy cold, as he implied exactly what he wanted to in what he said.
"Liberty, you're going to need to standby."

The operator flew the drone in close, the quadcopter flying towards the building, as he picked out the floor. Flying the drone closer, he flipped a switch on a USB-connected device attached to the tablet, gently pushing one button in. Flinging the drone forwards, it tilted over, flying towards the glass, before he pushed the dial back.

------

With the explosion, Thom tracked two more running out, as he dropped them with the SMG, moving in, cutting off their escape route.
"Cavalier, Bugcatcher, this is Kingmaker. Sit rep?" Thom heard, as he moved in, looking across at George, shaking his head.
"Bloody hell mate. Don't have a fucking broken arm now." Cavalier said, chuckling as he offered him a hand, aware that the area is clear.

"We're clear. Got the data, all hostiles neutralised. What's the call?"
"We need you elsewhere. Round to the London Docklands. How fast do you think you can be there?" Thom looked only at George.
"Ten minutes, or less boss."
"Then move on it. GPS co-ords will be sent encrypted to you. I need two on the ground there now, and we can't compromise our operation."
"Affirmative." Thom said, looking to George.
"You better be a good driver."

-------------

The drone blew itself apart, the payload of about 20kg of explosives ripping through the floor below Liberty, detonating the office space and filling some of the men inside with a lot of glass and shrapnel, as the explosion rippled through the building. Only looking on from Liberty's cam as well as the view that Drevan was trying to compile, Martin shook his head.
"Bollocks....Liberty, you are gonna need to fucking hoof it. Don't ask what the hell that was. But someone else really doesn't like these people. And those people happened to be in the same time, same place." Martin said over the comms, looking at Drevan, before her at her cam again.
"You're weapons free. Lifts are gonna be locked down...Drevan can hack them and put you into heat, or you'll need to go back the way you came and reuse the rig. Your call. Or whatever he can conjure up.."
Okay, so long time since I've set up an RP, but the premise is simple. Lots of Nazis, lots of gold, lots of backstabbing and very few fucks left to give.

Think Raid meets Kelly's Heroes meets Inglorious Bastards meets The Dirty Dozen, with a distinct bastardry attached to it.... This is an RP that sets itself in the backdrop of the Second World War, and will play in that time period throughout, and if it goes on long enough, even beyond. The key premise is that your character isn't just driven by fighting for a cause, or wanting to save the world from oppression.

It's all about stealing loads of fucking money while doing it.

Your character is an intelligence operative, hired by SOE, OSS, the NKVD, even the SS or Axis inteligence services, of the double agent variety, or deep undercover within Axis territory. Of course, there is more to this than meets the eye- they have a unique set of skills, be it weapons, coercion and cunning, fear tactics, they are definitely not orthodox. They range from femme fatales, to vicious Nazi-hunting psychopaths, to suave and charasmatic characters. Or all three. Your character is certainly someone who does have one thing on their mind. There is a lot of money that is being dealt with. And that is for the stealing, for personal gain...or not?

Even if they don't, they know this is the best way to sabotage the Germans when put into the situation here. Even if they're German themselves, they may be seeing this as a form of resistance, and get involved. There's some morality there- choosing to be involved with the personal stakes, or not.

-----------------------------

This RP is going to probably not dwell massively on historical events albeit set within them (note- this means it'll probably mean we don't change the course of the war itself, but exist as characters who may influence the way the tide ends up going), and is a portmanteau of classic WW2 heisty films and some more modern takes. It's going to be morally questionable, and I'm not going to glaze over the fact that if you're allergic to people getting shot in the fucking head, you shouldn't be here. There's gonna be controversial material here, given the nature of any RP that involves Nazis, gold, and people involved in that.

---------

The RP is starts in December 1943, and starts in the foothills of the Alps in Bavaria, at a very lovely beerhall. Your character has been called about, or heard about a British double-agent, Robert Fitzroy. He has put out the feelers indirectly and found a group of individuals (you) who are interested in an intelligence operation. Some have been sent directly from the Allies. Others are already in theatre. Either way, Fitzroy has you there.

Fitzroy works for the British SOE, but is also in the services of the German SD as a double-agent, with neither actually sure anymore of who he is loyal to, given how deep he is in...though the Allies mostly assume it's them. He provides such good intel on both sides- though in his heart, he's still loyal to King and Country. His assistant and contact to the Allies as well as a general fixer, Valerie Mercier- a former Swiss gendarme- really is a wildcard compared to him. Unpredictable yet calculating, and if Fitzroy has no clear loyalty, it almost seems impossible to tell if Mercier just wants to watch the world burn, or profit from the chaos.

With a bet that the Allies are going to win the war, and the Germans beginning to make a mess of things, stealing seems to come up prominently as a way of hitting the German war economy, and that is Fitzroy's plan. Keeping a little also seems to fit the bill.

The plan at first is simple. Steal a train carrying about half a ton of Nazi gold, using firearms, replaced signalling and a small group of loyal agents, divert it to Switzerland by any means needed, take the gold onto trucks, and hit the German war machine where it hurts- it's money. And well, take some for themselves, wait till the war ends, and profit. Of course, Fitzroy knows he can't do that alone. He's smart enough to get the right people on board, and serves King and Country cleverly.

Or so he thinks. Because he doesn't know how deep the rabbit hole is about to go, and that no robbery goes easy. The gold is only the start of an adventure that sees a lot of plundering, good ol' Nazi killing, and a deep plot that tests the characters and their loyalties, to morality, money and country.

-------------------------------------------------------------

So yeah, any takers?
