Little Ulster

A lot of things have changed in the last few weeks. A lot of things that I probably could’ve a hand in helping with if it wasn’t for the fact there was some ‘complicated magical fluxes’ that led to me being stuck and chased in another dimension for that time. A time where it was really ambiguous if I was even going to survive considering Merlin himself was a little predisposed as this enemy I was facing? Well, he turned Merlin into a statue, and boy was I scared. I mean, it’s hard not to be when the most powerful wizard in all of history is rendered powerless in an instant. But I found this stick called The Staff of Sidhe and that changed the game considering it being a powerful conduit for arcane energy— especially so considering it was native to the dimension I was being hunted in. A game-changer, really.

Spider-Man never had to deal with this kind of crap during his formative years! I think comic books have lied to me.

Right.

So that was my last few weeks, though it looks like I’m not the only one who has faced change in this city. Little Ulster has had a complete change of appearance and I’m kind of appalled. The tax and rent prices are going to go through the roof! This is going to be terrible financially! On the flip-side, I can probably be confident in saying that crime is on the DL and maybe it’s a price worth paying if people are safer. Then again I have a feeling crime is only going to get snobbier and smarter in the guise of the change. That doesn’t bother me, I’m confident in fighting mundane criminals after being chased down by a wizard several centuries old in a different dimension where I had barely a chance of surviving.

Being chased by arcane death is a good way to build confidence for people with knives and guns.

I’ve spent the last few days making up my missed work at college and digging through the internet for information of what has happened in the mundane world as Merlin continues my training and filling me in about stuff regarding the arcane world. I think he’s glad to be his squish old human self again, then again I can’t imagine how it feels like being a living statue; seeing things unfold yet unable to feel or do anything… I don’t know if it sounds like misery or just a very boring lifestyle. Then again given what else Merlin has told me since I started learning under him I have the feeling that there are far worse outcomes. Like anything involving the Lovecraftian Dimension.

No thank you.

That’s what I say to that dimension.

I’m worried though— Merlin was “troubled” yesterday and I could see the look on his face before he even told me of that fact. Maybe I’m getting more deductive or it was just so blatantly obvious. I don’t know. Merlin said the incident with Malefar served as a precedent to other issues involving the dimensional leylines and perhaps his wards growing weaker. The ‘demonic invasion’ we missed due to Malefar was also something Merlin brings up, saying with the way he had channeled the leylines should’ve been completely impossible. He’s worried that someone has broken his wards and trying to have the dimensional barriers bleed into our realm. All I know about these concerns is that is very very bad.

Who would dare try to control or manipulate the leylines and the barriers Merlin put for everyone’s protection?

It’s a precedent that makes me nervous.

Before I worry about it more though I should get this coursework finished.
That's what I like to hear. You are both easy to work with so I have no doubt that you can make it work.

But for the record, you did know I was trying to figure something out (I know 365 days is a long time for that, but cmon!) and Merlin lore is pre-established by Marcus existing in the first page of the game! Regardless of my kind of slight disappointment of not being told this was a thing until someone posted "Morgana" in the game, I will be talking to VAT throughout the next few days to see if it doesn't complete retcon a lot of lore I worked very hard into putting together and putting in motion including the fact that Morgana's physical body is locked away by Merlin.

If you wonder about my absence, I do want to say I never confirmed I was done with the game. But after the Demon Invasion and Ulster Rebuild and other stuff I missed I was having a hard time explaining Marcus' not involvement which I did vocalize to you in the chat at some point. I think you can remember that much and we did talk at length back when we had a chatroom about what I was doing. I know it's been a ridiculously long time though and I'm not furious (I'd have no right to be) but a good few nudges could've been useful as would've some help getting back into the game.

Anyway! Back in, regardless of my butthurt melodrama!
<Snipped quote by Gowi>

To be fair, you haven't been active in this game for over a year, so we didn't really think you'd be back. And I have no issue with you both using Merlin as an NPC, a character like him wouldn't necessarily have just 1 piece on the chess board.

To make a quick counterpoint, Nite, I have been trying to figure out how to get back in the game for that year.

My point is le Fay was a big point to how I setup the arcane leylines, Marcus' major story arc, his biggest antagonist, and his love interest's conflict.

This really does put a cog (if Morgana has debuted in the game, which I actually don't see HUGE evidence of as I'm re-reading the IC and there's only this one thing that is really vague) in a lot of what I've been working on in-between real life responsibilities and my other games.

BUT I HAVE IDEAS ON HOW TO MAKE IT WORK!
By the way, I started talks with Gowi. Since Merlin will be important to both of us. Also @GowiMorgana Le Fey has made an appearance and she knows someone wields Excalibur and isn't happy about it. I'll PM you details about relevant information after work today and some general ideas for future plots.

Considering Le Fey was completely integral to my FIRST ARC, that would've nice to know and with the way I had it setup would of been completely improbable. Good to know. Partially my fault for going inactive, but damn.

Now I have to completely rewrite my first major arc.

Kind of feel like someone should've thrown me a PM about that since as Merlin as a major NPC it kind of falls in my court, semi-active or not?
THE MAGE

Character
Marcus Richard Huxley, Jr.

Alias
The Mage

Alignment
Good

Identity
Secret

Personality
Marcus Huxley is inspired in part by characters that follow the "awkward nerd" trope and as such is a mess: he's awkward, extremely nervous, easily excitable, a little bit naive, and leaps without thinking. Adding that in, Marcus wants to do the mystical stuff and doesn't see it as a huge weight on his shoulders as he never has had a character to tout responsibility over him. Marcus is a good kid at heart with more power than he realizes he should be comprehending.

Uniform/Costume
A simple hoodie with gloves at the moment.

Origin
Marcus Huxley grew up in Brooksdale, one of Grant City's many suburban midtowns in the metropolitan area. Growing up in the sprawling suburban area had a definite effect on him and he was teased or ignored by his peers depending on their gender. Marcus has been called a geek and loser for the majority of his life and his interest in urban mysteries has always sort of alienated him from others. When high school was over Marcus immediately set his sights on college, quickly quitting his steady job at the local movie theater to set his sights on the big city. With his grades set, Marcus found himself accepted into a Community College and found a second dilemma in his freshmen year: he needed a steady job. After several weeks of looking he came across an antiques shop not too far from the college he went to and decided that it would be a good place to start looking; though Marcus’ gut feeling of wanting to check out the store had been apparent before due to his taste in urban mysteries and the knacks people always seem to forget about.

This is where he began to work for an old welsh man who eventually revealed to him that he had been chosen—chosen as his apprentice. Marcus panicked but ultimately after witnessing the old man’s vigor and power realized he had either gone crazy or all of the tales and legends had been true after all of this time. Confiding in Merlin he ecstatically obeys this apprenticeship and honestly he felt like he could really use the money from working at the store as well. So the birth of Merlin’s Apprentice became so and over the next year he studied without application, until he found himself becoming inspired by crime-fighters. The debut of “The Mage” was as tacky as a name as it was; Michelle Kinney of the Grant City Informant had begun to report on the appearances of the superhero. In this time however, everything seemed to go downhill as his own nameless nemesis watched from the shadows as Marcus' relationship with Roxie begins to grow...

Character Type
Mystic

Power Level
City Level - though he'll be doing Street Level stuff for the majority of the beginning.

Powers
Marcus Huxley by all accounts should be a normal kid studying the geopolitics of sixteenth century Europe, but unfortunately he’s been gifted with knowledge of the arcane stream. Unbeknownst to Marcus he is one of several people in the world with a connection to the stream, a natural connection and it is important for him to take on the responsibilities of the realm of magic. Marcus can create arcane bolts and fields, levitate, absorb and redirect other energy, and even teleport. All of which takes massive focus and strain so he's not going to be nightcrawler or anything.

Marcus is by all standings a pretty low level mage and street level hero that could become a lot more given happenstance of his life and how it is changing. His power is varied and scattered over hundreds of applications of the arcane stream and he doesn’t quite understand it.

Weaknesses
As a mystic with a small degree of training Marcus isn't exactly Merlin-- he cannot bend magic very well and thus most of his physical defenses is very human. With that said the majority of Marcus' weaknesses comes through his personality: his nervousness, awkwardness, and pure anxiety from a situation bring a lot of mental misses and with magic that's a big no-no.

Supporting Cast
Merlin – the wizard of time and space himself; he’s the mentor of the character and the lead on to everything Marcus Huxley will be.
Roxanne “Roxie” Llywelyn – Right now Roxie is Marcus Huxley’s friend and potential love interest, but there’s a lot more to Roxie than Marcus realizes.
Michelle Kinney – A tenacious and adamant reporter for the local newspaper who intends to get ahead of her male peers as a reporter who gets the truth.
David Richards – Marcus’ best friend and his roommate.
Thinking about rejoining. Someone in charge PM me.

What I need to know:

Major Events (again)
How much time has passed in the IC
And I've been saving all posts in google docs and my personal files.

CS review probably tonight!

In the case Guildfall happens, send me an email at gowienczyk@hotmail.com or gowimachine@gmail.com and I will transfer us to another site.
Possibly.

@Gowi How are you doing on a next post? Need anyone to pull your character into some event?

I would imagine I'll be unconscious in the slave chambers for a bit. When and if like Fallen or whoever wants to do something off that... they should skype me.

The Triskelion (10:00 PM / 2200 MT)

"We should do this again sometime."

Tony Stark took the hand of Captain America easily. Despite them not really reaching a definite winner he had to admit it was the most fun he had in months. “I’ll still win.” Tony taunted with a wide smirk as the two heroes shook hands as Maria Hill tapped her foot in an irritated huff.

“Are we done?”

Tony nodded, “For now. By the way, Hill, we ended up figuring out the whole location decryption thing. You guys want to be looking at Austanburg, in case you don’t already know.”

“Good.” She looked at Barnes, “Don’t waste any more of my time.”

Tony Stark chuckled as he withdrew his suit back into the briefcase he carried it in before taking a long extended yawn. “Well, I’m beat. Toodles.”
