The world sure had changed a lot since she was a kid.
Men in suits clamoring on about accountability and safety wasn’t new, no, but Carol Danvers felt the toxicity that the Kelly Act endorsed was. She hadn’t lived during World War II or the 1960’s but… this was what it had been like, wasn’t it? Except they weren’t rounding up asians or segregating blacks this time; this time they were nearly on the point of doing it to people who just happened to be born with one little metagene mutation.
A heavy sigh left her lips as she looked down on the scene below.
Coast City, though you my as well called it “Ferris Aircraft City” with how much the aerospace company had dominated the commercial sector in the last decade. But the scene wasn’t about them. There was a riot beginning to unfold below and the Justice League had been sent to deal with it. Which was strange… because nothing had happened
yet. Did Luthor have some inside information here? It was weird. None of the people below flying the flag of the Brotherhood of Mutants were on any of the dossiers she had read when she was working full-time as a SHIELD agent. They were unknowns with nobody identifiable among the bunch.
Two gunshots.
“
Here we go.” Carol muttered under her breath.
Carol reminded herself that the enemy down there inflicted terror and were not the voice of the people she felt sympathy for. These were people who followed the zeal of Magneto and answered with vicious violence. If they were not dealt with swiftly they would endanger the safety of innocent civilians. She shook her head: attacking a public event like this was senseless and had no statement other than reinforcing the government’s belief on the mutant issue. It was
dumb. She imagined Magneto would scoff at this motley crew of mutants chanting “brotherhood”. Then again, Magneto was a
psychopath that believed he was some kind of mutant Malcom X, so maybe he’d think this was absolutely necessary.
Whatever the case, she was done gawking.
She moved her hand up to her ear, listening to the communication line as she spoke through before she dove towards the violence below.
“
In position, let's get this show on the road.”
