Yeah, I've dealt with many of those types. Luckily my current DM kicked out the individual who was prone to make characters like that from the group.

Chaotic Neutral players, or at least bad ones are the bane of every party. They are out for themselves, sure, but those individuals can have lean towards good or evil as well as make friendships. Not every one of them has to be thieves or assassins as well.
