I'll delegate on the two CS's in the morning (yes it is almost 4AM but you know what I mean).
It's a sad state of affairs when most of the cast is male.
8:4 for pilots isn't a bad ratio; and if you count Ana and Vera that makes it 8:6.

Interesting question. If a player is willing you could play a character from a current house. Short of that you could always make a character and/or a minor house within another of the current kingdoms.
Don't we have a major house space open in the north?
Another idea: the GM could elect a post/player character to talk about, giving some kind of community discussion and awareness.
