The death of Margaret emptied both Grant and his father of emotion, with neither one making any attempt at addressing their issues. Time healed the wounds, though thankfully the two grew much closer. Things changed, however, when Augustus met Maribel Santos. A recently divorced woman without a penny to her name, she successfully seduced Grant's father and took over the house. Gone was Margaret's touch, the mansion filled with flashiness and losing much of its old charm. Maribel certainly took the wealth and name in stride, using Augustus' connections to make Reia a successful model. She tried to do the same with Grant and his music, but the two clashed numerous times. Maribel would've been content to leave Grant be, but Augustus insists on the two having a relationship.

"Maribel married my father for the name and money. She even went so far to change her daughter's name because 'Reia Roselia sounds so much better!' even though it's not even hers. She's a gold digging cunt. And that's all I have to say about it."

Reia was raised like the princess she deserved to be--so when her father lost an important case and lost all his money, it was quite the shock for her and her mother. The financial issues drove her parents apart, and before she could comprehend the situation, her mother was dragging her out of the house, ignoring her cries for her father. Maribel forbade Jose Luis from seeing his daughter in an act of petty vengeance and made sure to fill Reia's schedule so she could never see him. The woman beat Reia into becoming a graceful, elegant young woman, pushing her to get into modeling. Then, Maribel met Augustus, a rich widower with a son, and managed to get a giant rock on her finger. Using his connections, she made Reia a star and gave her a stage name to fit the 'graceful swan' that had appeared on the billboards, though all she did was give her the Roselia name. Eventually it became legal despite Reia's wishes, though she managed at least to keep both her last names on her license and legal documents.

School was difficult as a result of Maribel's schemes. Reia developed thick skin and managed to turn the other cheek to most--until a senior last year by the name of Leilani Cierran decided to bring out Reia's family situation for all to see. It ended up showing up in the senior slideshow--little surprise as Leilani was the head of Senior Planning--and Reia's history and her mother's gold-digging became public. The humiliation seemed to instigate a change within Reia, and for the first time in her life, the demon within emerged. Taking advantage of her good looks, she knew exactly how to get her revenge.

Enlisting the help of notorious playboy Dante Sterling-Mossos, she proposed a 'fun little game' knowing Dante never backed down from a challenge. Their goal would be to break up King Academy's Perfect Couple, though it was a race to see who got who first: Dante getting Leilani, or Reia getting Tristan first. Truthfully, she didn't care who won, as her plans would succeed either way. She then brought her attention on Tristan Thompson, charming him until she convinced him to cheat on Leilani with her. Staging it so that Leilani would catch them in the act, the feeling of watching Leilani's color drain from her face was something Reia enjoyed immensely, the ensuing fallout of King Academy's 'perfect couple' being torn apart scattering like wildfire over the school. Apparently, Dante had also been successful in his seduction, so that was a pleasant bonus. But Reia felt that that wasn't sufficient. So she decided to put incriminating evidence in Leilani's locker and had the administration think she had stolen the test answers to the final exams (which indeed had been stolen, but by someone entirely unrelated). This event had multiple schools pull their scholarships. As Leilani was now romantically and educationally ruined, Reia decided to put the cherry on top of her vengeance cake by making a well placed call to Leilani's house from Planned Parenthood, knowing full well of her extremely conservative parents.

Despite knowing Reia was responsible for everything, the girl never could get any evidence of it. More importantly, Reia's revenge had sent out a message to all the alumni of King's Academy: Don't fuck with Reia Roselia Santos.

The Ashford family is one of the lesser known families on Palm Beach, leaving a majority of the family in peace and letting them fly under the radar. Their value comes from their supplier chain, often giving materials to build many of the houses and buildings that exist in Palm Beach, even today. The first child to a loving pair of parents, Wade's life was relatively simple, even if he was, as his mother puts it, 'quite the shock'. Despite being an only child, he never felt lonely, even enjoying his solitude as he listened to people complain about their siblings.
The desire for luxury never applied to him, preferring to go and play in the dirt rather than play sports. From a young age, he loved riding bikes, which turned into dirt bikes and motorcycles, and he developed a talent for riding. As he grew up, his initial teen years were uncomfortable: physically, his face was marred with severe acne and several jaw issues resulted in more metal in his teeth than in a band. At the same time, his mother's health issues became apparent, causing him stress. His uncle has been fliterring around them, the concern of the Galin fortune up in the air. Puberty, however, became gracious, slamming him with the beauty hammer over the summer. So from nerd to hunk, he will begin the new year with a new start.

Except, now everyone's staring at him. Now what?

The what and the who now?

Slowly blinking, Lakshmi did her damnest to pay attention. The man matched the name well, though she was temporarily distracted by the way he moved. Lord Cormack was fascinating, an air about him that without saying a word made his adventures and experience known. The way he carried himself was admirable, although something seemed just a bit off. Observing his movements for a moment, he reminded her of one of her recent patients. Was he afflicted as well? It was likely, though it would be rude to comment on it, so she tried to pay no mind to it and instead pay attention more to his words.

Or at least, she tried, but much of it flew over her head. It wasn't the unfamiliarity so much as genuinely having absolutely no idea what he spoke of. Maybe she should have done her homework on Cormack, but it was too late for that. The rest of the room seemed attentive, and she tried to keep up. What seemed to alarm her was that apparently the group had experience in these treks. Shoot, the most exciting expenditure she had ever gone through had to do with fact more than myth (hard to make climbing a mountain more mystical than it really was), and for a moment she was highly unsure. Now that she stopped to think about it, she suddenly felt very out of place.

Lakshmi figured she should say something. Questions were more than likely to be welcomed, right? Except Lord Cormack also mentioned teamwork. So if she did say something, she was likely to make a bad first impression. Well, she was sure she would be fine with Lucian--the two have been acquainted for some time already--but everyone else was...Hm, she was overthinking this. Maybe. Probably. Or not? Teetering on indecision much longer than she would have liked, her lips were parted slightly, and eventually she ended up deciding that yes, she should speak.

Too bad she didn't know what she was going to say. "Find--find what where?" The words had slipped out before she could stop herself. "The Congo is massive, isn't it? And we are to find something people only think exist?"

It's all hush hush that Aurora doesn't live with her parents, her older brother Apollo having gained legal guardianship when he was eighteen. Apollo himself has proved himself worthy of his parents' inheritance, having some very well placed investments of which he and his sister have been living off of. As he has gained access to one of his trust funds, he has spun his money into more money, assuring that the siblings remain in the comfort they're used to. The pair live in the Avana Isles' Penthouse. Of course, the mystery as to where their parents are or why they live on their own is kept under tight wraps. Apollo is constantly busy and is nearly always somewhere, coming home only to sleep before embarking to his next appointment. Aurora herself flat out refuses to talk about the topic, often ending the conversation right then and there.
