"The only thing more unpredictable than life is people."

Hotaru vaguely remembered her father muttering that phrase to himself once upon a time. If she recalled correctly, he had gotten into an argument with the neighbor; they had decided to claim one of his tools as their own, and when he put up a fight, things escalated into a shouting match. Eventually, he conceded, but not until making it clear that there was no longer a camaraderie between the two. She had thought it was awfully silly to get into an argument over a wrench of all things, but it had also been unexpected. Until that point, their neighbor was someone reliable and respected, and there was no reason to think a tool would be what would ultimately crack the friendship. And thus came the saying, her father advising her to be wary of people.

That said, the unpredictability of the lord's son was definitely something Hotaru had underestimated.

Having to hold in her initial shock when she had laid eyes on her former master's son was more difficult than keeping her calm in general. Her head was buzzing with questions, the primary "why?" being at the forefront. She hadn't expected to see anyone who she recognized, much less him. And of course, he was doing what he always did: standing up for people. But he didn't belong here, he had a life ready for him! It was actually frustrating her the more she thought about it, and watching the instructor speak to him was more painful than she considered.

Of course, outwardly she couldn't bring herself to worry or to let her expression show she cared at all. Her plan was to keep her head low, get through training, and hopefully come out on top so she could choose to be in the Military Police. Then she could live out her life in peace and with the freedom she wanted. Easier said than done, of course, and she had no idea what her prowess would end up being, but it was worth a shot. Having some sort of goal was better than being aimless, anyway.

Why would Eris fuck with Wells' livelihood? He hadn't done something to piss him off yet. Honestly, it was like the kid didn't even know him. Eris openly rolled his eyes as the thought crossed his mind, albeit he let it go once Wells actually agreed with his idea. Fuck yeah, Eris one, stupid exam zero. Now, all they had to do was solve the constellation and they'd be home free. Maybe if they succeeded, he could keep his sight! They may as well let him keep seeing as a reward, otherwise what was even the point?

Of course, Eris didn't quite appreciate the shade. Even if Wells didn't care, knowing the exact shades helped when it came to picking out outfits, the last thing he needed was to get dragged by the red carpet paparazzi because he chose to wear maroon instead of blood red like some kind of--okay, he was getting off track. But they were going to revisit that topic whether the kid wanted to or not.

"Alright, fine, but we're revisiting the intricacy of the color wheel and their many shades down the line and you'll get what I mean," Eris couldn't help himself, faking the sound of clearing his throat loudly so Wells wouldn't stop to make some kind of smartass comment. "We'll start with the same one as before, then go to the upper right. After that, I'll call it as we go along," He said, flexing his fingers as he held his hand out.

"Three, two, one--go."

A little miffed that @Scribe of Thoth doesn't appreciate the difference between blonde and daffodil, like seriously, these things MATTER.
Just a kiss

Well, Yasuhide was definitely the first to make the comparison without making some kind of pun, so that much Asuka appreciated. That said, once the word 'doctor' left his mouth, Asuka had to hold back a groan of indigence. Why must the universe insist on steering her in a direction she so utterly despised? Clearing her throat, she offered a polite laugh to his words, pursing her lips as her fingers drummed her knees.

Fortunately, she was saved from having to give a response as the Dean commanded silence from the entire room. It was kinda impressive, but she had to admit that feeling dwindled the more the speech went on. Weren't these things supposed to be more awe-inspiring? Maybe he was trying to wheedle out the cowards, but Asuka didn't exactly feel intimidated by it. Survival of the fittest was probably what he was trying to get at, but that also didn't really seem very heroic. Oh well, she wasn't in a position of authority so she didn't care. All she wanted to do was graduate, get popular, and rake in the adoration she deserved.

Once the speech ended, everyone moved around them--other students who already knew where to go, the difference between them and the newcomers obvious at everyone who stayed in place. Asuka suppressed her sigh, her right hand tossing her hair over her shoulder as she flashed a smile at Yasuhide. "Well, that was enlightening," She joked, pausing as she noticed an odd tension in his expression. What, he could pelt someone and laugh it off but get intimidated by a speech from an old guy trying way too hard to spook the freshman? She waited a few seconds for a response, finding none. Maybe he was lost in thought.

Asuka placed her hand on his shoulder as she tried to get his attention. "Yasuhide-san? Is everything okay?" She asked him gently.

Eris' touch didn't seem to do anything much to his confusion. Damn, he really thought they were onto something. He frowned to himself, squinting down to see if anything happened over on Wells' end. He did notice the light pulsing, trying to think of what it could mean. He was pretty sure it reacted because they did it together, so the syncing up wasn't the problem. The problem was that what they did wasn't enough. Not that he thought just one action would solve the puzzle, but he expected something more. Anything obvious, some sort of sign or clue or...

"Wait a minute..." He muttered, his eyebrows shooting up. "I think I saw something happen when you touched them, right?" The gears in his head were turning as he spoke, something clicking in his head as he shook his hands. "The stars' constellations--I think we have to trace the whole constellation out, the lines lit up between them. We just have to stay coordinated and light the entire thing up."

That just had to be it. And to think there was the possibility that he almost doubted himself earlier. Except that possibility was fact and he wasn't entirely sure he was onto something. He was so sure before but without properly testing it, he was still a little shaky on his theory. But going off his gut produced some kind of result, so it couldn't be completely off base, right?

"We could just try it and see what happens. Maybe," Eris eyed the light getting closer, a little leery.

Keeping calm with @Scribe of Thoth.
Interested!

They did say be wary of the quiet ones--Asuka never would have guessed Yasuhide was the type. It was actually a neat demonstration, even if she had to cover her mouth to suppress her laugh. Once she read the whiteboard, she seemed to understand what it was that she saw. It reminded her a little of playing with magnets, but the range and size were much different than anything she had ever seen. He seemed to have a good handle on the Quirk, too, though now that she thought about it, he seemed awfully prepared. Oh well, at least he hadn't done it to her, so no harm, no foul.

"How naughty, those poor tourists," She teased, her expression making it clear that she had enjoyed the demonstration as handed his whiteboard back to him. Anything to successfully kill time was good in her book, and she'd be lying if she said she wouldn't mind trying something similar if she could get away with it. "But yes, very nifty! You look like you've had a lot of practice."

As she finished speaking, she caught Yasuhide's target looking around. Biting down on her lower lip, she pretended to be more interested with her hands, knowing that she'd probably lose it if he made eye contact. Luckily, he didn't go looking too hard, and it was at that point Asuka thought that she should return the favor.

"Now, to correct my mistake from before," She replied, taking out her compact. "If you'll give me your attention, I'll show you a magic trick." She joked, wiggling her fingers. Opening it with one half on her knee, she pressed down on the mirror until the hinge cracked, and after another push, it snapped right off. Showing him both halves, she then pressed them together, a strip of pink light covering the broken part and fading away to reveal what looked like a flower-covered band aid.

"And...!" She lifted her right hand, snapping her fingers, and the band-aid dissolved into a tiny flurry of what looked like flower petals before they faded away. "Ta-da!" She showed him the now-fixed compact, opening it up. "I actually don't use it on objects too much, but I'm hoping to improve my skills on that end. The band-aids use my regenerative ability and apply it to whatever they stick to, thus 'fixing' them. I've practiced a lot on healing with my sister at the hospital she works at." She cheerfully explained, feeling prideful.
