As much as I like SAO, I too didn't like how Kirito always (or nearly always) won. How he was the complete best at nearly everything. It just bugged me a little.
I actually completely understand why he was that way and agree with how they did it. If you want nitty-gritty details, read the light novel. But essentially, they couldn't make him be a hero that lost some battles, because he would die.
