Do you have a lot of families?

Madelin: Th-they rarely ever cause real trouble, and even when they do their parents usually give them a good talking to.
<Snipped quote by Host>
Madelin: Yea.
<Snipped quote by Host>
Madelin: M-mostly children, though they tend to do it in a more innocent manner then any adults, since they have yet to know why they don't have to worry about food, shelter, and safety.

Madelin: *Shakes her head as she goes back to work.*
N-no, to the community. A lot of the people living here do so because by working in some way for the town, they get shelter, food, and a sense of stability and security. I-I don't know how things worked before, but this place is built on trusting each other to do our jobs well.
<Snipped quote by Host>
Madelin: M-most everyone contributes in some way when on their work time.
<Snipped quote by Host>
Madelin: I-I believe it's whatever paper they have on hand, be it from trading or from what others have scavenged from the ruins, but I'm not sure about it.
<Snipped quote by Host>
Madelin: W-we compare it to our other records and occasionally discuss with the farmers what worked and what didn't while suggesting which plants could be put into the next cycle. A-after that we pass the boards over to the scribes quarter to be put to record before clearing them off for the next day.

Madelin: *Turns towards you and points to everything as I talk about it.*
W-well, you take the blocks from this basket and slide them into place. Each basket has the same amount of blocks, and every group of blocks in the basket has a word, number, or symbol etched onto its outer surface. B-by sliding the right blocks into place you can take measurements and record information. When you've finished with sliding everything into place, you take the right edge of the board and slide it down to close the rows and keep the blocks from falling out. I-if you want to clear the board, just slide it back up and put the blocks back into their proper places inside the basket.
<Snipped quote by Host>
Madelin: Th-these?
*Points to the board in hand with her free one.*
<Snipped quote by Host>
Madelin: W-we're growing as much grain as we can for now, since we can store it well enough to help us when the colder winter snow limits our options. If we can manage it though we try to fit in groups of herbs and vegetables into the cycles as well.
A-a large part of it is managed by the farmers of course, so once I figure out how to best nurture a plant I add it to the list of potential rotations, often with a bit of priority so that we have the chance to see how useful it is.
...
A-a lot of this was set up by my predecessors, though I doubt they had tools like this available to them.
*Motions to the board and sliding blocks in my hand.*
