Bio

Hey all, JB here.

I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).

I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!

I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!

Please feel free to say hi at any time!

@Mahz I really hate to keep complaining >.< Loving the updates.

Anyways, on Desktop (Google Chrome), if I have a friend whose name is long enough to take up two lines, it messes up the list on the main page like so:

Even the second friend whose name takes up two lines doesn't fix this issue. I'm not sure what causes it, but it only happens if a name is wrapped to the second line.

For reference and because mustaches, this is what mine looks like

@Mahz That certainly helps. I would propose moving ghosts to the end of the list, if that's simple. Having them at the top is counter to the ghosted person's intentions (draws attention a bit), and it doesn't help the user see who is online easily.

On mobile, the friends list is still really cluttered from the text. 0-12 hrs ago is forced onto 4 lines for me, as opposed to the normal 1-2 lines.

@Ellri The main reason I can think of is if someone is extremely privacy-conscious, or is attempting to avoid an uncomfortable situation. It's not a feature I feel the need to use, but for some people, it can be a major security blanket for them.

I feel like a grouping of the timestamp on Ghost mode people is almost mandatory in order to keep the intent of ghost mode. You could change it to within the last year, but if it still shows at the top of my list when they're online, it breaks the point.

Also, if someone is obsessive and constantly refreshes that page, they could see when an offline person moved to Ghost Mode if they had been offline more than 12 hrs. This would indicate they came online. I'm just trying to help stop harassment before it begins.

@Mahz Although I like the idea of the ghost mode changes, there are a couple things that feel broken with it.

Here is my friend activity list (/me/friendships). As you can see, it's pretty obvious nearly precisely when certain people were online. I propose that all 0-12 hr people have a referenced time stamp of 12 hrs ago on the friends' list.

Update: a couple of friends came online and that top Ghost mode still shows up at the top, indicating they are currently online, which defeats the purpose.

Not screencapped since privacy wouldn't let me show it easily without edits, and because it's tough to edit on phone: the main page friends list on mobile now looks extremely crowded. The 0-12 hrs ago and icon take up a lot of space. I propose changing the text to "Recent" with the ghost icon, maybe with an alt text saying something along the lines of "This user has been online sometime within the past 12 hrs."

Why not a checkbox next to the thread in /subscriptions? Check the box if you want notifications, etc. Clean and can be easily explained

@Mahz By on-site notifications, do you mean push to desktop notifications?

I think a push notification could be interesting, as would emails. I would suggest they be default to off, and options be accessible under the notifications tab as well as in user options. As for Discord, that feels like it could get more annoying than helpful, but some might like it.
As the others discussed magics and gear, Katia spent the better part of the ten-minute summoning ritual that Wick cast trying to pull bits of stick and sap from her fur. When that inevitably failed, she walked over to the lake where Cesar seemed to have been enjoying a quiet dip and used its water to wash away the worst of the mess as her friend disrobed. The water appeared nearly pristine, and Kat stepped into the lake, feeling its cooling sensation around her ankles. A quiet sigh of happiness enveloped her as she waded deeper in. Many tabaxi disliked water, but as long as she chose to enter a body of water herself, it could be as much a playground as a forest or field.

She lowered her head, dipping under the surface of the cool water, and attempted to force the sap out of her fur. This would normally take much longer than the time they had, but the most egregious spots would be washed out shortly, and Katia returned to the shore. She was soaked through, and her clothing hung heavily with the extra moisture, but both would dry out in time. For now, she felt refreshed and, although not perfectly clean, somewhat less sticky.

As she walked up beside Theodore, wringing water from her hair, she grinned in response to his praise. "It was pretty great, wasn't it?" she replied. Her comment was not haughty or self-serving, but simply reveling in the situation. "After that last hit, I was worried for Thea, but it looks like she's fine now. A hit like that, and I'd have been swimming with the fishes in a different way, for sure."

She peeked over at the map that Wick had created, spending a bit of time to get a feel for the area. "It doesn't look like we have much of a choice where to go from here," she announced. "The valley wants us to head that way. We could brave the mountains, but I feel like we'd just end up really cold and really uncomfortable. I've never seen mountain formations like this. It's almost as if the gods themselves reached down to pinch the earth into the sky. Perhaps we were meant to follow this valley. With any luck, we'll find some civilization before long. The area seems to be full of life, so starvation should not be an issue."

With the serious talks completed, she stretched her arms into the air, turning towards the sun and allowing its rays to warm her. "I think I just found a new favorite meditation spot," she added with a chuckle. "But something tells me that we shouldn't linger. Whatever we just fought, I dunno, maybe it's still after us, and we have no idea what kind of monsters roam these hills at night. If there aren't people, there's probably a reason for it." Katia adjusted her clothing slightly, ensuring it would stay in place before approaching Wick and wrapping her arms around the celestial. "Thanks for the map, beloved," she whispered as she backed away, leaving a very wet outline of herself on Wick's clothing. She then plopped down in the grass near the lake. The smarter folk could take the discussion from there. Katia would just be sunbathing in the meantime.

The goliath skidded forward as the traction beneath his feet was suddenly removed, but by sheer force of will alone, he managed to keep his feet. The goliath wore a layer of chainmail that looked like it had been battered through years of combat, and he carried a greataxe in his hands as he charged forward. Seeing that his prey was blocked off, the goliath reached behind his back to one of the several spears he carried and leveled it at Arietta. With a grin, he let it fly, but his feet were not firmly planted, and the spear fell harmlessly to the ground at Ary's feet. With a snarl, the goliath wasted time to get a stance. "Go on, take them down!" he shouted to his allies.
