Hey all, JB here.
I'm a DM for a large number of games here on RPG, as well as a player in several others. Many of the games I run are overly complex, or they involve Dungeons and Dragons (which is also overly complex!).
I work 40+ hours a week, and am the proud father of two tiny terrors named Chibi and Chibette and married to my beautiful Wifey. As such, I am quite busy more often than not. I typically write 2-5 paragraphs per reply and try to maintain an excellent level of grammar. If you noticed me glancing at your profile, I probably was looking to see if you would be a good match for my RPing style. Even if I didn't send a PM to you, feel free to send one back!
I enjoy 1x1 RPs and small groups. I'm fond of medieval, steampunk, and futuristic settings, and I'll jump into romance, adventure, and slice of life RPs fairly quickly, although supernatural (vampires, werewolves, etc) RPs get old for me pretty quickly. If you're looking for an RP partner and I've glanced at your profile, then I'm most likely willing to give it a shot, but decided against PMing you because I'm actually kinda shy. But I'm always looking for a new friend!
Please feel free to say hi at any time!

"Ah, fine. If it would make you happy, big boy, show me your guns." Jenneva smiled at the man in red, perhaps hiding some meaning behind her words. "And... Jane. That is certainly an interesting name. The last name seems... bromidic." She turned her attention to the lamia dancing with her hat. "It looks great on you. I wonder if it would look half as good on me."
”Teddy! Hold on!” Katia placed the Crow Orb into the pouch she kept slung over a shoulder and glared at the Really Big Crow. ”You’re going down, if it’s the last thing I do!” Katia focused her ki into radiant energy as she had done when they first entered this new world.
The attack struck true, the energy seemingly amplified by Wick’s magic. With one last croak, the raven’s wings ceased their movements and it imploded in a shudder of dark violent energy, condensing into a gem similar to the one now in Katia’s pack. Theodore, however, was unable to resist the seductive allure of gravity, and crashed down to the ground, the gem landing beside him. Katia watched in horror as he fell, looking almost ready to plunge off the tree herself, but knowing that it would do little more than get both of them hurt.
The other raven was too far away for her to take down easily. Perhaps a leap from the tree might get her close enough, but she’d be better off allowing it to flee. Instead, she stayed in the precipice of the tree’s branches, ready to prepare an attack should the beast return, and resting after her frenzied climb moments before.
Katia Lei
Katia’s first attack is a Radiant Sun bolt: 18 for 5 radiant damage, doubled to 10 damage due to Wick’s spell.
@Mahz My suggestion would do nothing more than insert a link to the post where the character sheet is held. The GM could assign such links as they see fit. Implementing anything further would likely take quite a bit of effort, but a system like this seems to me to be little more than inserting a couple of URLs (I'm not a website coder, so I could totally be wrong). As a really rough mockup:
"Oh, I love a good hat. And a good battle skirt." Jenneva stepped forward, shooting a wink at Junko. "I'll take one of those tea hats, big guy. In red, if you please. What's your name, anyways? Mine's Jenneva." She smiled as she approached the man, looking over his wares. "As for weapons, I'm afraid I don't have much use for them. My blades are all I need. Versatile too. They might not be as strong as a katana, but they do the trick."
The goliath roared as electricity coursed through him, and sparks raged in his eyes as he turned towards Lex. "You're going down! ...Er, again!" he called out, wildly swinging his axe. It missed Lex completely, carving a great gash in the road where it landed. "Stand still!" The axe fell again, this time deflected neatly off Lex's shield. Either blow looked like it would have held the power to send the paladin to whatever deity he believed in, but the goliath's attacks lacked discipline. Annoyed with his failure and the ice under foot, he strafed around the paladin, placing himself on the opposite side as the ratfolk.
As the kurjian that had fallen previously began to crawl towards safety, one of the shopkeepers took her walking staff and approached the ratfolk. "You leave them alone!" she called out, bringing the heavy wood down with a Crack! on the ratfolk's head as blood trickled down from the blow. It turned and snarled at the woman who immediately dropped the stick in fear as she realized she may have drawn unwanted attention.
Affected: @Turbowraith... sorta. No damage, but you are now flanked. Next: @Mistiel
The drakes continued to be utterly useless with one being entangled by Dyn's tentacles and the other drifting dazedly up and atop the ship's deck, but just outside of anyone's reach. As the staredown continued, it seemed as if the battle was at a temporary halt, neither side expending additional effort in attacking. At this point, true diplomacy could begin, if both sides seemed willing. The theullai continued its angry gaze at the mage who had him encapsulated, and the drakes and Nemmy eventually awoke from their stupor. What would happen next was anyone's guess.
>Battle Complete! Everyone gains 1412 XP. We should all have 65,412 / 85,000 XP. You are free to post outside initiative order.
With Nemiea muttering to herself in the crow's nest and the rest of us waiting with baited breath, the theullai glared at us. It turned its great wintry head towards Eliza and snarled, but there was little else it could do while trapped in her prison, and it knew as much.
"I know when I have been outsmarted," the theullai spoke up, anger sounding on its voice. The sound was airy and distant, even though the elemental wolf was mere feet from them. "But I have no reason to trust those the Sky Sea. Release me, and we shall see."
Jill turned to Eliza. "Do it. If he makes a foul move, we will all blast him. I believe he knows better than to attack us at this point." She pointed her gun towards the theullai and pulled back the hammer. "We are just defending ourselves," she called out. "Don't make us defend ourselves further."
I don't know if that use case is big enough to warrant redesigning a system though. That kind of functionality wouldn't hinder the old way of doing things.
I've been in RPs where nearly every post had multiple contributors. Most RPs I've been in end up having a handful of combo posts. I don't feel like this is a fringe case; having multiple characters linked to a post should not be much more coding work than having a single character linked. I don't feel that adding a profile pic for each character (and thus creating a pseudo-profile for them all) would be simple or worth filling the Guild's server space, but I could be wrong.
@Mahz - not sure how much thought you've put into this system, so if you have ideas that are better, please ignore me. One option I thought of would be to have the character indicator link to a CHAR tab post that is associated with that PC. An option for GUI side (pardon my lack of edits, I'm on phone):
Posted: 6 hrs ago -- PC: Mahzbot 3000, Mahzbot's Lover -- View Raw - Link
I think there should be plenty of room to put most names up in that section, even on edited posts. On the edit window, a dropdown menu on the lower left above the post button could work with the option to remove added PCs.
@Ellri and anyone else that might have an idea for this:
Alright, let's say I finish tweaking /me/subscriptions so that you can mute/unmute each thread.
That means that "Archived Subscriptions" are only for stuff you just want to bookmark so you aren't scrolling past them every time you refresh /me/subscriptions, and they are always muted.
An unmuted subscription will give you an on-site notification as they currently do.
But what about when I implement an (opt-in) email-notification system? It's one of the most requested features every time I ask for feedback in that feedback box on the homepage.
It's too noisy to send an email for every post in every unmuted subscription. It makes sense that people would only opt-in to email notifications for the subset of subscriptions they particularly don't want to miss.
So maybe next to each subscription on /me/subscriptions, you can choose one of these options:
What do yall think?
One thing I've seen done for emails is an option (set in your User Settings) for an email for EVERY item or an email that summarizes everything in a period of time (like per hour, per day, per week, etc).
