It is definitely helpful to write in third person. It helps us know what (male, female, or other) your character is.

Dru sighed. He wasn't looking forward to interacting with the others. He wasn't exactly a social person. Still it would be interesting to met gods and goddesses of other cultures. He had always been curious about other religions. He would enjoy learning about the others. He just wasn't sure if he could fit in. He took out his tablet and turned it on. He pulled up the map. He had taken a picture of it so he wouldn't have to worry about losing it.

It wasn't as big as the arena, which they would used big battles. But it was big enough to give them some moving room while protecting the others.
