Do the Shouts from the Amulet of Kings count as Spells?


When you say the Amulet gives you access to Shouts, do you mean that you have the still find the Shouts separately or do the Shouts come with the Amulet?

If its the latter then I think abilities granted by items don't counts as spells, i.e. they wouldn't need to go in the spellbook but would need to have cool downs or some other cost to be balanced.

If its the former then I'd say that Artefact probably needs some reworking. I don't like the idea of a set of spells only being accessible if you have a certain Artefact since the Shouts should already be Artefacts themselves and with the spellbook there is already a restriction on how many you can have at once. Honestly, being able to turn into an avatar of Akatosh is probably strong enough for a rare Artefact since it is at least equivalent if not stronger than the Ultraman Artefact from the book.

Maybe change the Amulet to just have an extremely long cool down instead of breaking and remove the part about needing it to use Shouts?

I mean, the player was seeing reports of the attacks and stuff in real life. Kinda hard to fake that. Though, realistically, I give the game mere hours before it becomes 90-95% deserted. Most people are going to be too preoccupied finding remote places to hole up and survive the apparent zombie outbreak to give a crap about logging into a game.


Sanctuary isn't just a game though. It's everything in this world.

Think about what it was like in Ready Player One; everyone was logged into the Oasis pretty much 24/7, they went to school there, they hung out there, they spent all their time there because the real world was shit and it had everything a person needed and it was free. I'm not saying that a zombie outbreak wouldn't change things but I wouldn't be surprised if people just locked their doors and then retreated back to the one place that's most familiar to them.

Add in the fact that the cure is supposedly inside Sanctuary and you'll have a lot of people who'll keep playing to try and find it.

If this were a tabletop game I would totally agree with you. But since it's not... well, I dunno.


I think what he means is that in this futuristic world video footage can be falsified with near photo realistic quality pretty easily. Until people see a zombie in real life they may just pass off the news reports as promotional material for the new event.

“I’m telling my parents either way. They already know about all this stuff so I’ve got nothing to hide; I’m not going to lie to them.”

Stepping up next Sora picked up one of the few remaining talismans and held it in front of him, not really looking at it at all as he thought over everything he had just heard. It seemed that the supernatural world was a lot larger than he knew; even knowing that everything he had seen all these years was real, he only ever thought about the supernatural in terms of the little lights he would see in the forest at night, or the dancing dragon he saw flying over a placid lake, or the old smoke spirit who had someone made its way to being part of his family tree.

But the supernatural world was larger and more dangerous than that. He knew that sometimes monsters attacked people, he’d read about demons and ogre and about trickster foxes and malevolent spirits. His parents had warned him not to wander too far into the forest and night and never to follow one of the lights no matter how enticing they looked. But 1 in 1000 was already a number far higher than anything he expected; 1 in 3 was terrifying to think about. Turning over the talisman Sora read the short blurb on the back.

Enenra are the personification of smoke, born from the fires lit by farmers to dispose of the remains of their harvest, they manifest as faces in the wisps of smoke that rise up into the air. Thought to have some relation to Lord Enma, the judge of the dead, it is believed that Enenra may actually be the spirits of the dead rising along with the smoke to the afterlife, or perhaps acting as guides for the departed.

It was nothing that he hadn’t heard before; you don’t just tell a child he is descended from a Yokai and not expect him to read everything he can about them. Sora also wasn’t sure if the accuracy of their psychic was a good or a bad thing for him. For now he supposed it meant whoever had made this talisman for him at least knew what they were doing.

Placing the paper on his chest Sora didn’t feel anything at first. No strange tingling, no rush of power, no burning pain in his souls. He didn’t feel anything. In fact, he couldn’t feel anything at all. It was like his body didn’t exist anymore, not quite numb but somehow senseless in a way that was hard to describe. Airy and insubstantial, like a sudden breeze would carry him away and he was surprised that he hadn’t already floated off. As suddenly as it had begun the feeling subsided and he could feel his body again, though it now felt somehow heavy and restrictive in its solid presence.

Letting out a deep sigh the air in front of Sora was quickly filled with a cloud of thin smoke, wispy tendrils floating up in front of his face and already beginning to disappear. He waved a hand in front of his face to dispel the cloud, wondering at the fact that the room now smelt like the familiar fragrance of burning wood.

“I guess that makes sense.”

As the screen faded to black and the portal opened up behind them Artorigus let out a sigh and crouched down, staring at the place where the robed figure had just been displayed a moment ago. “This isn’t part of the tournament is it?”

Tapping a finger on the hilt of his katana, Artorigus let the rhetorical question hang in the air as he thought. This place, whatever it was, resembled a Halo installation, which fit with the Flood infected thing they’d seen outside and probably meant it had something to do with all of this. Whatever this ‘infection’ was must be based on the Flood from the Halo franchise. What the Flood was doing here on Planet Doom though, far away from the Halo based worlds was anyone’s guess.

Springing up from his crouch suddenly Artorigus strode forward and took one of the remaining Anti-Viral Icons, turning it over and over in his hand; it looked like a badge of some kind, something to be worn or attached to something else. “Did we accidentally trigger another quest? Sounds like a pretty big one whatever it is; admin event maybe? Pretty unfair of them to hi-jack a private tournament to announce it though.”

Turning towards the others he switched his attention from Ekloria to Kaptaan to see if they had anything to add. However, before they could say anything he was distracted by a private message notification, then another, and then another until the message alert became a constant noise. Opening up his menu to see what was going on Artorigus was surprised to see messages from almost everyone in his contacts list, often several, asking about the quest they had just received.

“Yeah, it must be a Sanctuary-wide event. We weren’t the only ones to see that message. Looks like it was broadcast everywhere, not just here but the real world as well; the part with our names wasn't included though. Too bad, it would have been cool to be famous.”

Also, quick question, are we going to be able to acquire flying vehicles at a later time in the RP? 'Cuz I'd really like to have an Arwing for myself later if possible... <_<


I don't see any reason why space flight should be limited to just clans; solo players need to travel between planets as well and they can't always rely on buying transport. The book included things like X-Wings for personal travel and I've got my eye on a personal space craft myself, so hopefully there's room for a dogfight in the future.
