Friendly. The guy who shot her and tried to burn her friends alive was ‘friendly’? Yeah, everyone who wore a mask was weird.

“I don’t know. They took your friends out of her about ten minutes ago and I didn’t think to ask.” Assuming they would even tell her in the first place, she didn’t really need to know where they were going. Her part of this was done, or had been, and if they had anything important to say then they could say it when the police questioned them; then it would be up people more qualified than she was to deal with the massive criminal abduction ring. “If I had to guess I’d say Northwestern Memorial; it’s the closest to here.”

It occurred to her a second after she had said it what the person in front of her might be thinking of doing with that information. “If you were thinking of visiting, I wouldn’t. Not unless you want to be arrested for arson after fleeing the scene and showing up with blood all over you.”
I'm still interested. Just waiting on the thread so I can get started revamping my character sheet.
@King Cosmos Yes I’m still looking for people to fill some roles. I’ve been dealing with some irl drama so the last day has been me playing catch up with others forums I neglected.

Alright sure, no problem.
@TheNoCoKid do you still need more people for this?

By this point she should have expected this whole mess to be related to the people snatchers. Everything she was dealing with lately seemed to be tied to it in some way, even a random encounter like this. They had squads of thugs driving around the city and loading them into vans, bought out entire apartment buildings to store them, had ties to realtors and apparently weren’t hesitant to burn down an entire building or kill people to cover their tracks.

What the hell was all of this?

What was it all for?

“I’m not a hero, I just… help out when and where I can. I’m not a detective either so, I don’t know, you should probably be telling all this to the police instead of me.” This wasn’t any of her business, not anything she should be getting involved in, despite the fact that she had already stuck her nose into it several times already. It was liable to get her killed, or get someone else killed because she tried to handle it herself instead of handing if off to someone more suitable.

This person was right though, now that she was… adjacent to it she couldn’t help but feel like she had to do something, even though she was just some random college kid who had a black belt and something that technically qualified as a super power.

“The guy who shot you. He worked here? Or did he just happen to be here when you arrived?”
Bumping this tab because I need some more players for upcoming roles (Overseers and 'Evil' Team). Reply and @ me if you are interested.

I can jump in if you need more players for roles like this. I'll skim through the thread but let me know what it is you need exactly and I can start working on a character or two.

“Right…”

Akeno was starting to think that everyone who went around calling themselves a vigilante was just a little bit off. I mean, that should have been obvious really; anyone who put on a mask and a costume to fight crime instead of doing something more sensible with their time had to be a bit strange, herself included, but there was a weird sense of theatricality to the ones she had met so far that she hadn’t expected. Like they existed in the pages of a comic book and choose to act like a fictional character.

Like tying a mask around your face and acting like that was enough to disguise your identity.

She let out a sigh.

“Look, normally I’d be willing to entertain this, play along a little, but I can still taste smoke on my tongue from pulling your friends out of a burning building.” That wasn’t a joke either; she hadn’t expected there to be an aftertaste to that kind of thing, but apparently there was. “You’re wearing the same clothes you were a minute ago, all the way down to the same bloodstains; you have the same hair, the same eyes and you still some soot on your shoulders. So instead of answering your question, how about you answer mine and tell me what really happened here; before I come to the assumption that you’re the one who set this place on fire and decide to do something about it.”

Akeno, Kitsune, let that threat linger for a moment before softening slightly. She relaxed behind the mask and remembered the scene that she had stumbled across when she arrived.

“Your friends are fine by the way; beat up, on breath tanks for the time being, but alive.

I think more characters should just be dumb as hell honestly

Just to make sure I didn't miss anything, Bouncer is still wearing the same clothes she was twenty minutes ago, right? She hasn't changed her appearance other than to put on a mask?

Kitsune was still around when the paramedic Bouncer had spoken to came looking for her. There wasn’t really anywhere else she could be right now; once the young woman had disappeared there wasn’t anyone else around to tell the firemen and paramedics what had happened and direct them to where they needed to be. Even when they settled in and there was nothing left for her to do, she stuck around just in case she was needed or in case someone had more questions.

Besides, the van she had stolen was boxed in by all of the emergency vehicles anyway. There was no way for her to get it out until they all left, probably sometime in the morning, and by then the guys she had beat up would probably have woken up and alerted whoever was at the warehouse anyway.

So, when the paramedic came over and pointed towards the sort-of-masked woman who was looking for her, she walked over.

“I knew you were way to calm about being shot. What really happened here? Who are you?”
It was two weeks before Bataar reached the village of the Patch. Settling matters in his home and arranging travel had taken a day, travelling to the coast by foot and finding a boat heading to America had taken almost a week by itself, followed by several days of cross the ocean by steam boat and then finally another trek across the heartland of America to reach his destination.

Incredible.

Truly, the world was more connected now than it had ever been before. To cross half the globe in so short a time would have been unthinkable in his teacher’s day; hell, it had been unthinkable for him too until he had set out on what he had expected to be an arduous journey, only to find it far easier than expected. The world outside his home had advanced while they had been dragging their feet and being stuck in the past; that advance had brought wonders that awed and humbled him. They also worried him.

The journey had been eye opening in many ways. Bataar had seen things he had never imagined he would see on a scale that staggered him, but he also saw less than he had expected. Fewer spirits, fewer places where they could be, fewer people who knew of them and even fewer who cared. Many years ago, his teacher had told him that their way of life was dying out; their traditions and their spirituality. Snuffed out in some cases. Bataar had thought he understood. He did not, until now.

Arriving at the Patch village was like coming home, after all of that. A place where spirits and people lived together. A place where the old ways flourished. Approaching the village, Bataar waved to those he could see, catching the attention of the warriors on watch and waiting for them to come to him. As he did, he conversed with his Sülde.

“What do you think Khan? Do you have any idea why the Patch called us here?”

The spirit in question appeared at his shoulder; taller even than Bataar, broad shouldered and wearing the traditional armour and battle gear of the steppes, the man looked pensive as he considered Bataar’s question. “I do not know for certain, but I feel… something strange. I’ve felt it since the night we first saw the arrow. Something is amiss.”

Cocking an eyebrow, Bataar turned to regard the spirit who had accompanied him since childhood. “Amiss? More evil spirits?”

The Khan shook his head. “No, this is something else. As I said I do not know, but I am sure that this is part of the destiny that led me to you.”

“That so?” It was now Bataar’s turn to look troubled. “I thought we were already done with that business years ago. I can’t imagine anything being worse or more urgent than that night.”

The Patch warriors drew close enough to be within earshot and Khan faded away without another word. Bataar let them lead him into the village to where the other Darkstars were to meet with the one who had called them here; he was not the first to arrive, it would seem.
