"Excellent." Victoria nodded to Kai. "I'd like to be out of this place in thirty. First stop Persephone." Victoria looked over the cargo, checking straps. When she got to the new crate she checked it nervously. Victoria doesn't like not knowing what's on her ship, but sometimes it's safer to just not ask questions. Especially with the particular planet in question. Just as she finished checking the straps the suit came over. "Everything okay Captain?" "Yeah, I was just makin' sure it wouldn't slide none. We're gonna take off in a few. Wouldn't want damage done to whatever it is." The unasked question hung in the air for a moment. Finally the suit spoke again. "No, no we wouldn't want that." He nodded and headed back to his room. "Ugh." Victoria said under her breath and joined Kai in the cockpit.
Convenient. And it's cool I'm using lists for my Mandarin because I don't know it even in the littlest bit. Like I've said I know English and ASL.
That's just fine. *nods*
Beth had felt the strangers eyes asses her. She grinned at the joke about the drink. "It ain't much drink." She added, in her roughed voice, long damaged from yelling in the top masts down. "I was, but my ship decided to leave without me. Been crashin' at my uncle here's place." She nodded to the well intoxicated man beside her. There was no point gettin' into why she had been left, unless asked. Then she'd tell the truth. The navigator was pissed that her corrections, which he hadn't admitted were right, were in fact right, and they had ended up a couple hundred miles further south than desired. They eventually got up to Florida and the ship had left about five minutes before Beth had made up to the dock. It had technically been her Uncle who had delayed her, but she wasn't late, and that pissed her off the most. Beth pocketed the tool and held out her hand to the stranger. "I'm Dave Wakefield, Navigator." She decided adding the title would be the best way to make sure she didn't get put in a shit job again.
@wilsonturner & @13sparx13 I'm going to say your characters are already on board so we can get past the first posts and into the black.
"All right." She nodded to McGarretty then yelled for Shen. "Do ya mind showin' him a passenger bunk?" Once McGarretty was taken care of she turned to the new comer. She raised her eyebrow slightly at the Japanese greeting. That wasn't a language she used all that often. "We're headed that way." Maybe I can convince McGarretty to get off there too. Victoria blindly hoped. Victoria talked numbers with him for a minute, then said. "Welcome aboard Williamson. I'll show you to your bunk." The ship was full. The cargo that she was taking to Salisbury, that had already been on ship before the unscheduled stop, had taken up plenty of space. Now they were heading to Bellerphone with a small crate and four new passengers. Victoria took a deep breath. This would be an uncomfortable trip that was for sure. Two stops before the suits were off. One for Williamson. Then Salisbury, then Bellerphone. The trip to Bellerphone alone would be three weeks. At the passenger quarters she made sure that Williamson, the suits and McGarretty were comfortable. Then she headed up to the cockpit to check on diagnostics. "Please tell me we're good to go." She asked Kai.
Eh, leave it. You'll get an odd look from Victoria. It adds some character.
Well there isn't technically anything against it. I haven't heard of the gang before. I do have to say though that I think New Melbourne is an Australian planet, just going by the name.
Beth sat at the bar next to a cousin of hers, or was it an Uncle. She could never quite remember the relation. Hell half the time she was lucky if she remembered the name. There were too many of them, some weren't actually related either. He was cracking a joke about a cabin boy and a donkey. It wasn't funny, none of this cousin's... No definitely an Uncle, jokes were funny. Beth gave him a laugh though at the punch line. Got to humor the family, they'd keep her secret and she'd do favors here and there. This Uncle's favor had been easy, come for a drink. She preferred bars that weren't so... seedy. Beth had made him swear to call her Dave, and she dawned her boy clothes. There was no way she was going to hang out at a bar where she might finally get a flight out of this humid hell hole in her dress. She'd burn the dress if it didn't have its uses at times. Beth's hands unconsciously played with one of her navigator's tools. One of the older ones. A bit rarer and seen about never. Since compasses had come into favor no one wanted to do the math anymore. That was Beth's strong point. She could do it all in her head, faster than most. Could hardly read, but she was the best navigator in the skies. Had started beating out old salts before she had moved up from a simple grunt. She grinned at that memory. The first time she had saved the ship from going way too far out of the way. The door opened and Beth glanced open, loosing the memory as some merchant looking man came in. It was hard to work for merchants. What was he doing in this bar though? Uncle whatever his name was, patted her on the shoulder. "Dave," Good he wasn't drunk enough to forget that. "How long ya stayin' the lady wants ta know?" "Till I can catch a new boat." She gave her uncle a grin and looked up half praying for a lift out of this hell hole.
Definitely him, she cursed to herself. Of course it was. "I'm Caine." He didn't seem to remember her, that was a blessing, maybe she could repay her stupid debt to him and forget the whole thing without him even realizing it. That'd be a miracle. She hated the idea of owing him, especially for the reason. If he told any of the crew she'd never hear the end of it. "Ya sure? Bellaphron isn't exactly known for takin' on random work hands." Maybe this would be enough, she held her breath. "I suppose I can take ya where I'm goin' after that if they won't take ya there. Credits are fine."
