I'm going to have to take a break for awhile. One of my dogs just passed; we went to bed together like we always do and when I woke up she was gone. I feel awful right now.

Had a fun birthday. Had some alligator tail for dinner, overall was pretty good for a place I hadn't been to before. Will start getting back into the groove of things soon.

"I thought that life couldn't be any shittier than it already was. I was wrong."
Jess, monologuing in her head

Appearance Details

As someone who isn't particularly interested in appearances, Jess isn't much of a standout.

Her attire often consists of anything baggy and/or with long sleeves, such as jackets and sweaters. Some of her peers have attempted to get a rise out of Jess by exclaiming that her family is poor or that she shops at the thrift store, but such words are meaningless to her. Practicality and comfort are more important to Jess than trying to impress others and buying into the next new fad that comes around.

Jess keeps her hair boyishly short, resulting from her dislike of long hair that gets in the way of everything. It once caused her to be mistaken as a boy by an elderly substitute teacher; an incident Jess has yet to live down.
Characterization

When compared to the jocks, cheerleaders and other popular kids of Stockbridge, Jessica Langbroek is rather bog standard. Both of her parents, an on-call firefighter and a late night bartender, were Alpena natives, and chose to stay local. Although she had no control over this decision, Jess felt trapped by it, being forced to grow up in the "shithole of a city" she had come to believe Alpena to be over the years.

With her parents' jobs often keeping them away from home, Jess grew into a socially awkward kid that ate plenty of cheap TV dinners and typically fell asleep to infomercials on the couch. In turn, Jess quickly found herself uninterested in making friends or trying her best in school. She did her own thing, and didn't particularly care what anyone else thought.

In a cruel twist of fate, this outlook on life likely saved Jess' life when the infection found its way into her high school. None of her classmates cared if she lived or died, making it even easier to worm her way out of the chaos without attention.
Character Notes

Family:

- Allison Langbroek: Mother; works late nights bartending for extra cash. Late 30s. Fate is unknown.

- Henry Langbroek: Father; works as a firefighter. Bit of a local celebrity. Mid 40s. Probably dead as a result of his job.

Classmates:

- Aaron West: "If ego was a person, you'd have Aaron."

- Ethan Hubbard: "Seems cool, at least compared to his siblings."

- Hera González-Jones: "Too focused on the future to not be an asshole."

- Quinn Ashburn: "Don't buy into the happy-go-lucky façade."
Inventory

- Wallet, containing identification, loose change, etc.
- Backpack, filled with assorted school supplies
- Apartment keys, labeled with the number 307
- Smartphone, hand-me-down and outdated

I'm going to be dead honest here and admit that I did see this coming a mile away.

Frankly, I do enjoy writing with the cast, the setting, etc. It has honestly been fun to write, and PRCU has been one of the first roleplays in a long, long time that I've tossed post after post out on-time or earlier than required. Nevertheless, given the choice of stopping the roleplay now or continuing on until September, I am going to have to agree with the former. Writing towards a story's end is one thing, writing until we hit the inevitable chopping block is another. It takes the wind out of my sails, and I do not have any interest in continuing a roleplay that will be suddenly dropped in a few months, especially prior to any of the actual "meat" of the roleplay is represented in the story (classes, for instance).

Additionally, @webboysurf covers my other qualms with his post above. The brakes on this roleplay have been slammed repeatedly, and as of the last few weeks we've ran straight into a brick wall. Any and all momentum we might've had at this point has completely petered out while we've waited for the time skip post. I understand real life can get in the way of roleplaying, and that this is of course a hobby, but the player base was upheld to consistent deadlines. I know some people had extensions, but truthfully it does leave a sour taste in my mouth to watch everything go up in smoke after weeks of waiting for a post despite upholding my end of what is essentially a "contract".

It is what it is, though. Good luck in whatever comes next, Wraith.
Hello all! I'd love to join this but I'm not going to lie I dont really know how to do the character sheet like everyone has it. Kinda stopped me from joining some RP's cuz I dont want to seem stupid. I really like zombie stuff though! If anyone wants to help me I totally have a character ready!

D-Day: Lost World is an apocalyptic modern day roleplay centered around a classified military experiment gone wrong—Project JX-04132, an American attempt at weaponizing teleportation.

Funded by the Department of Defense, the project was designed for the US military which had been interested in acquiring the power to transport entire armies and fleets within a blink of an eye. Although initial prototype tests proved successful, in the process of doing so they had unknowingly ripped the fabric of time and space. Present day suddenly entangled itself with the past, and multiple timelines merged together into a singular universe branch. The world was lit ablaze with waypoints, acting as makeshift gates to ancient versions of Earth, which in turn allowed dinosaurs and other extinct, prehistoric fauna to funnel out from these portals in droves.

The creatures that emerged from these portals would run amok across the globe and devastate population centers no matter the country or continent. For all intents and purposes, D-Day had fallen upon humanity. As of that day, despite all the technological advances they had made, humanity was no longer on the top of the food chain.

Good news! You don't have to worry about the pseudo-military science at all; it's just there to give background fluff to the setting. Instead, we will be focusing on the survival aspect of it. After all, who doesn't enjoy a good dinosaur chase scene?

Your character is a current denizen of the fictional town of Orrick, Indiana, which is painfully midwestern as it gets. In the interest of supporting Orrick's local high school, you have decided to go to a fundraiser being held at the nearby drive-in movie theater to watch the original Jurassic Park. Yet as the movie progresses, something feels off. The ground seems to shake. Nearby trees sway in the distance. Something big is coming, and it's hungry.

But you're just imagining that, right? Got too into the movie, that's all... right?

Some things came up, so I'll get this thread up today once I'm done with dinner.

@Martian Prizrak already DM'd me a military-based sheet, which also kind of covers the mechanic role too. Personally, I would go for another archetype/role myself. I'd rather not this RP become a full cast of military (or similar roles, like police) characters and turn this into the Monster Hunter film or something.

@Big McLargehuge Honestly, part of me feels hesitant in accepting an idea like that. Sure, people like that exist. But the idea also seems very much tailor-made for this RP in particular and could be easily be abused.

Maybe I'm just being weird about it, though.
