NationalityGlory technically comes from Atlas, but was born outside the kingdoms, and has lived in Mistral all his life.
Physical DescriptionAt 6 feet 7 inches. Glory is taller than you might expect from a Gecko Faunus. He is extremely lithe rather than thin. His muscles are corded rather than bulky. His fingers and limbs seem longer than they should be. Glory gives the impression of being stretched out. His Faunus trait is his violet gecko eyes. As a result, he doesn’t blink often, but he does use eye drops frequently. He had black hair that he cuts himself whenever pieces get long enough to annoy him. The result is a mess of mismatched hair lengths. He has pale skin that burns easily and then he starts to peel.
He tends to always be cold, so he prefers to wear long sleeves and hoodies at practically all times. He also wears a beanie and fingerless gloves. He wears skinny jeans and steel toes boots. The heels on the boots slide off easily and he does not wear socks. He also has an extra-long scarf wrapped several times around his neck. This outfit is completely black as Glory doesn’t realize black washes him out. His bootlaces and scarf are the same color violet as his eyes, and the silver buckle on his belt is engraved with a key symbol. He wears his belt so the buckle is over his left hip. He has a silver stud in his left earlobe and a small silver hoop in his upper right ear. He also has a loop in his left eyebrow and a stud on the right side of his nose. Glory is not aware that this outfit basically makes him look like an “edgy bad boy.” He does own a pair of large dark sunglasses that he can use to hide his eyes should he wish to, but he mainly uses them to block the light rather than pretend not to be human.
CharacterizationDespite his apparent appearance Glory is optimistic and cheerful about 95 percent of the time. He is almost always smiling and has plenty of good will and love to share with those around him. He is constantly willing to be a listening ear and does his best to not give unwanted advice or to share another person’s secrets. However, he is not as quick to share his own troubles and stresses with others and hides any and all worries behind his cheerful demeanor. His manner is not just a façade, he genuinely a happy person, but he does choose to emphasis these traits because those are ones he believes are worth having. He is a firm believer that worrying or being pessimistic are a waste of time and will chide himself if he catches himself feeling any of the “negative emotions.”
When it comes to work or academics, Glory believes that hard work is key. He believes that dedications always pays off. He does have undiagnosed dyslexia and becomes frustrated when that interferes with his studies. He has been heard to mutter under his breath about how stupid he is. In reality, his is fairly smart, and given enough time can reason just about any problem. He is attentive in class, but rarely voices questions for fear of appearing dumb or unintelligent. He does his best to balance his martial training and classroom studies. He is confident in his physical skills. It is the academics where his worries manifest. When he volunteers his services to help out (i.e. with moving or house repairs), he will help to the best of his abilities and stay until the job is done. Despite never having a job, he would have a similar attitude in the workplace.
Socially, Glory is well aware of the disparity between humans and Faunus. He does pay attention to the political and social news regrading Faunus rights. Glory has gone to protests in the past and plans to go to protests in the future. He does his best to remain peaceful at these protests, but he will defend people if necessary. The White Fang’s recent actions worry him. He thinks that all their violence has done is prove the worst Faunus stereotypes. One of his reasons for becoming a Huntsman is in order to prove that a Faunus can be selfless and willing to put their life on the line for country, city, and citizens. Other reasons included adventure, travel, and fighting for a living. His personal goals include a better life for his mom and a good life for his future family. He had no idea what that future family looks like yet.
The constant cheerfulness and Glory’s frustration with his learning difficulties is starting to take its toll. He is about yea close to a mental breakdown.
BackstoryThere are two important women in Glory’s life. The first is Electrum and Goldie. Goldie is the woman that Glory knows as Mom. Electrum is his birth mother that Glory knows only from stories. Though those stories are sparse. From the little information Glory was able to get from Goldie, Electrum was an “employee” of a brothel in the hidden in the slums of Mantel and visited by the wealthy of Atlas. This place was an “open secret” and had been Electrum’s home since her birth. Goldie was a person near the bottom of high society’s totem pole. She went to this place, found Electrum. Goldie always said they were friends, but Glory always suspected that they were something more. Yet, Glory never pushed. Goldie always seemed forlorn and faraway when she talked about her.
Perhaps the reason why was because when Electrum discovered she was expecting she went to Goldie for help. The two managed to run from the brothel, Mantle, and even Atlas, together. They ran too late. Electrum died seeing one last dawn and morning glories for the last time. The boy was born healthy and hale. Keeping the newly named Glory alive was enough to keep Goldie going. She managed to get them both to Mistral and used the last of the Lien she had taken from her home to buy them new identities. She took the name Goldie Argent and Glory was given a name that told everyone what he was, Freeborn.
It was not an easy life for a single human woman to raise a Faunus child that was unrelated to her, but Goldie made it work. She wasn’t the best Huntress, but she had been Huntress trained. She used that training to work as a bouncer at several Mistral bars. That didn’t pay much, and Goldie found herself living beneath the style she was used to. Not a word of complaint left her mouth. He was more concerned with raising Glory. It wasn’t long before he was no longer the Faunus wasn’t just Electrum’s child. Glory was her kid, her child, her boy. Goldie had lived a cold life. Her boy would not sure the same fate.
The result was that while Glory never had the newest toy or Scroll he had more than enough love and a Mom that always took his side no matter what even if she wouldn’t let him get away with being wrong. Mistakes were discussed. Triumphs were celebrated. Limits were designed simply to keep life orderly and to keep Glory safe. He spent his days running about Mistral and getting into troubles. His Mom knew his troubles first. He had her unconditional support. When he decided her wanted to be a Huntsman Goldie was Glory’s first martial teacher. When he faltered in that choice in order to get a part time job to help pay bills Goldie said know. It’s Glory and Goldie against the world.
Glory’s family history isn’t the happiest, but his personal story was beautiful, there was limit of financial wealth, but Glory always knew he was loved. He will take that love and let it carry him on as he flies to the future.
SemblanceGlory’s Semblance is Adhesion. In short, he can use his hands and feet to climb just about any sort of surface. This is why his boots have removeable soles and his gloves are fingerless. He can also use this ability to hang off of things such as ceilings or the outside of airships or trains. He can also use it to hold on to something he doesn’t want to let go of. He can only stick for as long as he as Aura. If his Aura breaks or he runs our he is forced to unstick. Right now, his Adhesion is only his hands and feet, but Glory is hoping that as he practices Aura Control, he will be able to use Adhesion with his entire skin area. Right now he can use it to carry himself plus what he can comfortable carry up things. As such weight training is also part of his training.
Weapon & Fighting StyleGlory’s weapon, Morning’s Rising., has two forms. The first is a is a sword that is about 18 inches long. The hilt is long enough that it can be used as two-handed weapon, but the blade is light enough that it can be used as a one handled weapon. It’s closer to a rapier or fencing foil than another type of sword. The hilt twists to case the blade to spiral out into a round shield and the guard locks the segments into the place. The radius of the shield is 18 inches. The hilt doubles as the handle rather than a traditional double strap. When Morning’s Rising is in shield form there is a pattern of twisting morning glories and vines done in an electrum and gold colored metals.
Due to Morning’s Rising duel form Glory had developed two districting fighting styles. The first is an offensive style. Glory does not think before rushing into battle. However, once he is in battle, he prefers precise strikes to brute strength even as he puts his full power into each blow. He is best against groups where he is surprisingly skillful at turning them against each other. He tends to dart between people before making his limited strikes. While in his offense mode, he does have a habit of using Adhesion to grab his enemies’ weapons to force them to let go.
His second style is a defensive style. Glory will get between the enemy and someone or some ones that needs defending and then stay there. He will use his Semblance to stick his feet to the ground and keep his shield in his hand. Then he will take blow after blow until that one moment when he can push out and send the enemy away. Then with Adhesion he will grab on to the person he is defensing and get them out of the fight. It is not the best method and Glory will admit that. He practices this in order to improve it. He wants to focus on rescuing civilians, so this is his prefer technique. He is hoping to prefect it during school.
Glory is also decent at hand to hand combat and multiple sword fighting techniques. He had training with Dust projectiles, but because Morning’s Rising doesn’t have a ranged form, he’s not that good at it. He can hit the target but he can’t consistently hit the center. He is talented at parkour and free running both with and without his Semblance. He crafted his weapon and takes care of it himself. He is fairly possessive of it. He makes a point to discuss his strengths and weakness with any potential allies. He is well aware that the point of a team is so they can cover each’s weakness with their strengths, but he doesn’t have much practice doing that.
IntangiblesGlory’s Mom likes to joke that he is cold blooded. He is always complaining that he is cold. As such, getting him a hoodie, blanket, or a warm scarf for any type of present giving occasion is a fabulous idea. He has a collection of blankets that are gifts from his Mom, and they all made their way to school with him. As an aside he owns more blankets than clothes. He wears flannel pajamas even in summer. He studies under a mountain of blankets. Glory does not hide from his temperature issues and when people tease him about it he good naturally joins in the joke.
What he doesn’t find funny is his aversion to light. Light, especially bright commercial light, gives him a headache like he wouldn’t believe. He has been accused of using his wraparound sunglasses to hide his Gecko eyes and pretend to be human. That is not the case at all. The glasses are to limit the amount of light he has to deal with. He doesn’t hesitate to prop his glasses on his head or stick them in his pocket. If he had a choice, he would be nocturnal just to avoid the bright lights of the day. Another reason for being nocturnal would be the fact that in the morning it takes half a dozen alarms to get Glory up. On the flip side he has problems falling asleep.
Glory is not found of sweets or desserts. The lone exception is his Mom’s homemade chocolate fudge. He’s not a vegetarian, but he still prefers fruits and vegetables. He’s especially fond of watermelon or other melons and cucumbers. He chooses caffeinated tea over coffee and constantly has a thermos of it. He does not add sugar or milk to it. He likes action movies and well written children films. He does not read for fun, but he does like listening to stories. His favorite color is dusky pink. Glory has started experimenting with eyeliner. He has a fondness for small, fluffy animals, and it takes all his self-control not to adopt every one he has every meet.
His favorite adamic class is mathematics even though he isn’t a mathematical genius. He dislikes any class with a lot of reading but does his best not to let that show. He has been known to quietly read out loud to try and help with his struggles reading. This is only partially effective, and he becomes self-conscious if this is pointed out. Glory tends to study alone in order to avoid showing people his challenges. He still takes it seriously. Once a teacher let him record the class lessons and that was easily the easiest class for him to study for and pass. He doesn’t expect that and doesn’t ask for it.
Glory had yet to have a serious romantic relationship. The girl in class is kind of cute and so is the boy that runs the register in the evening at the grocery store. The non he sees with their nose in a book is really cute. Kissing them or even holding their hand has not even crossed Glory’s mind. It’s more like a random observation than anything else. He wants a family someday but hasn’t even thought about what that family might one day look like. It has not occurred to him that before he can have a family he needs to, maybe, possibly date someone or at least look for a decent co-parent.
