"No one can escape the fate given to them. All that remains is the end, where you will all perish. Eternal greatness exists only within myself. Sing a song of sorrow in a world where time has vanished."
Annie had been walking towards her horse while she was talking to this "Joseppi" person, conversing along the way. Neon Knight trailed slowly behind."Well, I suppose that makes sense. Having a fella in big ol' armor is bound to draw some attention in a crowded place. Ya hear that Neon?" Annie had kept her eyes on Slow Ride as she walked towards him, but looked back towards Neon as she said her last sentence. When she looked back forwards Joseppi had his fist stuck out, with what looked like another fist jutting out towards her.
"Woah, now!" Annie stopped dead in her tracks, and just as suddenly as the fist had appeared, it had vanished. "Well now, that's a neat trick." Neon Knight looked ready to strike at said hand, but relaxed when it dissapeared. After another moment of walking, they had arrived where Slow Ride was. Annie untied him from the post and hopped on.
"Well, if ya truly are headed back to New York, I'd be right happy to have ya come with. I'm going to stop by the beach first if ya don't mind. Want to get in one last good look before headin' off." It was about this time Neon Knight hopped on to Slow Ride as well, but the horse didn't seem to notice. Annie gave Slow Ride a pat on the head and he began to trot off. "Go ahead and get your horse and meet me there would ya?"
"Recall? Well, uh..." Annie looked over at Neon, who seemed to have calmed down a bit. "What do ya mean by that? And what do ya mean by 'stand'? Like a nightstand? I didn't bring anything like that with me. Wouldn't fit too well on the horse."
Annie put her hand to her chin and looked down. "Although now that you mention it..." Annie thought back to a few months ago when she first got Neon. He just up and appeared one day, right after she got sick. He told her something about a "stand" and something about manifestation. But her focus was more on why nobody could seem to see this plate armored fella standing next to her. He lifted things up to try and prove he was really there, but everyone just said it was some sort of elaborate magic trick.
"Say, wait a second. Does that mean you can see ol' Neon here? You'd be the first person in a while to say you could. Thought the last guy ran off when he saw him. Wonder what that was all about. Besides, I'd rather have him out. Having someone to talk to when yer traveling really works wonder for mental health."
"Anyways, I'm about to head out and start my travelin' back home to New York. Spent so long in the south I started pickin' up on the accent. You're welcome to travel with for a while. Unless you're headed off to New York for your own reasons. Then I guess you could go the whole way if you wanted."
Annie and Neon walked slowly through the town, glancing left and right, looking for anything interesting that might be useful. The only thing that really caught her eye was a candy store of some sort.
It was about that time when a loud cracking sound went above the voices and ruckus of the street. Neon Knight immediately adopted a defensive stance and looked around for any signs of trouble. A moment passed, and nothing seemed to happen. Neon Knight relaxes, and puts its weapon away. With that out of the way, Annie continued down the street. All was going mostly well, when suddenly...
"Do you believe in gravity?"
The voice made Annie nearly jump out of her boots. Who was that. She turned to see a large and imposing man standing before her. "G-Gravity?" she took a step back, and Neon Knight stepped to her side. "Uh... W-Well, last I checked, yes. It supposedly holds me on the ground so yeah, I guess I do seein as it works and all." Annie held her hand out to the side, blocking Neon Knight. She shot him a quick glance, as if saying "No".
San Diego, where the Bitches are fine and the Beaches are finer. Or was it the other way around? She'd never been any good at stuff like that due to all her traveling. But her brief time here had been fun.
Slow Ride trotted through town slowly but steadily. Not seeming to mind the fact that both her and her plate armored friend were riding him. This would probably be her last trip through a town for a while. She needed to make sure she had everything she needed. Food? Check. Water? Check. Rope? Check. She had her cleaning kit, a map of the area, as briefly useful as that would be, but what else would she need?
She turned around to face Neon Knight."Hmm... hey Neon, can ya think of anything else we might need? I think I got everythin'." A voice spoke out from the helmet. "Uh... W-What about medical supplies? What if you get hurt out there?" Annie thought for a brief moment before responding. "Well, I did think of that, well I suppose you could say I thought of you and decided to get me a roll of bandages. Maybe a bottle of whiskey could do me some good. Or maybe some of these stores got some candy. I do like my caramel."
She didn't need to waste money on ammunition or anything. Her knight-like friend would do most of the defending. She had something sharp in her cleaning kit if push really came to shove. Or her spade. It was... oh 9:30? Maybe a little after? It was about time for her to start the journey back home to New York. Don't want to start too late into the day.
Annie directed Slow Ride to a nearby trough and tied him to a post nearby, much like a few others. She hopped off Slow Ride, as well as Neon Knight. "I guess it couldn't hurt to look around a little. Come on Neon, let's go see if we can't just find something we're missin'."

"What in the Goddamn..." Did... did that just happen? Monica stared at the now empty bed. "I... I think I need to take a tox screen..."
Find him? Where would she even begin to look? Running back the the front desk, looked up John's information. No ID, no adress, no family, no phone number, nothing. All she knew was that he was found out in the forest about a mile from here. Guess that's where she was headed.
About an hour after work, after she had gotten home she changed into her normal clothes, which consisted of some blue jeans and a brown button up jacket over a white collared shirt. Her friends always teased that she looked like belonged in an Indiana Jones movie.
After a quick drive to the edge of the forest, she exited her shiny silver car, and began walking out towards the forest's heart. The birds were quiet, but the insects were as loud as ever. And just as annoying. Having no bug spray, she was forced to march on. The walk seemed to last for ages, but her watch said only 20 minutes had passed. What was she even looking for anyways? A tent? A cabin? A... cave? Well, probably not that last one.
The air began to grow more and more humid as she progressed onwards, and the insects became less common. Her hair was beginning to stand on end. "Uh... John? Are you out here? Or am I in a fever dream and I need to see a doctor?"
That was odd. John didn't quite sound right. Maybe it was just the dehydration talking at that point. She'd had patients talk funny before, so she paid him little mind. But she did catch his question.
"What do I like most about my job huh?" Monica put her hand to her chin and thought deeply. "Hm... Well, if I had to say, it's probably because I like helping people. That and I've always liked medicine. It's a strange thing, medicine, just a simple chemical can completely reverse disease and death. I suppose that really, deep down, I like to see people get better."
And that was true. Monica took in sheer delight at the premise of fixing others. Maybe she should get into surgery? No, no, her hands weren't nearly steady enough. Medicine would do for now. But then she thought about her future. Was this what she really wanted? She felt like she could do more. She loves what she does, but she always felt like there was... more she could do. But what?
Work at a hospital is a very busy thing, and today was no different. Nurses and doctors ran to and fro, bringing medicine to infected patients, and life saving surgeries to those who were injured. While Monica couldn't perform major surgeries, she did have minor experience with a scalpel, and has seen many surgeries preformed by her superiors.
What Monica could do, however, was deliver and administer medicine. Everything from antibiotics and blood thinners, to antivenom and hanging up IV's full of blood and chemical cocktails. And that's what she was doing today. Pushing carts full of supplies around the various floors and helping out patients who needed water, or had questions. Or sometimes, with the older patients, just a little bit of talking.
Monica was doing what she did best, walking to her own quick beat, when she ran into Dr.Edwards, and asked him if he needed anything. Things had somewhat calmed down over the past few hours, but she knew she should never say the "Q" word out loud. It's bad juju in hospitals, and she found that out the hard way.
"Ah, Dr. Edwards! I just finished up with the patient in room 3. You need anything else while I'm around?""Actually, yes. You remember John, the patient in room 6 who arrived just a couple hours ago? His saline bag needs replaced. I'd appreciate it if you could get him a new one.""Yes doctor."
Monica gave him a quick nod, and began walking towards the storage area to grab a bag of saline. John was a patient that had been suffering dehydration after getting lost in the woods. The doctors said he just needed some rest and water, and he'd be good to go. Monica entered the storage room, and grabbed a bag of the salt infused water.
