This City is just like Gotham; turning people into background noise and letting the rain wash away the edges of what's left. She'll be a line item tomorrow, if she's anything at all and then it'll just happen again. I used to think it was all random; all bad luck for these women, but that kind of chaos is never so clean, and never so evil. I never believed in hell but I’m starting to think someone else does and they’re patient enough to build it one life at a time. Her name was Holly and she thought this was her break. New city, new start. One good night away from something better. I’ve heard that story before. By the time I found her someone had already decided what she was worth. Just another girl to force through the cracks and let her name disappear twice; once from the street, then from the record. Somebody built this entire system and it's working exactly as intended. Vicki Vale thinks she can drag it into the light. Maybe she can prove it exists. Me? I don’t need proof. Somebody knows why this keeps happening and when I find them, I’m not asking twice. P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) __________________________________________________________________________________ Above all, this will be a self-contained story delving into all things cult, occult, and the cyclical nature of power and violence. Nine lives, nine posts, one story. I want to lean into my weird and wonderful way of twisting a narrative into something character driven and exciting, and hopefully compelling to read. It will be from the POV of Selina/Catwoman navigating her search in a new city (there are a lot of players in Gotham already so this may not work there) with a side support of Vicki Vale offering a different perspective on the case and disappearances, with an altogether different motive, and some appearances of Felicia Hardy as New York's original cat.

October 18, 1967.

The day that the world changed forever, a near-cataclysmic event rocked the world.

In the midst of a lunar eclipse, an unprecedented coronal mass ejection irradiated the planet in high-energy particles, visibly noted by the largest and brightest occurrence of aurorae in recorded history. The focal point of which was in a sleepy New Hampshire hamlet of Crestwood Hollow. While ethereal colours bathed the night sky of the Western hemisphere, the CME also brought a geomagnetic storm, which ravaged Earth’s electrical transmission lines, causing power outages on a global scale. It was on this day that the Earth nearly stood still, sitting in total darkness for nearly ten minutes before backup systems began to re-activate. Numerous regions around the globe were left in the dark well beyond that. Cities were powerless for nearly a week, while some rural areas were forced to survive for nearly a month without power. This event left a death toll numbering in the tens of thousands, becoming known as the 'Long Night'.

However, the aftermath of the Long Eclipse reached far further than anyone could have ever anticipated. The resulting effect of the high-energy particles was a mutation appearing in one person of every million people. While public knowledge of the mutation remains vague, selected sects in the scientific community are aware of it and have dubbed the emergence of the mutation ‘Viriumosis’. In more common jargon, the possession of a mutation is referred to as the ‘Hype-Factor’ or ‘Hype-Gene’, making those who possess it a Hyperhuman. PREMISE:

Spinning out of my collective 'Hyperverse' lore, SUNBORNE is the latest entry into that catalogue and, in many ways, is a return to my roots. While most of the Hyperverse has been hyper-focused (wink), around the school of Pacific Royal Collegiate and University, SUNBORNE instead is focused on the individual and the lives they lead within the fictionalized metropolis of Crescent City, California. Lately, I've been particularly inspired by Invincible and its superhero world-building, while more often than not, previous Hyperhuman projects have taken inspiration from X-Men and Heroes. Here, my intention with SUNBORNE is a return to sandbox storytelling using the Hyperhuman lore as a springboard to build and flesh out new heroes, their stories and their (hopefully) complicated lives.

C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T C H A R A C T E R C O N C E P T ___________________________________________________________________________________ Twenty-three years ago, the world as we know it almost ended. Mass destruction of souls tipped the metaphysical balance in ways that would have collapsed the cycle of life and death, creating a world with neither. It may have been a better world, especially for those who fear death, but it was averted. Things did and still do remain as they are. Chad did not save the world himself, but he was there supporting his friends along the way, recognized for it in some ways as others went unnoticed, and that was fine. Since then he’s found footing in a boxing career, becoming world renown after more than a decade in the ring. But for all his strength, he has so much buried within that hasn’t seen the light of day. The part of him that burns to fight has grown cold as hard fists are covered in padded gloves. The part of him that flourishes from helping others has withered under the spotlight. The devils in his shoulders are whispering to him to seek something more, and he is one chance encounter away from listening. P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) P L O T ( S ) & G O A L ( S ) __________________________________________________________________________________ An off-handed reference to Bleach in the Discord channel discussing this experimental game in this lineage left me wondering: how could I make it work? While most of the setting would be relatively difficult to incorporate due to its deliberate distance from Earth’s society and human perception, Chad is what’s called a Fullbring, and can use his powers without turning into a ghost that’s invisible to most people like the majority of the rest of the cast. And he’s also Chad. Bleach is a favorite story of mine, but in a cast of phenomenal characters, Chad is at once among the main cast and is only passably fine. The 'Yamcha' of Bleach, if you will. Part of my aim would be to expand and focus on a relatively secondary character in the source material. An angle with which to do that is his age. Comics are cyclical, rebooting characters and moving their storylines forward in time (Captain America was once displaced from WWII by only a couple decades…). But manga start, go for their length, and end, with really popular ones continuing on in some fashion (Bleach included as we wait for its continuation after a tease several years ago now). To represent this, I set the Bleach timeline at exactly the length it is in canon. The main conflict of Bleach concluded in 2003 over 20 years ago, the epilogue set 10 years later too long over. While he has so much context to his backstory, in the RP he’s a gentle giant who’s boxing career is leaving him cold, his superhero career being born out of an intersection of the fighting he enjoys (at odds with his defensive pacifism) and the kindness and will to help others that are so central to who he is. In rediscovering the self he hasn’t touched since high school, he’ll rediscover the strength he tempered alongside his friends, and perhaps see some inner devils along the way.

I genuinely don't know enough about Bleach to be comfortable accepting this sheet into the game. While I trust you as a writer, this is feeling outside the bounds of my comfort and limits as a GM.

If anyone else wants to weigh in, I'd be happy to listen, but I've been mulling a response for several days now, and I keep coming back to no.

The day Crescent City was ripped out of California and suspended several miles above the Earth. A shield fell over the city, completely encasing it and immediately some sort of pacification waves. The general populace remained blissfully unaware of the changes to their life, going about their day like nothing had happened.

But Crescent City's Hyperhuman population remained unfazed and aware.

I'm sorry, this RP has several different enforced rules, one being that a character must come from various canon (Marvel, DC etc) but also two being an enforced character structure.

I'm not sure if this RP is the right fit for you.
