Bio

Current GM of World of Light. When it comes to writing, there's nothing I love more than imagination, engagement, and commitment. I'm always open to talk, suggestion, criticism, and collaboration. While I try to be as obliging, helpful, and courteous as possible, I have very little sympathy for ghosts, and anyone who'd like to string me along. Straightforwardness is all I ask for.

Looking for more personal details? I'm just some dude from the American south; software development is my job but games, writing, and trying to help others enjoy life are my passions. Been RPing for over a decade, starting waaaay back with humble beginnings on the Spore forum, so I know a thing or two, though I won't pretend to be an expert. If you're down for some fun, let's make something spectacular together.

Hm, I didn't realize that the Immortal was so close. Had you said that he was right next to the reactor, Guess Who? I must have missed it. If I had known Revel would have acted very differently.
Because we are terrible at posting here.

Woohoo! Are to wanting to continue, Kaben?
For the remainder of the cute little introduction period, Revel listened intently, his chin perched on his fist. Some of the people here, he knew, could offer little in the department of useful or even entertaining information, but he whatever he could glean from them he store in his mental repository. Through the imagined files he shifted, debating whether to archive these latest details for future use, or cast them aside. Powerless sniper? Memorized. Revel smirked; a bullet from far away was the only way someone like Michelle could possibly contribute to a fight. Drake the Chimera? Nothing poignant there. Immortal Freyja? Perhaps useful as a meat shield, or a distraction. Revel always appreciated someone he could throw at the enemy to give him more time to plan. So far, Willow had proved herself capable to the task, but after the twelfth time repairing her cybernetics had lost its charm. When the unsolicited voice of Drake piped up again, this time from the designated 'audience', Revel rolled his eyes. This was not the time to be asking moronic questions in order to chat with a girl.

A few moments passed before the next person got up, leaving Revel time to think. He had expected a formal military training routine, adapted to suit a band of superpowered folk certainly, but something regimented nonetheless. Only through strictest control could a tactician intelligently use his soldiers. While Revel fancied himself such a strategist, he had resigned himself to playing the role of subordinate in order to see his grand scheme to fruition, so perhaps it was a better thing the Director wasn't being more authoritative. Still, it seemed to Revel like something more than a meet-and-greet was necessary to get the ball rolling. In particular, the string-puller looked forward to observing the powers of the others—at least, those he hadn't already foreseen.

The piercing tone of Bright Angel yanked Revel from his reverie. He winced to hear it, wondering yet again why a mere girl would be assigned as his equal. It was insulting to say the least. When Cliff made himself known, however, Revel's fascination ignited. The gestures of a man more than touched by drugs did not escape his eyes, and it pleased the string-puller to recognize someone against whom leverage could be used. Those gripped by drugs, either now or in the past, always listened where others might not.

Finally came Cathryn, and Revel's green eyes fixated upon her. His precognition had granted him her name, but of all her characteristics, it interested him least. Shapely. Blunt. Gun-wielder. Annoyingly confident. And yes, I've seen you on the news. A thorough scoundrel! Fewer silly ideals to get in the way. Pity I couldn't see more of you...I should like very much to see how you respond to some of my serums. As Cathryn finished and sauntered by, Revel shot her an infatuated smile.

Almost immediately after, none other than the project head appeared. Idly wondering if the urgency of his movements meant that things were about to kick off, Revel heeded the Director's explanation. Hah! He resisted the urge to laugh out loud. Running in blind, are we? He mused, grinning. It'll be a slaughter. But it'll make the team stronger by weeding out the weak ones. After a meaningful glance back at Bright Angel, he followed the Widowmaker, MicWiz, and the Chimera to the Satellite room. “Beam me up, snotty.”

And just like that, Revel stood in the nuclear plant. He snorted after Crosscut vanished. “Hit him with everything we have? How stupid. The victorious strategist only seeks battle after the victory has been won.” He glanced at the magical barrier conjured by MicWiz, then at Michelle. “We cannot attempt to defend something by placing ourselves and our objective side-by-side. Let me think...” Revel placed his palm to his head and closed his eyes, as if trying to remember something. The information he sought, however, came not from the past but from the future. He knew that the black-and-gold-clad figure would have no trouble either finding the reactor or penetrating the wizard's shield. He also knew that when Michelle attempted to shoot the Immortal, striding silently toward them, the bullets would do him no harm. “Well, sucks to be you, Widow. Your submachine there won't do anything but annoy this asshole. He's near-invincible. If he gets in this room, we're done. All we can do is bind him and move him around while we try to find out what's responsible for the 'near' part. I didn't any better a read on him, but a lot of people with a lot of power are arrogant and can be baited. If we annoy him, he'll come after us instead of the reactor. Let's move into the next room and see if we can find anything we can use.”

Perhaps we could make the afflictions affinity specific? I'd be willing to come up with something if you would like as I've got a thought or two bubbling in the back of my mind.

Sure, if one of them goes beyond ordinary magic warp.
I have what may be an important question. Is it absolutely necessary to craft and prepare a spell before it can be cast? Would it be at all possible for somebody to cast a sort of impromptu spell?

Hm. Magic is defined by its Forms and its Affinities prescribed during spell preparation. Also during the preparation, it is given a name/incantation which is used to cast it. If a person lashes out with magical energy, with no definition and an incantation made up on the spot, I suppose a primitive spell could be used. It would be a lot like raw magic, very dangerous and uncontrollable, most of all to the user. I've been thinking of making a little tab for certain supernatural diseases/afflictions present in Protea, and this would help thicken that list. I shall call it Burnout - decreased ability to regain mana and use magic after using a spell that hasn't been prepared.
working on it.

Edit: Shabam. hopefully didn't mess up

Good stuff. Keep in mind that Seilber is an NPC, and you're free to play her if you want, or else Seven or Ryo can.

@NarcissisticPotato, @Sho Minazuki, @Kabensaal, and @Tenoren have neither posted nor given an OOC reply. Hey, that's an entire team! Wonder why they're together...
@Mortalbean
The Thinker would be suitable NPC, though I don't imagine he would get much attention based on his location. Unless you have special plans for him, I wouldn't go to the trouble of making a sheet, maybe just mentioning him in another character's backstory. As for your other question, a worker's bodily material remains the same when it becomes a Traveler, but a Traveler may also manifest armor that can be of different material. Depending on the style of armor, it can appear that a Traveler is made of it, rather than their original material. For instance, two of the Journeymen who currently rule Monolith are Elvilika and Udo Koro Kai. The former has dark granite body and light, off-white archer's armor, while her companion Kai has a beige body of clay armored in white brigandine armor.

You may notice at this point that my primary inspiration for Monolith and the golems is Bionicle.

@reddy
A very nice character! Would you make her your primary PC, or someone we encounter (perhaps as a source of information or influence) in Ebb? Also, for posterity's sake, you might want to look over the bio for typos.

@Lord Santa

So pleased to have you with us! Here are the answers you seek: a magician can theoretically use infinite types of magic, but having multiple makes them all weaker. Similarly, a college student can dual-major in engineering and art, but probably won't be as good at art as would someone who focused solely on art. Spells themselves can combine two affinities, but in doing so they meld. For instance, a single spell can't use rock and fire; it will use lava.

Magic can be pretty flexible. If I were you, there could be two solutions for your gun that gets stronger when its owner is richer: one, have it be a Charm, a magical artifact that is closer to primal magic and is more versatile. You've have to include in your backstory how he got it, since Charms aren't easy to come by. Perhaps a certain Traveler, a Spirit of Mechanica, created it several hundred years ago in cooperation with a sorcerer from the Old Coven. Alternatively, you could explore special Affinity combinations. Just like Praecantio plus Lux equals Astra (celestial magic), which is not a true Affinity but an amalgamation of two of them, you might put Metallum and Mentus together to get Lucrum—greed. It is well within the bounds of Greed magic to make something stronger if there's money involved.

As for overarching plot, look hither

Keep the good stuff coming, people!
Nero – Guild Hall

“Guhk!”

Nero gargled, the result of a gasp in surprise uttered halfway through a chuckle. Be it over-dramatization or real shock, he stood paralyzed for a second, affixed by the twin infernos searing within Ariel's eyes. Though unversed in the ways of young love, Nero was pretty sure that none of the star-crossed loves in the stories began with a death glare—at least, not one harsh enough to liquify ice. Hearing her request only deepened his disillusionment, and in the moments after Nero had to try especially hard to keep a straight face. He gave sharp sigh, just shy of a grunt, and breathed in deeply.

He had been foolish, foolish to think that there might be someone out there who'd have an interest for him. Though he had mentioned his looks to Trinity earlier as a self-detrimental joke, the words rang with a cutting truth, one only dulled through laughter. Nobody could look at him and see anything but a creep, and nobody would look at him if he didn't command their attention with his powers. This was why, Nero reflected, he preferred dealing with children. Aside from having easier wishes -to be taller, to be skinnier, to be better at magic for an upcoming stunt- they also tended to appreciate him more. Ayame brought out genuine joy in Nero by treating him with wonder; adults tended to treat him with disdain, even after receiving wishes. This was, Nero supposed, the fate of a dark mage. Oh well. If Ariel wanted to think of him as a monster, he might as well play the part.

Nero crossed his arms, his smile baring all of his teeth. “Tehee, I would like nothing better to try it! Thing is, Jamie kinda had a point. My magic's a lot like an orange without a peel...no, a sword without a handle. It's tough to grasp, and tough to use. Jamie's shadow was not the first time I tested the Law of Manifestation. Fourth, actually. Do you know how hard it is to make something inside you appear outside you? Pretty tough! And it gets harder the more complicated the thingie is. On my second test I stepped a little too far—tried to manifest a dude's courage. Turns out courage is a bright red, cloth headband. Who knew?” Nero laughed through his teeth. “Point is, that weak part of you probably represents a lot. If you cut a hundred things in half, you get fifty and fifty, if my Strychnine arithmetic serves me right, heehee. What's everything fire isn't? Supportive, trustworthy, intelligent, tactful...get the point? If you still want me to grant your wish, I'll do it but you've gotta get outta this guild for a minute. Jamie would try to stop me, the idealist.” Though on the brink of telling Ariel that trying to remove half of her personality would probably obliterate both halves, Nero bit his tongue. A genie seldom told people that his magic wasn't the answer they were looking for; that was something that wishers had to learn afterward. All wishes came with a price, whether Nero meant them to or not. The price for clothes had been the shape of a soul. The price for humiliating your foes was humiliation. The price for giving up so much of oneself was one's life, should the magic fail. These memories ran through Nero's mind. It's not about good or evil. Each action has an equal and opposite reaction. It's that easy.

I just found it amusing xD and he's going to find Prince so annoying. Cause he doesn't really stop. XD

<Snipped quote by t2wave>

Maybe, he doesn't mind but he doesn't use his magic too much on people he doesn't know will care about it or not. Since his magic kinda manipulates emotions a little. Or basically drugs them.

When Karn comes around, flower power activate. Cause Karn doesn't care what happens as long as it isn't bad. XD

That's probably for the best. Nero's eyes through rose-colored glasses is not something your average person wants to see.
I find it a little ironic that the guy who places curses, finds a freakishly tall cat man singing and dancing, getting near people but never actually touching them and forcing them to do anyhing, rude and annoying XD

But Prince was indeed probably being both. Despite he can sing and dance very well. XD butting in on people's conversations. Silly cat.

That was the point. Nero's kinda hypocritical, but to him, because he's a dark mage (or at least thinks he is one), he doesn't think it matters. If you were to ask him, he'd probably say 'you can only break a rule if it applies to you in the first place'. He also has a problem with things that breach his physical and mental peace; even if Prince was the best musician in the world, Nero would find his playing painfully annoying if he did not ask for it.
