Bio

Current GM of World of Light. When it comes to writing, there's nothing I love more than imagination, engagement, and commitment. I'm always open to talk, suggestion, criticism, and collaboration. While I try to be as obliging, helpful, and courteous as possible, I have very little sympathy for ghosts, and anyone who'd like to string me along. Straightforwardness is all I ask for.

Looking for more personal details? I'm just some dude from the American south; software development is my job but games, writing, and trying to help others enjoy life are my passions. Been RPing for over a decade, starting waaaay back with humble beginnings on the Spore forum, so I know a thing or two, though I won't pretend to be an expert. If you're down for some fun, let's make something spectacular together.

”And to escape this relentless thing I plunged gladly and unhesitatingly into the stinking shallows where amidst weedy walls and sunken streets fat sea-worms feast upon the world's dead.”
-HP Lovecraft

Welcome to the city of Ebb.

Founded one-hundred and eleven years ago by the brother of the first President of the Allegiant States, a certain Dagon Exeter, the coastal town enjoyed rapid growth. Though at first an agricultural hub thanks to the region's rich black soil, Ebb developed into a booming trade and residential city after the inhabitants first dug into the loamy earth and turned up the treasure of the sea, washed ashore over the millennium by those strange tides from whose movements Ebb took its name. Glut with citizens eager to build up the manufacturing and shipping business, Ebb grew down as well as up, becoming a stacked city protected from the oceans insurgence by a towering seawall. It grew fame for its water level, changing by the hour, transforming streets into canals, walkways into bridges, and homes into boats. With the recently political upheaval that transformed the Allegiant States into the Sovereignty, Ebb tried to maintain its course, and through its relative proximity to the border of the Republic of Fogi, a primary trade partner, it weathered the war well enough to see the Sovereignty deposed.

Now, however, the special Ebb luck that made it from a coastal village into a towering metropolis and allowed it to survive a war is starting to...well, ebb. The storms characteristic of the area are not subsiding; the blue sky has become but a memory. When the tide leaves, bodies litter the streets. Most alarming of all, a sudden and inexplicable whirlpool dragged an entire floating factory to its doom, though the basin in which it formed had no leaks. Low, rumbling sounds reverberate throughout the city's lowest levels in the early hours of morning. And in the heaviest, stormiest nights, when the rain is tinged red, the Ankou rises from impossible waters to let its crew wander the land, beseeching the cityfolk to forsake their homes and save themselves by taking shelter in the phantom submarine.

Naturally, Mayor Margaret Exeter, great granddaughter of Dagon Exeter, is anxious to find out what is happening to her city. She commissioned an expedition to enter the cisterns beneath Ebb. That's not where you come in, for that team vanished without a trace. Now more fraught with panic than ever, Exeter sent out for a second team, one more qualified, ready not just to investigate, but to fight. THAT is where you come in.

Though only a city in the recently-collapsed Sovereignty, itself only one of three major factions on Chalcedony, the largest continent of Protea, Ebb is having a lot of trouble. This RP is set in a magic-abundant fantasy world with technology akin to 1920's-era Earth. Will you discover the secret of the Ebon Flow? Or will those sea-worms have yet another meal? Let's find out.

Playable Races

All races can use magic, though some have natural inclinations toward some affinities. The only playable Golems will be Travelers

Nonessential Information

This section encompasses a lot of information about the world of Protea. While, of course, super interesting, it is a bit much to read, and it's not required to participate in the RP. You can, however, use this information to create your character. You are not qualified to create a character that uses any of these things, including magic, if you don't read up on it, however.

Rules

1. Everyone should know the rules by now. I will try to be nice about them, but any stupidity is right out
2. Endeavor to be civil to your fellow rpers. It can be tough for a bunch of artists to work on the same painting, but the end result is all the more beautiful.
3. Casual standards please. At least a paragraph or two, and try to post at least once every few days if not more often. Nothing is more lethal to a roleplay than lackadaisicality.
4. Do try to enjoy yourself, double-oh-seven.
5. If you are going to be incapable of posting for more than two days, you must let me know. THIS IS NOT OPTIONAL. If you disappear without telling me your character has a very high chance of being wiped
6. While I am the only GM, I will try to be flexible. Should someone else prove they are capable enough and ask to be made Gm, I will surely consider it.
7. Excessive off-topic conversation will be met with unhappy frowns. Should that happen, there will be frowns all around.

Would it be fine with you if I controlled the rogue sand wizard? I have a pretty good idea.
Superb work, Bethfuu! I was wondering when we'd get someone proficient specifically in the physical arts, with no real magic.
PM Lug

I haven't received one.

Oh, and this is the last time I'm gonna annoy you all with this:
After some help from other forum-goers, the world of Protea has been advanced enough to support a full roleplay! Please, if you're not too proud, give a cursory glance to the Ebon Flow!
Nero - Bar

Throughout Joshua's rebuke, Nero maintained the habit of constantly snickering to himself in an effort to put the older guy off. A response had been drafted fit to aggravate Joshua even further, but the swordsman's sudden departure assured that he had never been in control of this little debate. "Clown-man? How cruel! At least I'm not a pretentious shitstain. Cowardly, huh? Like pussing out on me?" Nero swore unabashedly. Even if Joshua had remained in hearing range, he wouldn't have escaped the outburst. The amused look on Nero's face, coupled with his words, definitely gave him an edge of madness. "Wonder why our didact there thinks he knows so much about wishes, especially mine. Never worry, my pointed friend, I'll get what I want."

It was with tangible dismay, despite his happy expression, that Nero chewed over the precautions of Jarvis. "Mighty, benevolent protector, are we? People should be allowed to make their own choices! It's almost as important as making their own soup, heehee! If someone wants a wish, I'm here to give it to them. That, and the comedy, though the comedy's free! As for answering to you, well...snails are faster learners than me. So, like Mr. Talk-and-run there, if you want me to be silent, you'll hafta teach me the hard way. Don't pull any punches, though; I'm not afraid of a clean cut with history." Nero's voice had descended to a murmur, oddly serious for a being so enthralled by hilarity. He slurped down the rest of his wine, then turned back to Jarvis, and whispered, "Gonna let you in on a little secret. I'm not gonna be around much longer. My wish is to bring happiness to as many people as I can before my dirt nap. When so many people want to barge in on my wish, a long sleep sounds pretty nice." His voice suddenly rose again, marked with a goofy grin. "But enough whining! You've got business to take care of."

Sasha's entreaty reached him then. "Huh?" he asked, confused. He hadn't heard Jamie's suggestion to Trinity, after all, nor had Trinity previously told him about such a venture. He was, however, not at all opposed to getting out of the guild hall and away from other people. The beauty of Sasha, and her sheer unattainability, did not deter him now. "Oh, sure!" Unceremoniously he stuffed the Horned One back in his pouch and stood up. "Where are we going, then?"

Good find.
@Lugubrious If I could just ask one thing though, with Revel could you not go too far with manipulating the story? I mean, you can easily say things like "Elementalist can't help because I see no way of his effectiveness" and then boom, you've practically made one persons character worthless in this fight. Not trying to be mean just pointing out something which can be considered as god-modding. :)

Sorry. I feel that with this character it'll be a hurdle I run into repeatedly. Please just let me know whenever I'm infringing. I'll make this edit.
Is it truly necessary to make Hopper think the Immortal killed Revel in order to get him to kick the guy. Couldn't we just ask Hopper to kick the Immortal really hard into the Reactor Pit?

Probably not, but Hopper has both a defeatist streak and a sympathetic side to him according to his personality. Revel doesn't know the fullest extend on this, but he saw the moment that Hopper said "There's no way" and made a gamble from there. If anything's going galvanize Hopper out of "there's no way" it's the perceived death -or just perceived injury, perhaps- of a teammate in his name.
Just so I can get this right what are the members of tem powder keg?

That was good

Aww thanks.
