Jokes you, being a bogan and being broke went hand in hand!

Timid pokemon though? Surely it wasn't another Wimpod right? While she wouldn't say no persay to another one, it wasn't exactly high on her agenda to go around catching multiples of Pokemon right now. Ignore her collection of Magikarp. The learning that this lake could, in theory, contain anything that flowed out of the nearby Mt Yamir, Lake Charity and other various riverways nearby didn't help Steph narrow down what she was looking for. If only because uh...she didn't really know what was in those waters to begin with!

Oh well, she figured it wasn't much point in stressing over the details anyway. Though in saying that, she was disappointed at the possibility of it probably not being a Poliwag. She would love to catch one, who didn't like a good Poliwrath after all? There was a trend to Pokemon Steph liked for the most part yes, and it wouldn't take anyone too long to figure it out. Granted, she was also happy catching most things, so eh.

Not as disappointed when she saw the price of a good rod though! Wait, no, disappointed wasn't the right word. Disgusted? Yeah, disgusted. She would stick with the old rod for now thank you very much. Not that she had much of a choice anyway, but it was the principle of the matter. She would risk another 29 magikarp, it was uh...good exp farming? Sure, lets go with that one. And while she was aware of the 'tourist trap' that would be the price of these pedal boats, it was also really her only current option so happy enough forked over the money and ignored how ridiculous it looked for her and Freya to be using one of these.

And once she was out there in the middle, she settled as comfortably as one could in one of these 'boats' as she expected to be out here for awhile, especially if she was looking for something 'timid'. As a result she nearly fell out of the boat, metaphorically and literally, when she got a tug so soon and reeled in...was this a Basculin? She wasn't familiar with a white stripe though? Though judging by Freya's reaction to it being here, she figured she had her fish.

To which Freya could have a front row seat to Steph's newest catching technique. Truly, she had more ways to catch pokemon than anyone Freya had seen. For this time? Steph just decided since she didnt really have a Pokemon that would be good out in the middle of the lake, bar another water type in Remy or maybe Barra, then she might as well just do it herself. So she would try and pull it out of the water and wrap her arms around the decently sized fish and just attempt to wrestle it. While on the pedal boat. Nothing could possibly go wrong right?

And if it did, well Glory would have to come out and spam struggle bug or something. And if the boat tipped over and she fell in? eh she would just try to wrestle it in the water unless it got out, then the Glory plan would be in full effect. Fight a timid pokemon with a timid pokemon was plan b, but for now Plan A was just make the thing submit via a wrestle.

@Remram

Freya had just witnessed only the most peak of catching methods clearly. Steph's team was now an abomination of catching methods. Fishing, 'gifted', mutual respect of muscles and attempted food theft. Truly a a highlights reel for the ages already, and Steph was only on her first day. Though now with her new Machop, Bea, in tow, she unleashed Dusk upon the poor early game mons of the city. They never stood a chance. Though admittedly, the scales were evened a bit considering she was trying to use poor Barra, but she had grown almost concernedly appreciative of her little scaled splashing fish. There was just...something about him, she just thought he was neat you know? He had quickly become her favorite after Dusk.

With her level grinding done, for now, Steph now found herself in the park and whistled loudly at the sight before her. She wasn't much for visiting the city, let alone a park if she was there as she saw plenty of nature back on the farm, but even she had to appreciate the appeal of a place like this. Especially for city siders who wouldn't be particularly drawn to the more open and green fields of the countryside. Though she didn't really take much time to take in the sight, as she had things to do. She had a pokemon to fish out on the lake and a trainer school to check out after all!

"Whahtcha theenk weah lookin faw heah anywhys?" She figured Freya to be somewhat of a local to the area, at least a native of the region, so maybe she had heard of something while travelling the city. And it never hurt to strike up some small talk to give poor Freyja something else to think about considering the nonsense she had just witnessed in such a brief amount of time. If nothing else, sticking with Steph would be amusing. "If its a luyke, cahnt be nawthin too cruyzy. ineh' nao why theahs gawnna be a biieg boy thrahshin abeow' loike a Tauros in a china shawp just sweemmin round theah ya knaow? loike Oy would love ih' t' be a Horsea aw somethin, would love t' geh' a Kingdra, buh' doubt somethin loike thahts in a luyke."

It was the seahorse pokemon after all. But a girl could dream, and honestly from a logical standpoint, it could only be a handful of pokemon. But when did logic ever come into such equations anyway? At any rate, unless Steph noticed a grass type, and even then it would depend on the actual pokemon because no she isn't interested in a Petilli, or perhaps a wandering growlithe but she could wait on getting her hands on one but she would at least note they were in the area, she would make a beeline with presumably Freya in tow first towards the fishing stall where she would hopefully be able to purchase a good rod. If she cannot afford a good rod, then treat this as incoherent rambling and ignore this portion. She just wished to try and avoid fishing up Ruberts twin at this stage thank you.

Assuming 3500 was enough to get a good rod, then she would look to strike a conversation with whoever was running the pedal boat stand. She figured she would need one to get out into the middle of the lake after all. And thats where her designation was. Unless she didn't have the money to get both a good rod and to rent a boat, then she would simply go and pick a fight with one of the fishermen instead to earn some money.

Oh and she would try and overhear any nearby fishermen to see if she could hear anything or get any hints about what she might be looking for. Any information she could gather, the better. Once all these objectives were met, she would set out pretty much immediately and look to cast her line once she was out in the middle.

[TDLR; go and buy a good rod and rent a boat to get out into the middle of the lake where she would begin fishing for whatever it was she was looking for. In the event she cannot afford a good rod, ignore that portion. In the event she cannot afford a good rod and a rental boat, then she would just go pick a fight with a random fisherman. Also try and overhear any rumours about what she might be looking for out in the middle of the lake]

KARP!
The karp is actually on my list of "'Mons I want as a Player"-list. But good luck trying to trade that thing with Evelyn. ^^;
But hey... Maybe if you let it out and let if 'splash' around on the ground pathetically for long enough, she might feel guilty or bad for it and decide to adopt it out of pity. 8D

EDIT:

I'll find a way to make her take it now if its the last thing I do, woe karp be upon thee

@Remram

To the surprise of no one when Asta turned down the prospect of fishing together and missing what was sure to be a show though neither know of it, which was still slightly disappointing to Steph but she shrugged it off, Steph bid her farewell and got comfortable. She didn't know how long she would be here, so might as well right?

.....
.....
.....

By Arceus was she glad she got comfortable.

The first magikarp she was pretty happy with just catching right away, Magikarp was obviously weak as piss but Steph loved Gyrados, so she was willing to put in the hard yards with who she now affectionately named Barra to profit later down the line. Though as she settled back down to continue fishing...well, she wasn't surprised by the second magikarp. Or the third. By the 15th it was uh...getting a bit out of hand she felt. On a whim, she decided to catch another three, just because she felt like it really, also it gave her an in character chance to see if catching multiple of a pokemon would pay out still.

If nothing else, she still knew Pokemon trades existed. Or she could offer it to someone as a gift? There were uses for extras anyway, and thats what mattered to her. And whatever she didnt catch, she would use as exp fodder for training up Glory. Because surely some exp was the upside here, even if it was barely even a level. 26 Magikarp worth of exp, plus whatever for catching them, was still exp she wouldn't have otherwise and all.

Though the real find amongst all this was when she thought she finally reeled in a Remoraid, whatever was on the end of this line putting up a hell of a fight....just to be smacked in the face by a wet rubber boot as she finally yanked it out of the water. Undettered despite this, she would add Rubert the Rubber boot to her inventory and fight on. Because by this point? It was getting personal. She would fish up this little critter if it was the last thing she did.

Never before had Freya seen such fire in the eyes of someone simply trying to fish.

And when she finally brought the little bastard to the surface, she unreleased true hell upon it. Struggle Bug spam from Glory. Truly, a fate worse than death. Though with that last roll of the pokeball, and the most satisfying ding Steph had ever heard in her damned in her life, she made sure to bring out what she now called Remy the Remoraid out, before turning to Freya.

"Thuhty-ONE thighnk yah...haow do Oy tyke a peecchuh weeth thiies thing boy the why?" Yes she was serious. Yes, it didn't matter if Freya was the most technological capable person on the planet. She would struggle to teach Steph how to do this. This was a canon event, and it would happen in every timeline eventually, one way or another. Though once that was sorted and the old man had received the first of the three challenge pictures, Steph would now wish to move on from the Harbour. Though not without a quick sweep of the area in the event she might find an uncommon pokemon, better safe than sorry right? And if she did encounter such an uncommon? Eh that was a future writers problem to deal with depending on the mon.

Assuming she didnt and she left the Harbour, she would make her way towards the Park, probably with Freya's guidance since she was the local, but it was probably also easy enough to find regardless. On her way there, she would attempt to quick catch a Machop by flexing at it. Yes, you didn't read that wrong. Yes, I had permission to try this. And yes, Steph would damn well try to bond with a Machop through flexing. It was a better idea than the arm wrestle originally thought out, though that could wait till later.

In the meantime also, Steph would attempt to train her team against some of the wild pokemon on her way to the Park before and after this attempt to get a machop. A rotation of Dusk, Steve, Barra and Remy. Since Dusk was the endgame boss for early game mobs, he would do most of the heavy lifting, though Steve did have the advantage of being in the air so would pick on those that couldn't fly. Ember spam from Dusk should do the trick anyway, with maybe Astonish used against any Espurrs who wanted to throw hands...or minds? Whatever it is they threw.
Oh right, I asked this in the discord but just in case anyone didnt see it after it got buried/isnt there, whoever wants a magikarp hit me up. I'll catch one for you, I have plenty to pick from XD

@Remram

Whether Steph had intelligence of some form or another would remain to be seen. For now, what mattered was the quest she was receiving. It wasn't exactly the most exciting thing known to man, but a challenge was a challenge, and Steph eagerly nodded along as such. She just had to find three pokemon? Sounded easy enough, especially the first hint. Not too many pokemon resembled a gun, so she had a few ideas as to what it immediately was. The second hint was a good one for location, but didn't really tell her much about what she was looking for but ok whatever. That last hint?

That drew a blank look from the girl. The fuck did you weren't fishing for a water type mean? On that note, why was she needing to fish in the sewers anyway? It didn't really seem like the type of place to go fishing, but whatever, she just shrugged off the blank look and accepted the gear handed to her.

"Sounds seemple enough, though if ya could be a leettle moah spaesoific abeow' thaht sewah one thaht would be grite yayh? am Oy maynt t' gao feeshin up a Trubbish aw Grimer aw somethin? cahn ya even feesh those?" And on another note, did it count as 'fishing' at that point? Steph was doubtful, but hey you know, she had already accepted the challenge. She would be damned if she backed down now. "oh roigh', and guess we should uh...exchuynge numbahs? sao Oy cahn taext ya the photaws and ooll?"

Which Steph still hadn't learned how to do that, but the rotom-phone had it handled. Probably. Maybe. Assuming she didnt somehow make it blow up. Never underestimated Steph in any regard after all. Either way, once numbers were exchanged, given, sung at or whatever it was kids these days did, she would bide the old man farewell and good luck with the rest of his day.

Turning back to her companions, she gestured to the fishing gear first, then to the pier second.

"dawnt suppose any of ya wahnna gao feeshin faw a biieh'? whoile Oy dawnt moind feeshin boy myself, naevah huhts t' hahve someone t' tohk t' tao pahss the toime yayh?" Only if they wanted to though, Steph wasn't going to force anyone to hang out with her. Yet. She had a feeling the green haired girl wouldn't be much interested, but could maybe hang around if Siggy wanted to. If they didnt want to, she would bid farewell and good luck to them, and offer to exchange contact info once more in case any of them wanted to talk or hang out at some later point if their paths crossed again.

She also would tell them she planned on heading down route 4 and if they accepted exchanging info, could organise heading down together if Steph finished what she wanted to do in the city before any of them wanted to leave. Once this was sorted out one way or another, Steph would, even if it was by herself or with her new friends, head to the pier and begin her search for what she believed to be a Remoraid via her fishing rod.

And once she fished up said Remoraid, her plan to fight it? Uh....use Steve and Glory to gang up on it. Her team didn't really suit fighting water types just yet, but Glory's struggle bug would at least do some decent damage, and Steve could just...pick it up and drop it away from the water. Or something. It would find fighting outside of water more difficult, in theory at least anyway. We don't question how a fish pokemon can fight on land.

[Get whoever wanted to give her their phone numbers number, then go and try and fish up a Remoraid, which the plan is to do a quick catch involving Glory and Steve, mostly with Glory looking to damage it with struggle bug and Steve just there for moral water gun support till it was within catchable range. After all, might as well catch whatever she fished up right?]

@Remram

Blunt? Steph? That was an understatement, and anyone who knew her knew it. Calling her blunt was like saying the earth was round.

"Noice t' maytcha Daryl, and ye thaht was praetty good innih'? nawt one t' toot moy own hohn ooll thaht often, buh' Oy reckawn naows one of the toimes Oy cahn. raylly gawt the ol nohggin gaowin ya knaow?" If anything, it proved that despite her behavior, there was some form of intelligence in there....somewhere. Somehow.

Listening to the old man, Steph also crossed her arms over her chest and nodded along, agreeing with everything he said about kids her age more interested in being absorbed by their phones than spending it outdoors. Seriously, some of em needed to touch grass. Soon. Right now even. Though at the mention of challenge, everyone present could feel a shift in intensity. Before, it was curiosity. Now it was her full attention.

"Haeh, Oy ineh' afride of anythin yah cahn thraow daown Dazza, if nawthin else Oy look fohwahd t' ih'. The hahdah the bettah ye? Nao use troyin t' be the baest if ya ineh' gawnna chohlenge yoahsself aftah ooll roigh'? Sao whahtcha gawt in moind?"

@Remram

"Asta and Seeggy huh? Plezshah t' maytcha, nymes Steph." Offering the two of them handshakes at the same time, because she has two hands, she can dual wield handshakes, she in fact wouldn't press Freya for an answer. For now. That time might be later, but the time now was for them to begin moving out to find this fisherman.

"Jayz, thuhtayn? Oy reckawn we hahd soimilah oolsao. Dunnao whoy he nayds sao many, buh' hy moah rivuls am Oy roigh'?" More competition was always better to Steph, meant more reasons to get stronger and improve. She didn't want to be caught lacking, especially since there was at least double what she had already met wondering around! And that was just between two groups, who knew how many people he had working on this. She would give a grin and hearty laugh now though as she continued. "Though sohry t' buhst yoah bubble, buh' oym the one whaws gawnna wiien ih' ooll. gawt someone Oy wahnt t' foind, figured the baest why was t' become the baest. hahppy t' be proven wrawng if yah cahn though! Hahahaha!"

Though watching the interaction between Siggy and Asta had her side-eyeing the two. A noble girl and her butler? Embarking on a quest to grow stronger together, for each others sakes? To be each others reasons for growing stronger? And he was just coolly admitting he couldn't live without her? Oh yeah, Steph was digging this. Steph shipped this. Steph was all for this. All of it.

Without a word, she would reach over and put a hand on Asta's shoulder, nod knowingly and approvingly, not uttering a single word. With her only further elaboration being a simple thumbs up. No words were uttered, only a silent 'go for it girl', perhaps even a 'slay queen', take your pick as to whatever version you wanted.

As they walked, Steph felt herself grow hungry again as they passed a few pubs, bars and food stalls. The food she had gotten before was plenty enough for a normal person, but lets be real, everyone knew Steph wasn't normal. Even Steph herself knew this. She would probably stop by some generic random food stalls and munch on some more food as they passed through looking for the fisherman, mouth stuffed with food as her neck shot in the direction Freya pointed.

Quickly scoffing whatever might remain, Steph would pipe up as they approached and were subsequently questioned by the man.

"G'die old mite, nymes Steph." Ah, the Steph greeting grin and handshake technique. Truly nothing seen before. "nawt frawm round heah, sao Oy was lookin faw some advoice on feeshin around thaese pahts. ya knaow wheah ahh good spawts, whaht soht of pokemawn ahh around, wheah Oy cahn foind some raeh cahtches, thaht sohta stuff, and Oy heahd ya a good bloke t' tohk t' abeow' thaht. coahss Oy steell nayd t' geh' a new rawd, laeft moine on the fahm bahck home in guylah haeh, buh' plaenty of good plyces t' geh' one round heah frawm whaht ive sayn."

Stephanie Irwin

@Remram

Acquiring the phone number, Steph was pretty happy before being openly assaulted in the street, nearly being taken off her feet by the near tackle. Good thing she had very good core strength, otherwise she probably would've been, and taken Freya out in the same instance in a near meaning to a total team wipeout.

"Oi, wahtch wheah ya goi-oh." Thinking at first it was just someone not watching where they were going, ironically something she was prone to doing but we don't talk about that, but realizing it was the universe not letting her go to the fisherman yet, Steph just grinned at the green haired gal.

"Oa hundred t' one? Praetty goods thaen eh?" She didn't really give herself that good of odds, nor was she much of a gambling...in that sense, but she was happy enough for the girl. "Though Oy could do weetheow' the keess yayh? yah oolraydy assaulted me, nao nayd t' add t' the chahges! huyhahha!"

Laughing as the girl was pried off of her, Steph realised Dusk was no longer on her shoulder, finding her partner had been absolutely floored during the 'tackle'. Seemed it normal type moves could hit ghosts, huh? At any rate, as the red-haired boy spoke, Steph bent down to pick up her partner, and after taking a moment to check he was ok, eyed the two of them off. Wait...was everyone here someone who worked with Kapoc?!

"shaell be roigh' mite, nao hahm nao foul yayh? shaes a leettle friendly, buh' bettah thahn nawt bein friendly ya knaow? oolsao nahh yayh, maeh' the quack eahlier, he wahsnt too grumpy, buh' ceht'nly a cawffay addeect. good bloke, weah buysicohly baest friends naow. " Crossing her arms over her chest, the girl nodded feverishly to her own delusional statements. "thahts who gyve me dusk heah aftah ooll. sao thaht mayns yohl ahh heah t' tyke on the gym chohlenge? oolsao chawmpy pokemawn? loike a truypeench?"

Steph wondered what the duo got as pokemon then, but didn't ask outloud as she kinda just...expected everyone to confirm what they got. Whether it be verbally or physically showing it. She would also ask the two if they wanted to go check out the fisherman together, but didn't make an effort to leave for it. Yet. Might as well stick around a little and talk with them yeah? They were already here after all, and Steph was also a little too friendly for her own good. In saying that, if they did want to go see the fisherman she wouldn't be against walking and talking, or if they didn't and left in this same post then she would too.
Stephanie Irwin

@Remram

"Yayh, maeh' hiiem eahlier tuh-die. dawnt knaow hiiem puhs'nally, theenk haes a totul quack if oym totohly honest, buh' a good bloke overohl Oy sie." Steph seemed to shrug off meeting a celebrity like that on her first day, after all she had come here to see him and whatnot so of course she had? She would then soon pull out her Rotom Phone, struggling to turn it on for a hot moment or two, before bringing up her Pokedex, still on the latest entry of the Metagross.

"Heah t' tyke on the laygue chohlenge and whahtnawt ya knaow? Gawt Dusk heah frawm hiiem as waell, loike Oy side good bloke." Scratching Dusk under the chin, she would listen to Jean as he spoke.

Steph was disappointed, but not surprised, when he said he didnt happen to have a spare Beldum on hand. But she brushed it off rather quickly, she hadn't expected him to after all. And his answers also confirmed to her that he wasn't from the region either; though she made sure to note down the information as where to find them.

Cold and snowy areas, which it seemed to be up north? If she didn't already have plans to head south, then she would almost certainly head north almost immediately. Something for later down the line perhaps.

Caves in inhospitable lands? Why did that info make Steph grin in a way that may concern anyone watching? Just me? Ok. Regardless, she would have to ask around to see if she could find a place that fit that kind of description at some point. Would give her more of a reason to jump headfirst into it, not that she really need to as lets be honest she would've anyway.

The only answer that seemed to draw a reaction out of her much more than a slightly disappointed look was the answer on her question about Cipher, an irritated click of her tongue before a loud, drawn out sigh. She didn't have high hopes on it, but she was hoping for...something at least. But fair enough, she didnt expect information like that to be found easily or even willingly given out. Especially so considering he didnt seem to be from around here, maybe she would be better off trying with the gym leaders then? She seemed to think heavily for a moment, snapping back to reality when she heard him speaking of an older man by the harbour.

She thinks she heard something about this before? Though the missing Snubbul was news to her, she noted them both down mentally anyway.

"Ye thighnks mite, sohry if Oy uh...saymed a leettle annooyd just naow. lawng storay, biieh' puhs'nal. thighnks faw taellin me whaht ya knaow, ill kayp ih' in moind whaen Oy gao huntin faw a beldum hopaefully soon enough. heahd somethin abeow' a feeshuhmahn, sao ceht'nly gawnna chyse thaht up. oh, roigh'." She seemed a little sheepish at first when she spoke, seemingly self aware of her visible annoyance just a moment ago. She wore her emotions out in the open for all to see, she knew this and didn't want him to feel bad about now being able to help out a bit more. She had plenty of time to find more information, plenty of other places to check. She was impatient, she just had to wait a lil longer. Though now she brought up her phone and began to fiddle through it, glancing up at him as she did.

"Wahnna exchuynge cawntahcts aw somethin? Mybee if we end up in the syme plyce aguyn we cahn mayt up aysier thaht why ya knaow? Wouldnt moind a remahtch whaen oym strawngah, mybee geeve a propah chohlenge at some point hahahha!" Regardless of his answer, she was ready to leave herself.

Had an older fisherman to talk to after all, plus she also wanted to do a few more things before leaving the city. She'd keep an eye out for that Snubbul also, wouldn't do to leave the poor little guy out by his lonesome nor let that poor girl stress out.

walking back to Freya now, you couldn't wipe the grin off her first no matter hard you tried, as she gave the girl a V with her fingers.

"Say thaht? Nawt bahd faw a fuhst toimah huh?" In perhaps the most shocking development, or maybe least shocking, yet came the announcement that that was Stephs first time in a trainer 'battle'. Did she count it as a battle? No, she still looked forward to her first 'true' fight. But as a glimpse as to what she could look forward to? It was a nice appetizer. She wasn't going to talk about how nerve wracking that was at all, nope. "Sayn plaenty of bahttles, naevah dun one befoah. spaecially nawt one loike thaht. anywhys, Oy heahd abeow' an old mite thahts around the hahboah thaht knaows wheah t' feesh up some raeh pokemawn. yah up t' tohk t' hiiem weeth me aw nahh? oolsao pparently a snubbul is meessin, moigh' wahnna kayp an eoy eow' faw thaht."

Steph wasn't fussed either way, there was no obligation for Freya to come with or do anything really. But she thought she might as well ask, and you know if the loud young lady from before wanted to talk or come with or whatever also, Steph wouldn't be against talking to her or letting her tag along. She didn't have any interest at the moment in seeking her out, but if she was still hanging around after she spoke to the old man Steph might hit her up. For now, regardless of Freya's answer, Steph would go to find the old man. He probably wouldn't be too far off, seeing as they were already at the Harbour, but at the same time Steph would keep an eye out for other Pokemon she hadn't seen yet. Or if there was a Machop hanging around the Harbour that was wild, would save her time heading back in if she was lucky enough to find and catch one of em away from the construction sites.

[Go find the old fisherman, keeping an eye out for any other Pokemon than whats known and/or a Machop to catch.]
