It's been a while since I touched the forum's source code. The code base is pretty large. It has numerous nary-traveled nooks that rarely see the light of day, and it's littered with corridors that are started and never finished, as if
@Ellri's construction gnomes simply lost interest. Frequently I'll follow some code, think "oh cool, we have this feature?", only for it to soon terminate in a gnomish comment: "TODO: finish this".*
I've been working on improving the Persistent World system to prepare for the new one.
Until now, there wasn't even a way to hide/unhide forums. The old PW forums are now hidden from the homepage, but you can still visit them directly if you have the link.
I'm also introducing a new staff role, Persistent World Mod, which of course will have privs in PW forums.
Ideally, the staff would be able to create/hide/edit forums themselves but it's tricky to build that sort of interface at the moment and I currently have to do it directly in the database.
* Whimsicalizing a situation with gnomes is always a useful coping mechanism. Damn gnomes!
