I don't think that's actually accurate. Gail Simone did a ton of character work with Oracle.

When the New 52 rolled around editorial wanted to undo all of that along with the character development Simone herself did on Birds of Prey. Simone's options were basically let this happen under someone else's watch.... or try and control the damage herself.

Personally, the better option probably would have been to leave the book in disgust and then when Babs book got panned, then ride a similar wave of sentiment for the old Barbara and have her get brought back with Wally West and the OG Superman...but it's hard to blame her for not knowing it was a possibility.

Not only that, but Killing Joke was never actually erased, which was easily viable for Simone to do if she was so adamant about it being so harmful in the grand scheme of Barbara's in-universe history. In Simone's origin issue, Batgirl #0, the story ends on the night in question when The Joker shows up to her doorstep. I don't think Simone really had much of an influence on the decision to turn Babs into Batgirl again, especially since she seemed to kinda not enjoy writing that book compared to how she wrote Barbara in the past.

In other news not related to superhero sex lives, I spent about two hours of my yesterday evening reading the first page of the IC thread for the first time. So far, you all are knocking it out of the park on these characters. I was moved, excited, anxious, and curious all at once about where your characters were all going, and each one of you earned the obligatory 'like' that I was reserving to confirm my status of having read it.

As I told Byrd in a private message, I had originally submitted the concept for UOU with a mixed feeling, since I wasn't sure making the game "Ultimate" was all that nessescary and that the One Universe concept would work on it's own. But I'm very glad I did, since it's led to some interesting new takes and directions to go off of. I was pretty jazzed to think of eventually having Bruce interact with a few people by the time I was done.

I'll get around to reading Page 2 at some point tonight, and continue that pace until I'm done. But well done, all of you.

Especially you. You know who you are.

Which is an odd name for Selina Kyle and/or potentially a Marvel character I'm going to introduce soon, but regardless.

Unfortunately, yes. But it's barely mentioned and all instances of it can be easily glanced over. Killing Joke is where it got super creepy and downright insulting to both characters.

My own complaint about Bruce Timm is his weird obsession with the Bruce/Barbara pairing, which reached a fever pitch in the Killing Joke animated film... *shudders*

That legitimately pissed me off and will never be something Timm can truly make up for. It's bad enough when writers try and shoehorn Bruce moving in on a character like Lois (points to Andy there, I was just fucking around), but to go after your best friend's daughter... who is also kind of your own surrogate daughter and one of the primary loves of your surrogate son's life, at the very least? Who's also like, twenty years younger than you? It was enough to make me forget the horrendous love affair that Arkham Knight tried to pull between Tim and Babs, all because they didn't realize the Robin that Batgirl traditionally has the hots for is Dick. Fuck you, people who write these stupid slash-fictions.

It's not because of lazy characterization or a need to glorify Batman's place as a superhero by having him kick a God in the teeth... it's because neither one of them can handle how much sex the other one is elbowing in on! Bruce Timm always was a bit of an uneven writer, honestly. Without Dini it became all the more apparent that he leant on Batman’s superpower of making everyone in the same room as him suddenly stupid and incompetent whilst every woman simply wanted him without significant cause. His relationships in Justice League were just horrid and very poorly written.

Saying that a woman (hell, anyone) in the DCU wouldn't want at least one crack at the Batcave is like saying "Ugh, 90's Brad Pitt mixed with the money of current Bill Gates. Go away. Shoo."

Not that I mind people swooning over Superman aswell, given that they look practically identical.

Ugh. That's something I genuinely hated about the DCAU. The blatant favoritism towards the Bat-family was bad enough in fight scenes, but then Bruce also has to become Mr. Steal-Yo-Girl when it comes to the most famous romance in the entire genre. Like there weren't enough ladies in the series hankerin' for a chance to slide down the Bat-Pole.

I always liked having Lana around as Clark's inner city confidant prior to him revealing his identity to Lois, ala Superman TAS. But Lois is one of the best supporting characters in comics, in my opinion.

Infact, UOU Clark better watch out. I could have her see the benefits of having a billionaire schizophrenic martial artist vigilante to come home to...
