@CloseEnough Ugh, that's awful! Jump back in when you can, we don't have to drop you :) Maybe we should open this up for applications, though?

Mallory practically curled into a ball as she walked backwards, hoping to put distance between her in the succubus. She caught the eye of the dragon tending the bar, and she smiled weakly, attempting to regain some of her former confidence. She wasn't usually this shy of a person -- most of the time, she'd let people have it.

But she didn't usually go to bars for monsters either. As much as she knew she belonged here, a sinking feeling told her to run away, all the way back to the dig sites in Egypt and to never returned. Breathing in air greedily, she noticed a man in the corner gazing at her, and a dark shudder went down in her spine. Details about him came to view, letters practically floating in front of his face.

Destined for hell.
Fated to die on the 13th of May.
Human.

The stranger raised a drink at her, his thin face contorting as he got out of his seat, brandishing his weapon. Mallory gulped, and dashed behind the bar, hiding at the feet of the dragon.

"It's a slayer!" Mallory hissed, shifting back into her human form. "Please don't let him fucking kill us all! Can't you breathe fire on him or something?"
Are you still accepting? This looks super interesting :)
Mara Scelus

Not quite yet satisfied with the professor’s explanation, Mara nodded anyways, watching with fascination as the Poke Ball finished coming into existence. Hesitating for a moment, Mara reasoned that it had to be incredibly hot from being fused together…

And she grabbed it anyways, hardly able to believe that it really was real!

Peering at the Poke Ball, she tapped it lightly, expecting it to vanish into smoke. Nothing of the sort happened, and blue letters began to soar across the screen.

PLEASE TAKE YOUR POKé BALL. GOOD LUCK!

Mara’s eyes widened at a particular phrase, even as it quickly changed. The Gates…. of….Hell?

”Professor, um… What does the computer mean when it says my Pokemon contains the gates of hell?” Mara asked, her purple-black hair swishing as she switched from peering at the screen, the professor, and her pokemon.

There had to be some sort of logical explanation, after all. However, then she recalled the odd tone the professor had gotten when he announced she got an Espurr.

Maybe this place is haunted…. She glanced around again at the spinning pistols and bit her lip, before breaking out into a grin.

If my pokemon contains the gates of hell, that’s so cool! Her eyes closing slightly, she couldn’t help but grin even wider, and to confirm that the poke ball indeed did contain her pokemon, she threw it out, releasing Kira.

The adorable Espurr appeared, and Mara grinned, letting Kira sit on her shoulder so that way everyone would be at eye level with the restrain pokemon.
After the others had gotten their pokemon, the professor turned to them, and started giving instructions about the pokedex. Mara instantly began flipping through it, attempting to find each and every function it had…

Wait, did he say something? Mara turned dark red, attempting to focus on the professor when everything around her was so interesting!

"I know this isn’t all that great, but I’d ask that you stick to my tech. No Ficus Tech. I know you wouldn’t do that, though!”

Seems like someone is bitter…

”I can’t imagine anything more amazing than this, professor!” Mara said earnestly, once again admiring the random contraptions around the room.”This place is like a fairy castle…”

The professor went on to explain all of the grant money, but Mara had once again zoned out, fiddling with the pokedex more and more. She only snapped back to reality when Dogwood handed her a poke ball, explaining the science behind it briefly.

“And I think that about covers it! Anything to ask me before you head out?”

Mara paused, glancing around at her fellow trainers. For a moment, she pondered if she should allow them to ask questions first, but she didn’t care for social etiquette.

”Which way is the best way to leave town? Not best as in best for new trainers, but best for seeing amazing things…”

So what direction do we wanna go with this guys? :)
Mallory would've blushed, had any blood remained in her body. Technically speaking, she didn't really have a body. No one knew what was underneath the cloak of a Kumakatok -- and that included her. For all she knew, she was made entirely out of swiss cheese. She'd never seen her own face, and instead, could only see the deep, gaping void of darkness. On the bright side, she had knuckles of steel from years of rapping onto doors. She twitched slightly, feeling the familiar itch in her fingers.

"Sorry, what was that?" Mallory muttered to the kindly stranger. The need to knock on the door of someone fated to die grew stronger and stronger, but it didn't completely distract her. Almost like reading a book, tiny bits of information about the stranger became apparent to her.

For starters, the stranger had already died, and reeked of vampire. Mallory crinkled her nose inadvertently, feeling repulsed almost by the undead creature. She was a purist at heart -- things that die should stay dead. Fate ruled the universe. Those who believed in free will and being able to advert destiny were simply kidding themselves.

"Thanks for the drink," Mallory commented, unaware as to whether or not the vampire had responded. She raised the glass to her lips and walked over to the door of the bar, almost trapped within a trance. Rapping lightly on the door frame thrice, she felt the primal need subside and she relaxed her shoulders.

That's the deadman walking, Mallory realized, glancing at the person fated to die. She walked aimlessly forward, hardly even noticing when she collided with a succubus, spilling the gifted drink everywhere. Of course, none of it got on her. The drops of alcohol fell through her, hitting the floor.

"Shit. I'm sorry."

After Yasha’s explanation, Mara’s attention was grabbed by the professor. She hadn’t even noticed that she forgot to introduce herself—luckily, Rowan managed to do that for her. She couldn’t help but grin with excitement as the door swung open and a pile of kids fell out.

These kids aren’t the professor…. right? She pondered. She couldn’t recall ever meeting the professor before. For all she knew, the squealing heap could indeed be the esteemed Professor Dogwood. Perplexed, she peered towards the door, only to jump back when a man with violet hair appeared, weighed down almost by pens, poke balls, and nails.

"Come on in, the terminal's up and running.”

Mara looked around with wonder and amazement at the factory like lab. She couldn’t help but run her hands over the pipes, imagining what each and every one of them did. Almost dizzy with fascination, she didn’t notice as Professor Dogwood led the others further into the lab.

Transfixed by a pipe structure, Mara was incredibly tempted to fiddle with the various levels and switches.

”Professor! What does this do, exactly….? Professor?”

Embarrassment filled her face as she realized that everyone had gone on without her. Sending another curious gaze towards the contraptions, she ran after the others, and managed to catch up just in time. The mauve room was filled with some sort of marvelous machine, and instantly, Mara wanted to analyze it and understand exactly how it worked.

Somehow, she knew, it would produce a pokemon…. A childish thought crossed her mind that perhaps it created the pokemon, rather than simply placing it inside of a poke ball. The professor motioned towards Mara, indicating the contraption as he hoisted up a mechanical keyboard.

It was time…. finally….

Mara looked at the screen carefully, wondering for a moment what exactly she was accepting. It didn’t matter though — no one ever bothered with the terms and conditions. Mara eagerly pressed her thumb onto the screen, watching as the lasers struggled to form words on the screen.

Once again, Mara resisted the urge to pester the professor with how exactly the lasers worked. Biting her lip, she rolled her eyes a bit at the height, before adjusting it to the former number.

Honestly, not every girl is freakishly short…

She then nodded at the weight, as it appeared to read 145 pounds. She figured the estimation to be correct, and once again, she didn’t think it would matter if it was too wrong. It’s not like they’ll arrest me for lying about my weight… They’d have to arrest half of the female trainers out there!

Pressing the button to confirm her choices, Mara watched with trepidation as a poke ball began to form almost beneath the screen.
”How do pokemon even fit inside a poke ball?” Mara wondered around. ”Is it like… quantum things or something?”

The poke ball became more and more concrete, and in seconds, the standard poke ball sat where nothing had previously existed. Mara looked on with awe as the white button pulsed a dark pink, and on the screen, the identity of the pokemon within it was revealed.

YOUR POKÉMON IS... ESPURR

[WILL YOU GIVE ESPURR A NAME?]

Mara paused. She’d never considered the possibility of giving her pokemon a name. All of the trainers she had ever met had simply called their pokemon by its designated name… But that’s no different than someone calling me human… Mara hesitated, before recalling a name she’d seen once in a book.

Kira. She hadn’t the faintest idea what it meant, but it sounded cool enough. Nearly as cool as the eyes of an espurr.
... [need to double posts to get mentions working]

@Whimsley I did not consider the native ways of measuring length when writing my height, haha...

@Morose@hatakekuro Oh, by the way, I wanted to ask. I'm pretty sure we don't HAVE to if you don't want to, but I'd like us to possibly have ourselves be a group that travels together. So, in the case that you two agree, would you have any advice on how to get this suggestion across to your characters properly so it'll possibly make sense in-character?

I'm down for that. :) Mara pretty much will agree no matter how it's phrased.
