The Office

Premise

After the release of the documentary on Dunder Mifflin Scranton, sales for the paper company went through the roof. People felt a sense of connection to the struggles and triumphs of the company, with some claiming it to be along the lines of the human spirit. It allowed Dunder Mifflin to open up a new branch in New Castle, Pennsylvania.

Under the direction of regional manager Aidan Ferguson, the small branch grew largely in proportion and size. For five years, it was the jewel of Dunder Mifflin, until the Scranton branch received New Castle's best salesman in a transfer. The New Castle branch is now modestly successful, despite some high rates of employee turnover over the past three years.

Many who apply to the branch are looking for a job, and nothing more. Some get just that. Others? They turn the dull life of selling paper into a day filled with pranks and wasting time in any way they possibly could. It's become an office that Michael Scott would have been proud of, an office that some have fallen in love inside.

What will be your Dunder Mifflin story?

Overview

This RP is high casual and character-driven slice of life, following the lives of ordinary office workers. Based off of the popular show the Office, this RP attempts to focus in on human interaction and conflicts that may arise. Players can RP a variety of different positions, with random events occurring in the office, and causing characters to need to adapt.

For the most part, the plot is up for you to create. I ask that there be no existing office romances to begin with, in order to get a more authentic feel and the dramatic build up in interactions. The possibilities for what can happen are without end, yet if things seem to be dying down, a gentle nudge from the GM may be in order.

Lastly, I expect a lot in my RPers. If you aren't able to be committed to this RP, that's fine. We aren't going to be able to join every RP on the site. I expect at least a post a week, decent spelling and grammar, and at least two decent paragraphs. If you want to check out my GMing style, please go look at my other RP - Abandoned Hope - that has nearly hit 100 IC posts and continues to go strong.

Rules
  • This RP is high-casual, so expect a decent length
  • You need to post at least once every 7 days, otherwise your character may be killed off
  • No characters are safe. Injury and harm can come to them, and death in the most extreme scenarios (due to the style of this RP, this won't happen often)
  • GM's word is law. I hate conflict, don't start any and we'll get along just fine.
  • No drama in the OOC, or you’ll be kicked out
  • Use decent spelling and grammar
  • You must use the provided character sheet
  • You have to get GM approval on your character sheet before placing it in the Characters Tab. You must also complete the relations sheet before you can post.
  • You may play up to two characters, a third with GM permission.
  • Interns can only be played by those with more than one character
  • Romance is allowed, but please stay PG-13.
  • This RP is realistic. Keep it that way. If you do something extreme like fire a gun in the office, expect your character to be fired.
  • Must be two posts before you can post again
  • Each character will need a unique color coding. Color codes may be rejected if deemed not visible/legible.
  • Swearing is alright in the IC--limit it in the OOC.
  • Contact the GM by PM if you are unable to post, and we can discuss options. You must do this by day 5 on your post counter.
  • To show that you have read the rules, in your character sheet under "extra information" please include a link to a post you made in a previous RP.

Failure to comply to these rules can and will result in removal from the RP.

Character Positions

The following are the character positions available for play. Make sure that your character's history matches their position. A manager would need a college degree in most cases, a head of sales would need experience in sales. Department heads are likely going to have been with the company for ages, or went to a rather prestigious school. Lastly, internships are giving to high school junior and seniors during the summer only. If you choose to portray an intern, you'll have to RP one other full time staff member.

I've left warehouse roles off of here, mostly because I feel it would give an isolating experience to the RPer. Contact me if you're very keen on playing warehouse and we can work something out.

If some of these roles are unfilled, they'll be filled by NPCs. Character death will be rather rare, given the setting for the RP. It's more likely that characters could be offered opportunities at other companies or be transferred. You are able to RP two characters, three with special permission from the GM.

  • Regional Manager - (reserved by GM)
  • Assistant to the Regional Manager - this position will be assigned by the GM and is in addition to one of the below positions
  • Receptionist -
  • Head of Sales -
  • Salesman -
  • Salesman -
  • Salesman -
  • Head of Accounting -
  • Accountant -
  • Accountant -
  • Customer Service Representative -
  • Human Resources Representative -
  • Intern - can only be RPed by those RPing at least 2 characters
  • Intern - can only be RPed by those RPing at least 2 characters

Sheets

Per the rules, you must use the provided sheets below. You'll need to pick your own unique color to use, as this'll be your dialogue color. Once approved by the GM, you can move your character sheet over to the Characters Tab and begin work on the relations sheet. Some of you who have been working at Dunder Mifflin for years likely have some sort of relationship, whether friends or enemies. Newer employees to the company might only know those within their department. Before you can post in the IC, however, your relation sheet must be completed and approved by the GM.

@Sohtem Looking forward to a heartbreaking death from Elizabeth!
@Sohtem Looks good! :) You can move her over.

I'm changing the cap on characters for everyone to 3. If I feel you're struggling with just 1 or 2 characters, however, I reserve the right to tell you to hang on to the third character. Just a general notice.
@Sohtem Don't worry too much about it. :) Number 2 Grant Road, hun.
@Sohtem You’re missing the personality paragraph.
For place of residency—do you want an apartment for her or a house?

Otherwise, things look good :)

Scarleth "Ruby Red" Pevensey

Scarleth nodded curtly, processing the information. It was what she expected, of course, but she couldn't have been more pleased. From the description, she doubted that an AI had been tasked with deciding when to set off the bombs. That was a choice made by a sentient being. As the expression went, human error already weakened the system. A being was far easier to exploit than a machine, making her eventual escape all the more possible. She smiled, her face the textbook definition of gorgeous, while her soul was the definition of malevolent.

Scarleth raised an eyebrow. As much as she would have loved to crush a few skulls, it wasn't the time. Now was the time to act subdued and compliant, to be the loyal bitch that Mr. White needed. Already mourning the missed opportunity to isolate Hardying from the other guards, and then instruct her fellow inmates to each grab a limb and pull in various directions, Scarleth followed White, a vacant expression on her face. To express emotion was to allow the enemy to see you. To be seen was to be vulnerable. To be vulnerable was to be destroyed.

Glancing towards the opposite end of the hall, Scarleth took in the scene as twelve guards were pummeled thoroughly, the prisoners trampling them. Elated, it was all Scarleth could do to not go in and join the other rioters. Some violence was in order. She craved it. The feeling of blood, of knowing that she had taken a life. It was like she became a god, deciding who was worthy of life.

"Yes, sir," Scarleth replied to Mr. White, tearing her gaze away, and following him still. In her mind, she could see herself take Mr. White hostage, demanding the controls to the bombs. Once obtaining them, she would execute her fellow prisoners -- perhaps not the more humorous ones, but certainly Callum -- and use one of the ships to escape. Scarleth deduced that the Federation wouldn't give their undercover group a ship easily tracked.

However, now was not the time. There were too many flaws in the plan, too many holes. She would find her escape later. For now, it was time to comply. She continued to walk forward, only for a Vaxir to approach her, roaring. The prisoner charged at her, and in the blink of an eye, it found itself sprawled on the ground. Scarleth had flipped it effortlessly, slamming it down, and walking over it as she continued on her way.

Scarleth didn't bat an eye.

Jade Cornish

Location: Town Center
Interacting With: Zachary Carpenter @BlueSky44, Darren Andrews @Pundii, Liam Matthews @Pundii, Daniyal Lohi @Witch Cat

Jade raised an eyebrow. She'd dealt with plenty of sadistic fucks who liked to take trophies. She was fairly certain her father was one of them. But hearts? That was moving onto an entirely new level of weird. "Maybe this is the reason the FBI sticks with voter fraud," Jade sighed. "Honestly, you lot are off your bloody rockers." Things had been so much more simpler and straightforward in England. No one was proposing theories that sounded like they belonged in a Young Adult Fantasy novel.

"Plenty of people rip people apart," Jade retorted, glancing over at Zachary. "Jack the Ripper didn't make his name for poisoning people. And dismembering a victim is an excellent manner for body disposal out in the woods."

Pulling out the photograph of the mayor's hand, Jade frowned. The mayor didn't have any sort of tattoos, being rather conservative and preaching constantly about traditional family values. A tattoo would have been evidence of hypocrisy. Furthermore, she remembered him waving his fat little hands around. There wasn't a burn mark. "What kind of animal burns letters into people's hands?" Jade scoffed. "A person did it--perhaps it was Vivian, as part of her grand mental breakdown that just happened..."

However, she lost her train of thought. An intense white light flashed out of the corner of her eye, and instinct kicked in. She grabbed Zachary and Darren, dragging and pulling them down to the ground. "Bomb!" Jade cried, hoping others around them would get down. The light passed, and after deeming it was safe, Jade rose to her feet.

Nothing had happened.

Scowling, Jade walked towards the source, seeing a reporter and a young kid standing around. Both of them, she recalled, would need to be interrogated about what they'd seen with Vivian. "What the bloody hell was that?" Jade asked pointedly, looking at Liam, the adult. "You think that's funny now, do you? After what everyone just went through?"

Howard Brighton

Location: Forgotten Relics - The Shopping District ---> Town Center
Interacting With: Paramedics

Howard waved his customer out of the shop, letting out a content sigh. Once again, he was entirely alone, without anyone to bother him. Truthfully, his shop merely allowed him to write off purchasing new texts as a business expense. Any day now, a copy of the Egyptian Book of the Dead would arrive, and it would be tax deductible. Grinning, Howard could have gone for some scotch, before his bubble of happiness burst.

His customer had left behind a bag. Social custom would dictate that he return it to her. Striding over to it, he picked it up gingerly, setting it down on the counter. He searched through it, finding the standard belongings--wallet, credit card, cash, driver's license. However, a rod like instrument protruded slightly, despite being hidden from sight. Feeling around in the bag, Howard managed to open up the small compartment, and found his hands clamped around a blade. Wincing as it cut into his flesh, Howard pulled it out of the bag, his hand starting to bleed.

Eyeing the fresh blood on the blade, Howard swore. Some of it wasn't his. And with his now open wound, infection seemed imminent. "Looks like a shopping trip is in order," Howard grimaced, tucking the blade away underneath the counter. It'd be worth examination later. Gingerly flexing his fingers, Howard left the store, glancing around. The wail of an ambulance continued to penetrate the air, and with a shrug, he headed in its direction, entering Town Center.

Hopefully, he wouldn't catch anything from that blade. The last thing he needed was to catch something ridiculous like West Nile Virus. Approaching Town Center, he waved at the frantic paramedics with his bleeding hand. One of the nurses, he could have sworn, had a bit of a nervous breakdown at the sight of him. Glancing around quickly, he realized that they must have had their work cut out for them.

"Excuse me, but I'm afraid I acquired an infection of some sorts!" Howard called out, strolling over towards the paramedics. "I have term papers to grade, so death would be a bit inconvenient...I'm sure you understand." He forced a bit of a laugh, shaking his head. "It's not like we can just reschedule it, though? Death waits for no man."

Edwina Fairfax

Location: A Rundown Motel; New York City
Interacting With: @Din Nyt

Edwina nodded, rising from the bed cautiously. Nyt had grabbed her weapon, and Eddie walked over towards the door. "Be there in a sec!" she called out. "I was just having lots of sex!" Her voice cracked slightly, and Eddie opened up the door. Hopefully, whoever was there would feel as uncomfortable as she did, making it easier for Nyt to take them down. They'd been through the same drill multiple times before.

In a blink of an eye, not only was a woman dressed like a cheetah on top of her, but so was Nyt. "Guys...This isn't the right time for a threesome..." Eddie joked, rolling out from underneath the cheetah-like woman. The woman snarled at them practically, held helpless by Nyt's blade.

Edwina shut the door, and closed her eyes. She projected the image of her, Nyt, and the strange woman leaving the room, walking down the hall, and heading towards the elevators for reception. Her brain came under strain as Edwina then had them exiting the elevator, getting into a car, and driving away. Breaking the illusion, Edwina gasped for air.

"There, bought us some time," she said weakly. "Let's have a chat with our new friend, shall we?"
