Jesus christ! That's a lot of spam!
@Tarquin
Boycott the RP, and if they question you leaving, tell them.

Personally I hate WIP char sheets. Just write them up and then post them. Seeing them always feels like the person is setting up grounds to argue if they get declined or the RP closes entries before they finish.
A friend told me about this group and I'm interested to join after reading everything, so I was wondering if I can still join?

Yeah. Got a spot left. Firebenders are full, but the others are free. :)
Relationships.

When you're trying to get into one and I get told that I'm the type of guy that people would rather be friends with than date, or they start dating some random person they just met. Fucken annoying as hell as it happens all the fucken time. Even when you're nice to them, help them out, and are there for them when things are bad.

*Sigh* So what is your suggestion? If the reCAPTCHA tests do not work, if having more mods not solve it, WHAT DOES? Surely the answer shouldn't be nothing. I mean, who really wants to deal with this EVERY SINGLE DAY/NIGHT? There has to be some kind of solution...

Edit: And like Legend said... reCAPTCHA tests are supposed to block bots from getting in. The only way these spam bots could've possibly get in, is via someone logging them inside.

I don't have a suggestion unfortunately. Security isn't my speciality so I can't comment on what would be the best outcome.

Spam is really treated like a virus or bacteria. You always need better meds as years go on because the old ones will become obsolete. The system we had in place worked for a while so it did SOMETHING, but the bots found a way around it and that hole now needs to be plugged.

Without significant technological prowess, it would not be simple to bypass Google's Captcha service.

Agreed, but there are back door ways to get around such issues.

I remember a couple years back vBulliten forums had a serious security issue when it was discovered that a bot could create an account and trick the site into giving it Admin privileges. I remember because a few sites I were signed up to suddenly had new admins and no one knew who they were.

If none of those ideas can help solve the problem, then WHAT can? Simply closing the site to a permanent lockdown, unable to allow any new members in? That would suck if it were the case.

I suppose that should be the answer. If you can at least check the original location, that will still be beneficial regardless.

Or if anything, have a Moderator that is up at around this time. Because I've been noticing, that around 6 - 7 PM PST, is when the bots start to come into play. At the same time, no other moderator happens to be up here at said time as well. If we can have a moderator be at this time, perhaps it can discourage the person from spamming the guild and force him/her to leave us alone.

The number of mods wont matter. The worse I have ever seen was a site that created a new account every minute. No human can keep up with that. What you have to remember is these are bots, not people. They follow a random program to create accounts and post up links. I think you might be mixed up on what's happening.

Easiest way to explain what is going on is if we think of a Guy that hires a bunch of kids every night to egg a house. You can stop one lot but the next night a new lot will come by. You can scream at the kids but the Guy is just sitting at home watching TV.

Edit: and why I posted this on my phone with terrible short sentances is anyone's guess when I'm sitting in front of a PC. >.>

Which brings me to my next question. Could we trace one of those accounts BACK to the original user? Then again, if he's using one of these "hacks", he/she could've changed the IP number of each account, making it difficult for one to find the source.

Again, if there's any chance that one could contact google (or the police, idk) and ask for their help, MAYBE something can be done. "MAYBE". Not saying it will, just hoping.

That would be through IPs, but if the individual was using a proxy I wont make a difference.

As for contacting anyone, there's no one really. that's why spam is always a problem. Google provides a search engine, not a policing service.
