Since I'm new here and it's easier for me to recognize all the differences because of that, I've got a chunk to drop here.

Somewhere I read that GOOD writing consists of using words that are readable. Not over the top words, where you're scraping the synonym barrel for the most unused, unappreciated, unheard-of word to toss in your roleplay. I get it. You want to sound intelligent, but just use proper grammar and don't repeat the word "softly" for your every adjective. A good roleplay is one you can read and be ABSORBED into. Googling ten words a paragraph is not immersive.

I can agree with this. If someone is a good writer they shouldn't just pluck words out of the dictionary but use unique words that can help emphasize the scene.

In one of my roleplays I used this line, "Their minacious laugh is more than enough confirmation".

While the word may not be known in that simple line, if you read the entire scene you would already have a vibe for the scene. So even without looking up in the dictionary you will be able to gauge the approximate meaning. But I also used it once, not 10 times because it sounds cool.

Your first RP character

Ergh... thank God I can't remember the name but my first character was pretty bad.

The RP was a post apocalyptic world, similar to fallout and my character was caught in a subway station that got infected with radiation. Due to this he was scarred and had to make an IV cable to get blood transfussions off others cause he was dying of radiation poisoning.

I dunno what I was thinking, but it was not a good character. :\

RPG on Mobile?

Mahz did begin development on a mobile version of the site but rolled back the changes after he encountered some issues with various phones and browsers. He does plan to look at it in the future but it's not a priority.

Discord and The Guild/RPing

Before Discord I used Skype.
Before Skype I used Raidcall.
Before Raidcall I used MSN Messenger.

During those times I was still on forums and still posting for whatever reason was needed. As stated above Discord is another tool that can be used to aid in the production of a post and similar chats are out there which do the exact same thing. Chatzy, Pirate/Titanpad Chat, and even Google Docs' chat are all services that can be used for the same reason and have been used for years.

So what makes discord different? It comes down to its ease of use (compared to website chats), the attractiveness of the app itself (it has a desktop and mobile app that other chats don't have), and it also protects your identity (unlike Skype). In summary it is a quality app.

So looking at the statement "Discord draws people away from the site, therefore it is bad!", I do have to wonder...
What is this statement referring to? Does it mean that there is less OOC chatter? If that is the case then perhaps we need to evaluate the situation from a different angle and ask whether the number of posts in IC have increased due to the chat's introduction. It makes sense if you can transfer information accords to others quicker and easier.

Whatever the case and as I said before, I previously used Raidcall (all hail the Russian programmers) and our group of friends from when I was roleplaying back in 2013/2014 had no problems or issues with a chat killing off site activity. I do believethat this is a null value debate and it is mostly because people will simply gravitate to the form of communication that they feel comfortable with.
