Jason listened as everyone's else decided the best course of action and talked about their abilities.

" Pretty solid group, I think. And understandable, " he added in response to the final speaker. " But given our associate's ability, I'm not particularly worried. I'm slightly notorious already, I expect. I actually wouldn't mind giving a demonstration after we're done here. Assuming we have something we don't mind having broken, " Jason added with a slight chuckle.

Moving his chair closer to Murdock, Jason tapped the back of the chair he was sitting in. " Now, friend, I think it's pretty obvious you're going to sit here and enjoy yourself. You get to live! Kinda. At least there's that. Many others don't get that benefit. Look at the Slaughterhouse Nine. Jack Slash probably would have tortured you to death. The Siberian would've ate you alive. The Endbringers, too, really. Or that...I can never remember her name. Stealing souls or some shit....Glaistig Uaine, I think she called herself. Heard she killed Gray Boy. We're letting you live, just without the ability to harm us. Isn't that nice of us? Jason said calmly.

Maybe that would help Chatterbox a bit. Maybe it made no difference. But it was fun, at least, since Jason couldn't just beat him into a smear somewhere.

I'll reiterate my thoughts from before, even though this doesn't apply quite as directly to me.

I feel a slightly shorter collaboration would be beneficial. Cover the key points needed, and then enter the time skip. I see it as being more intriguing to treat the colab as a kind of summary of the event, which still covers everything needed in it.

Just my two cents. Y'all do what you see fit.

Techster nodded at her explanation. It was completely reasonable to hold doubt when the entire court proceedings had been covered in lies on the other side.

"Well, given a series of events I created a timeline. I was already interested in you given the court case. I delved a little further, creating that timeline, and took the oddities and put them together. Looking-Glass didn't appear until after your hospital stays and the more unfortunate events in the recent past. Plus you just look like a kid who wants to be a hero. That's a gut feeling, though. I could be entirely wrong, of course," he explained quietly. "It just makes logical sense to me, though. I know your age, your history, and the details of your current circumstances. Most else is deductive work from that information."

He put this device away, turning it off as he did so, before continuing. "I don't expect you to trust me, really, and that's okay. I'll prove myself to you in time. But you say you're in my debt. I don't see it that way, but that look in your eyes tells me you're going to stick to that. So, how about an offer, under the assumption that I'm right. I haven't made a public debut yet. No one knows I exist outside of my normal name and identity. Besides you and my parents and some of the bigwigs in the City. How would you feel about teaming up? I can help make your... creations? I think they're creations. Whatever they are, anyways, I could try and help make them more potent. More versatile. It would give me things to do, to occupy myself and further help you and others."

A hand went through his hair. "You don't have to accept, for the record. It's just an idea. You could think on it and then decide, or just decline now. Either way, I'll be covering those little points I found so no one else can hope to figure out half of what I have. And everything I've said since I've shown up here stays between us. I promise that."

Alex's phone buzzed. Alex! My dress won't fit. I'm fat! I don't wanna go. Help!

Alex looked at her phone, shooting a quick text back to her friend while she waited for a response from the mystery Epic.
  • You sure you put it on the right way, Rox? I'm a little busy trying to sort out a...problem. I can't pop in like normal.
  • Um...Oops. Hehe. Sorry.
  • Not like that, Rox! You turn the dress around and try again?
  • I did! It won't fit over my fat boobs!
  • Wrong way, Rox. Meant to go from the bottom to the top. Like men.
  • Like what?
  • Men, Rox. Like, they work their way up, then back down. That's a horrible metaphor. Just pull it up, not down. The opposite of what you'll be doing later haha
  • *blush emoji* Don't you start with kissing?
  • Sure. But kisses can start anywhere. Like, say, the inner thigh. Hint hint.
  • Eep
  • *Wink emoji*
  • Nooooo
  • Yessssss. Did the dress fit this time?
  • I'll try now. Come by when you're done with your person.
  • ... Way this is going, I'm going to be a long while.
  • Then use your trick and hurry him up. That one that you use to finish off
  • I toldja Rox, not that kind of thing. I'm on duty.
  • Oohhh
  • Yeah. So go have fun on your date. I'll catch up tomorrow. You'll need to text me when he's gone
  • Ok

Alex sighed, reading the lastest messages from the mystery lady.

"I think we can agree to disagree on petty crimes always leading to bigger crimes. There are always exceptions to every rule. You're smart, I'm sure you already know that," she replied slowly. "And yeah, the City has it's problems. That's why Heroes like myself do everything we can to work on it. The High night not be perfect, but they do more than you might have realized. Venom protects the City from plague and disease. Island keeps structures and roads together no matter what destroys them. Electric runs the power, so we always have power. Maybe you haven't heard of Eclipse. I was still a kid when he showed up in the City. If it hasn't been for the High, this City would be a crater, and he'd have continued through the rest of the planet."

She paused again. "Freaks aren't always bad, you know. As for your other point, if you actively worked with me and some others we could more easily stop the threats that appear. It would also help keep Heroes off your back for dealing with the smaller crap."

She waved a hand. "We get powers. As far as I see it, it's up to people like you and I to fix this bullshit. Because power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Mind that line, because anyone can travel down that road without realizing it."

I'll have a reply soon. Working on a little thing with Reg to interject into the conversation.

Alex read the words, still mildly impressed with the woman's abilities.

"I'll answer that in parts, to try and make more sense. But first I just want to say I'm being pretty damn honorable right now. They don't call me the Traveling Trickster for nothing. Or impish, in my terms," she said with a slight laugh.

"So point one, killing the bad guys. Pretty common thing around the world. I don't even object, personally, unless it's minor crimes. No need to kill someone trying to make ends meet in a relatively nonviolent way." She paused, her face darkening momentarily. "I'll tell you something I've never told anyone. Not even my best friend. Not even my parents, not that they'd care much anyways. Without going into too many personally details, I was abducted when I was young. The incidents that followed left me deaf, and granted me my powers. I escaped, they didn't get their ransom, and my parents were... Mildly difficult. Those men are dead, and they have been for years."

Alex left the statement hang for a moment. "Common Joe stealing doesn't deserve death, unless he's hurting or killing to get away with it. I hope my point is getting across? Even the High have their limit. Eventually they step in, and an Epic is dead for being a major problem."

She shrugged visibly before continuing. "Comet is a fool, but his heart is in the right place. Wanton murder is crazy to him, and to most. As for this Nudd....I wonder if Nudd was the reason for several disappearances in the last several days. He mentioned they were old enemies, Nudd having killed Comet's childhood love before going on a psychotic rampage. He'd been given assistance by the High Venom and one of her subjects going by the name of Shatter or something," she said with a frown. "As for the other Heroes, it's entirely a case by case basis. Magus has a gimmick. Dragon Heart can be a bit of an ass with his temper. Comet, well you saw him."

Pausing to consider, Alex made a decision. "How would you feel about being kind of partners?"

Dia could have feinted right there with how her heart was beating its way out of her chest.

Felix had just freed them, and had given her a choice. A decision. She'd never been asked that before.

She tried to answer, but it was just coming out as partial words and overall gibberish.

She gave up, huffing out a breath in frustration. Why did she always have to be like this?

Unlike last time, she knew he wanted it. That realization hit her suddenly, once his question fully sunk into her mind.

Slowly, ever so slowly, she moved closer to Felix and wrapped her arms around his neck. "Yes," Dia finally managed to mutter, the word getting half stuck in her throat on the way out. Standing on her toes, she kissed him for the second time. Their surroundings fell away, and there was only him.

Biting into a cookie, Techster listened intently. Given the concealed threat, he didn't even quirk an eyebrow.

"Well, actually, blackmail is pathetic. Funding is useless when I help develope tech for the City and given my parents unique position in the City. Which I'm afraid I can't go into details on those two subjects for confidentiality reasons," he said with a shrug. "Howie or Techster is preferred," he added as an afterthought. "Part of being a hero is helping people."

He gently laid a circular device on the table, which promptly glowed a deep blue and red.
"See, I want to help you. Maybe make a friend. Or just help. Whatever happens. I'll settle for helping, because you honestly need it. I've given you the means to end your legal battle. I can give you access to more information like that. Beyond that, I'm willing to help cover your tracks. Because I doubt I'm the only one capable of finding out, and everything points towards you being a Hero inside. So why not help, I figure?"

Techster tapped the device. "This detects life. It's showing you and I as alive. The... Maid... Behind me is not by accepted standards. I want to help you cover your history, and help ensure your creations maintain credibility. Of course, I suppose I could be hurting my case laying it all out like that. But I've got nothing to hide here."
