Roleplay F.A.Q.

  • Fantasy, Sci Fi, and Historical are my genres. Fantasy being my favorite and Sci Fi/Historical being close seconds.
  • Advanced / Nation / 1x1 / Casual (only in certain circumstances)
  • I generally write at the 'Advanced Level' meaning 4+ Paragraphs with good grammar.
  • I am usually busy with many projects and RPs, but if you wish to do a 1x1 with me, you'll need to present your case. Those I already do it with have my trust as a Roleplayer.
  • I love many, many fictional universes so me trying to list them all is an effort in futility!

The Dwarf narrowed his eyes at the odd folk and their manner of speaking. He had thought all men were familiar with Westron speech. It was the tongue of men, after all. Even the people of Rohan often spoke it, and he was well traveled enough to have heard their soft, native language once or twice.

Speaking of soft, a Hobbit and more Elves than he was happy about gathered round the clearing.

At first Thurin wasn't entirely certain that he was going to travel with them. Why would he? He'd lived thus far, traveling on his own for reasons of his own. Though they were goodly folk compared to Orcs and Spiders, it did not mean he entirely trusted them after a simple hello. But then again, if they were headed to the same place, he supposed it would not hurt to trek deeper into the forest with a group for now.

Thurin snorted at the request of his name, but then grunted at the logic. He supposed it was purely pragmatic to ask his name if they were to walk together. If this had been a formal meeting he would have introduced himself off the bat. But he'd walked into the clearing with strung and drawn bows.

His Dwarf name was always hidden, save around his kinsfolk. "Thurin Stonewrought, of the Longbeards and Khazad Dum." he said, giving a sweeping bow if only to show proper courtesy. Let none say the Dwarves were not polite when first meeting company. His dark beard was so long it swept across the ground, brushing fallen leaves.

He then gave a secondary nod to the Halfling, to show he had respect for their peoples. His great grandfather had met and told stories of one Bilbo Baggins, and since then, Hobbits had always been welcome within the Stonewrought home. They were small and pillowy looking, but he'd heard they had great wanderlust like he himself had. A thirst for adventure, and a love of song.
I don't think free-speech should ever be censored but neither do I think people should be protected from the social consequences of that speech. That should apply equally to the Milos and the Kathys of the world.

Agreed. Responsibility is key.

I worked in Australia for a couple of years and most Australians seem to believe that the gun confiscations did reduce gun violence. Overall rates of gun violence have dropped but it is a little more difficult to tie this trend directly to the stricter gun laws as it might be part of a trend that was already in effect. If only we had a control Australia!

The overall levels of violence are not analogous however
in 2001 the rate of homicide in Australia was about 13 deaths per million
in 2014 the rate of homicide in the USA was about 47 deaths per million

I'm honestly surprised the difference is that small. Seem's like I very rarely heard about homicides in the news when I was there.

Yeah, like Harbinger said it's popular to attribute America with gun violence because of all of the discussions. However, that's not to say there isn't a huge problem in the states. Plus I believe Australia's gun violence prevention measures were taken in the late 90's so a 2001 statistic might be a tad skewed.
Girls are too mean to angsty assholes?

I don't usually post memes but I just found this and I thought it was appropriate here.

About a year ago I had a discussion with an Australian friend of mine on gun violence. Now I think everyone knows that America is famous for the gun violence in its country, but he was acting like coming here was a death sentence. So I did the math, and it was actually quite informative.

The main reason Australia had such a small amount of mass shootings compared to America was the population size, or the population was certainly a factor. There was .9 mass shootings in Australia a year, and America was 13x larger than Australia (I believe, if memory serves). If we made America have the same population as Australia, then America would have 2.2 mass shootings a year, which granted, is still worse. But not nearly as horrifying as people think, and many European countries have that kind of statistic.

Edit: I think the main reason the deaths are so massive is because this is the 3rd largest country in the world, in regards to population. Though that doesn't excuse gun violence, it's just a factor.

Mockery is always an appropriate response to hateful stupidity. The threat of homicide isn't armor.

I believe censoring humor for threat of violence would be similar to say, censoring speech to not trigger people, if we're talking left wing satire vs right wing opinions on the matter.

@AndreyichJust want you to know I'm not saying you're left or right wing, I meant anyone opposed to it.

She's almost a century old, she's not that oblivious. Give me some credit for that, at least. :3

Perhaps rescuing an important diplomat from brigands in the hills? A diplomat that will owe Dulcena favors, maybe?
He'd heard her entering, but the Ostlander hadn't expected her to run her finger along his back. He blinked, shuddering slightly because it tickled. Cyrdic couldn't help but laugh happily as she sat down next to him, shaking his head as she spoke. "You have it all figured out, eh?" he joked with her, setting his shield down and slipping his shirt over his hard, muscled torso. It was quite a contrast, the stark white linen on his sun-tanned features and dark hair.

He caught himself looking at her when she stretched, and instead decided to fill his vision with the roast fowl. Admittedly, that was a pleasant sight in and of itself. He began to cut it and place food on their plates, speaking as he did so. "Herr Olden would just be glad we delivered it." Cyrdic replied, and tossed her a pomegranate lightly, giving her a wink. "He was a good man. We might not have known him long, but it was easy to tell."

As they ate and drank their fill, the lowered sun completely went below the hills. Only the torches and the fire that blazed in the fireplace illuminated the room, though it was still plenty to see with. He had a bit of sausage in his cheek when he next spoke, giving him the comical likeness of a very rugged chipmunk. "Ulric knows there were a lot of good men at that Castle," he said with a stoic melancholy, and Cyrdic shook his head. "I'm just glad we found each other at the end. I don't think either of us would have lived if we hadn't."

The mental image of Gildenhoof having captured Camilla was something he had to shake off, which led to him thinking about her washing his forehead in the basement. He guessed the two of them really were as 'thick as thieves,' an expression his well-read Quartermaster often used.

When Cyrdic placed his mind on a decision, he bullrushed into it. This time was no different, for both of what he was about to do. "Next thing we do? Let's make sure it's a paying mercenary job." he said to her, and as he spoke he placed his utensils down and slipped his fingers around the thin string that rested on his neck, lifting the necklace off himself and placing it in Camilla's hands. It was his mother's necklace.

"I want you to have that," he told her, his hands enclosed around hers. He'd told her along their travels what it was, but only in passing. "I know you'll take good care of it. You've taken good care of my hide, so far."
@Penny
@Kelewen Do you have a base idea of what you want the first mission to be? If not we can brainstorm.
