The Book Club

1. What is the book you recommend to about everyone?

I'm not usually a Stephen King fan. I don't enjoy most of his work. However I have to recommend The Stand to everybody, no matter what genre you're a fan of. It's a lengthy read, over a thousand pages. But I've read it twice and it's just a compelling, entertaining masterpiece of fiction imo.

2. What are your top 5 favorite books you've read?

• Sea of Swords by R.A. Salvatore
• I Am Legend by Richard Matheson (A brilliant piece of science fiction. I like the movie but it is no representation of the book.)
• Gotrek & Felix: Beastslayer by William King
• The Loch by Steve Alten
• Swordmage by Richard Baker

4. Worst book you've ever read?
I usually don't read books that don't catch my fancy, but I was sort of interested in Blood and Iron by Jon Sprunk and decided to pick it up as a new book to try and get into. But honestly, while the beginning part of the book was interesting and well described, and the magic system was fairly neat, the story could have been better and the writing got worse as the book progressed. I honestly just finished it because I felt like I needed to, and the plot was just okay enough for me to finish it. I thought the protagonists, particularly the main one would be interesting. But he was just generic tbh. Every woman was hot as fuck and the hottest women wanted to sleep with the very generic main character who happened to be special. Those parts were lol worthy.

5. What book seemed really popular but you didn’t like? The Harry Potter series. I like the movies and I know the books well enough to get some of the jokes and talks, but I always felt the books themselves were a bit too...I don't think childish is the right word. I guess light hearted for me. Every year in school the other students would read Harry Potter if it was on the summer reading list and I was too busy reading Warhammer 40k or D&D novels.

Honorable mention to Wizard's First Rule by Terry Goodkind, and any Brandon Sanderson novel.

6. What five books have you always wanted to read but haven’t got round to?

• Eisenhorn
• Hammer's Slammers
• Annotated Elminster
• The Art of War by Sun Tzu (I fancy myself a pretty good military historian, and I think it's sheer stubbornness I haven't picked this up yet. Though I've seen documentaries of the work.)
• The Terror by Dan Simmons

To Cure a Curse

Quick question: by Calanon and Brogach having a bond, do you mean just a random/commonplace type bond that can form between animal and person, or something more elf related, something a bit deeper than that more average person-animal connection? Asking to figure out Rayadell's level of understanding to that.

To most Arbites on lesser worlds, they would claim this would be above their pay grade. Herold however, would have no qualms about shooting those men for dishonoring the rank of the Adeptus Arbites. It was his duty as the keeper of law and peace that these Chaos filth be undone by his hand. As the Chimera opened up, the Krieger was kind enough to give him ample room to wrought the Emperor's will.

The spawn of Chaos, a writhing tentacle monstrosity of terror, muscle, and warp-curse. It tore at the chunks of the Rhino with a mutated strength that could only be unholy in nature. Luckily, the high velocity guns and the psyker had it handled, it seemed. The teeming hordes of filth were another matter, a tide he and the Death Trooper were happy to stem.

Herold took a fragmentation grenade and flung it past the initial mass of heretic turned troops. Seconds before the shrapnel tore through the horde, he bore his shield and unslung his shock maul. The weapon's power meter sang in its highest setting, the maul head glowing with power. With a grimace the likes of which appeared before bloody work was to be done, he advanced.

His shield held aloft, he shove-jerked forward and knocked back a tide of the vermin, before sweeping his shock maul before him. The shock-enhanced melee weapon blew apart heads and limbs. His shield was then held before him before any counter attack could be made. Yet again he pressed forward and ended lives, causing a rift in whatever 'ranks' the foe might have.

It was a subconscious action, but Calanon straightened his shoulders a bit at the compliment, giving a friendly smile. "Sometimes I feel as if Brogach teaches me far more," he said, merely half joking. Truly, Calanon often looked to his mount and truest friend for guidance and a measure of how to keep calm and stay the course. "Thank you." He said earnestly. "We have a bond, and I am honored that Brogach listens to me."

The Elk trotted to the end of the street, and then took a left. His hooves beat up small wisps of snow as Brogach kept pace steadily. It was only when Calanon noticed the large sign with red hemlines titled 'Hearth and Home' that he pulled on the beast's reins to slow him. Calanon's keen eyes gave the place a once over, and he determined it looked the size and manner of an Inn, and Brogach slowed to a casual halt.

The front porch was wide enough for a dozen people to linger and chat or smoke pipes, with various weary chairs one could rock upon. The floor was made of old timber, but still strong Calanon guessed. There was hardly any snow touching the porch, as if Inn exuded warmth.

"I dare say you've grown accustomed to Brogach as well," he said. Kindness often seemed to sing out of Calanon, merely by his smile. "We'll make fast friends of you yet, I think." With an agile sweep of his leg, he slid off of Brogach and allowed Rayadell to do the same, and then placed his hand along Brogach's snout. "Wait here friend. I'll find a warm place for you." He merely needed to pull his cloak about himself, and awaited Rayadell to enter the Inn with him.

First thing was first. They needed two rooms, and a stable for Brogach. He was certain there was such in the back.
