Valeria Rubio

The 'Proving Grounds' - another place that Valeria had been looking forward to seeing again. In spite of the intimidating ambiance, it held a significant memory for her. It was where she had first learned to embrace the power she had been feared for possessing. There was no confusion as to why the wild, destructive nature of fire would instill fear in many, though, that was not what fire elementalists were. They were the ones who had an unexplainable bond with the element, who could bend it at will, and to be able to control such a ferocious force should not feel any less than wonderful.

Valeria strolled across the higher grounds, scanning the area through both her spectacles and the fire resistant goggles that went over them. She took in the events occurring all around her, enjoying the various elemental displays and finding a couple to be especially impressive. More than anything else, however, she was looking out for the flames. The other displays were fantastic, but naturally, she could only be comfortable with commenting on fire demonstrations. In addition, she was keen to find the students whom she could share her experiences in fire control with.

"Ay!!"

To say that Valeria was startled by a massive column of flames shooting up from one of the nearby pits would have been a major understatement. The single display had managed to capture both the magnificent beauty and raw destructive power that the element of fire was. If it had not only been there for just a second, she would have probably teared up gazing at the splendour of it all. Thoughts of concern for the student who had conjured up that flame pillar then quickly filled her mind as the display vanished, and she scrambled over to the hole to check on them. It was also to satisfy her curiosity about which first-year actually had the discipline and courage to perform such a feat.

She sighed in relief when she heard a voice coming from the pit, requesting for... new clothes? Waving away some of the residual steam, Valeria peered in to seeing a teenage girl clad in nothing but a red bikini. The loss of her clothing must have been a result of the earlier flames. Well, that could be worked on. The teacher then stepped down into the pit to meet her.

"Amazing..." Valeria muttered, inspecting the girl's exposed skin. Her bare flesh was unscathed, unaffected by the fire.

She then slipped off the lab coat she was wearing, throwing it around the student to cover her up before grabbing her by the shoulders.

"My dear girl, that was fantastic! How did that feel? Oh, and um, I can get your spare change of clothes if you'll tell me where you've kept them."

When even more guards showed up, Kai knew that it would be even more difficult to escape. The soldiers that had poured out of the carriage had taken him by surprise, and he was not sure if there were anymore still left inside waiting to join the fight. He could not keep up with all these guards swinging at him forever. He had to slow them down since he could not get out of the battle just yet. Stealing a quick glance at Isago, Kai saw the man run into an alleyway, presumably in an attempt to lose the guard he had been fighting.

Another idea then clicked into his mind when he saw that one of the guards had his back to the front of the carriage. The guard swung at the boy once, and he ducked down to avoid the attack. This lead the guard to attempt a strike at his legs. Kai then acted quickly, putting his foot onto the blade of the soldier's sword and stepping up onto his shoulder before he could let go of the weapon. Using the guard as a stepping stool, Kai managed to grab hold of edge above him and pull himself back up onto the caravan roof.

He was safe for the time being. Even if any of the soldiers below attempted to pursue him, he would have ample time to attack. In addition, he would already be on the carriage should the man in white decide to ride off with it at any time.

Vera Wynn

Ever since she had arrived at the academy, Vera had found herself constantly being thrown into new intimidating, yet exciting settings. There was no doubt that the school was committed to pushing the students as close to the natural environment as possible, which was understandable, of course, considering the essence of the abilities possessed by everyone at the establishment. She felt no different about where she currently was - the 'Proving Grounds', as it was called. Despite the daunting atmosphere, Vera found comfort in the presence of the school staff and being surrounded by her fellow students.

She paid close attention to the headmaster as he addressed and instructed the cohort, initially unsure of what to do for her own demonstration, though, an idea for a new experiment came to mind once she noticed the dark holes in the ground. Slipping into one, she sighed in relief at getting away from the distraction of the impressive displays of elemental control taking place all around her. So far, she could only perform illusions on individual targets. That trick was not going to work in her current situation. She began to focus, attempting to use the working principle of a projector to test the level of her control.

Drawing from the light that was seeping into the hole she was in, she directed it onto herself. Her body was soon emitting a gentle white glow. Facing the dark wall, she concentrated on converging the light that was coming from herself towards it, beaming with delight when an image of herself started to form on the wall. However, her smile disappeared almost immediately after. The image was upside down. Right, she had forgotten about that. She turned her attention back to the light rays, making them converge once again. Her satisfaction returned when she eventually got it right. Deciding to do a little more, she did the same with the light coming from either side of her, projecting her side profiles onto the walls to her right and left. She giggled to herself, getting the feel like she was in a house of mirrors.
