The desire to join an RP instead of run one, but the lack of anything being advertised or open that fits my interests

Why are people posting 1x1 'looking for' threads in the main section, when there's a whole section for 1x1 RP's?

It'd be nice to be able to *play* an RP I'm interested in for once, rather than having to *run* one all the time. Of course, doesn't help that I'm picky about what I enjoy.

Hmmmmm... PM inviting me to an RP on Discord by a user who just joined the site and has no posts? Doesn't sound iffy at all, no sir.

Bio

I've been roleplaying in one form or another since the late '90's. I've played as many tabletop games as I have online ones, and the quality of both has varied wildly.
I have an active imagination, and I love immersive, descriptive roleplaying. My genres of choice are sci-fi, and modern-day (with a sci-fi twist). I like RP's that mix reality with fiction, and throw an unusual and exciting twist into an otherwise normal setting - something like Stargate SG-1 would be an example, or Battle: Los Angeles. An almost recognizable world, but with some sci-fi twists.
I'm a fan of military and action-based RP's that do this especially, and they are easily my favourite - though I rarely see any that appeal to me enough - all the military RP's are too 'plain', and anything else modern day is usually fantasy or fandom. Or *shudder* school RPs...

I have a lot of fandoms; Transformers, Macross, MLP: FiM, Fallout, Battletech, Ace Combat, and others to varying degrees. But I don't often join fandom RPs because the ones I'm into don't come up, or I am very picky about my RPs and their plots and feel.

I don't play in free, as I find the short posts and bad spelling and grammar infuriating. I like a lot of depth, story, setting and character to my RPs, so am usually found in Casual and sometimes Advanced. Though, usually running my own RPs.

I'm 43 years old, and live in the UK, so I may not be on all the time.
I also like playing non-human characters, especially anthro ones, robots or synthetics, or some hybrid of both.

Outside of my RP tastes and hobby; I read a lot of books, play wargames and TTRPGs, make model aircraft and vehicles, and am also a brony and furry. I have been running a large local furmeet group for the last 10 years and have been involved in running a very successful UK MLP convention.

Silverwind pointed toward the ground with one hoof; a clearing ran through the forest below. Trees were fallen to either side, and the ground looked broken and uneven, the earth recently disturbed. The darker coloured Pegasi circled overhead, slowing to catch up close enough to Vince so that he could be heard.
"Looks like our survey area," he called out over the rush of wind. "We'll go down and have a looksee; there might be some new passage through the forest, or some other useful or unusual things exposed... best be careful though. The disturbance might have woken up... things... Stick close to me and we should be fine though," he said with a nod, before he dropped down, flaring to land gracefully, rear hooves first.
He pushed his goggles up with one hoof and glanced around cautiously, trotting forward a few steps, and picking his way carefully over the uneven ground. The area smelt off; strong smells of tree sap, turned earth and forest loam mingled with the smells of decay and animal scents. A shiver ran down his spine and he shifted his wings against his sides and flicked his tail. He was sure there were eyes on him from within the treeline, watching and waiting.
"Let's be careful," he said quietly, his bright green eyes, glimmering with energy and excitement earlier now focused and keen. One hoof pawed the loose earth as he moved on.
Should I go ahead and give up on this one?

I had a busy weekend, so no posts from me over it. Plus I was waiting for Foster or Slypheed to make a post, and I would've made one tonight regardless.
Didn't have anything worth saying in the OOC, so I didnt until now.
Either way, there'll be another post from me tonight to keep things moving along.
though it's gonna be admittedly hard to lose that big bitch of an aircraft going slow as it is.

-Because your plane is slow, hurrrr.

Tough shit, deal with it.
I chose a plane I liked, and I'm sticking with it.
As your wingman, I will be sure to call blind every time you move

I don't know what that means, sadly :/

@Silverwind Blade Okay rephrasing with more details: Since the Major is Ranger 1, which of the other flight members are Ranger 2 to Ranger 5.

Ranger 2 - Massasauga (since you bought it up :P)
Ranger 3 - Pilatus
Ranger 4 - Slypheed
Ranger 5 - Foster

Assume the order to be the same for every mission in the future, just to save admin time and to make it easier for us all to remember.
So who's 2-5

I think you just volunteered, congratulations xD

I found this earlier on, when looking at loadouts for A-6's.

Never adopted, but still interesting; an A-6 with an air-launched Tomahawk!
Posted.

Just so we're all on the same page. Here are a couple observations which may lead to continuity issues if we don't stay consistent:

There are presently (2) mentioned runways.
1. Improved Dirt Strip.
2. One fresh Concrete strip.

Are there any more firm details about the Expeditionary base that need to be fleshed out?

What's the current season? From what I've seen so far it looks like it's fairly warm early in the day. Maybe Avalon is in a form of late Spring or early Summer? Maybe it gets hotter/colder from here?

Random thoughts. It's late here.

I like the details you've fleshed out so far for the base, they're in line with my mental picture.
I figured it's as has been mentioned in the IC so far:

- quite new, as it's only about 6-8 months old
- mainly air-oriented, but more ground forces are arriving.
- there are hangars and aircraft shelters, they would probably be fairly modern types as they are recently built.
- there are barracks blocks, but they, like most of everything else, are probably fairly temporary-looking/feeling at the moment
- there's probably not much in the way of places to spend money, etc. as the base is still quite new, but the town that popped up 'outside the wire' is probably where we (and everyone else) does all their socialising and relaxing.

I would agree with the season being early summer, that was what I'd had in mind when I wrote my post.
Maybe an interesting twist would be that the seasons don't quite match up between Earth and Avalon, so it could be winter back home? That sounds like one of those bits of trivia that adds some depth.
I'm potentially interested, just depends on the plot and setting for me.

plane trivia

As Vince headed to get himself ready, Silverwind finished his breakfast, leaving a modest tip for the waitress before he shrugged on his saddlebags. The grey-coated pegasus flapped his wings a few times to make sure they were settled, before trotting over to the town square to take over a few more sights while he waited. He had to admit, the little town of Ponyville was pleasant enough. The collection of whimsical buildings gave the place an air of fun; what with the building shaped like a carousel, another like a Jester's hat, another still like it was made of cake or pastry. He grinned at the sight. Hopefully once his mapping was finished, he could head back and have a look around some more. There was a lot here to be curious about, he reflected. Idly, he glanced at the statue of Celestia that stood nearby, admiring the craftmanship, before Wince returned.

"Alright... lets go then, lead the way"

"Okay then," he said with a grin, rearing and kicking the air with his forelegs. He took off with a few strong flaps of his red-trimmed wings. "I'll try not to go too fast," he added with a wink. "Though I'm certainly no Rainbow Dash," he added with a chuckle. "Come on, let's go!"
He climbed higher over the roofs and towards the clouds, banking gently and riding a thermal higher into the morning sky as he headed for the nearby band of dark trees and vegetation that marked the border of the Everfree Forest, the land beneath only glimpsed through its' interwoven trees and branches, the thick canopy blocking out much of the view from above. A few strong gusts, random and untamed, whispered their way, and the blue-maned cartographer rode them out looking back to Vince and giving him a nod to ensure he was all right, before pressing on, consulting the compass strapped to his foreleg and pointing ahead and letting Vince come alongside. "A little bit further on, I think - should be where we need to be, and where we need to start our exploring!"
