Fallout: Independence

Grognak hadn't been a 'resident' of the town long. For the most part he'd gotten to know about the head honchos of independence through rumours and hearsay but today would be the first day he could see most of them in the flesh. That was if he could wake up on time. While Independence was very welcoming to people from all walks of life, a Super-Mutant was still an oddity to most of the inhabitants though after he didn't try to rip anyone in half, the residents precariously let him stay. The brute had been spending most days wandering around town and his nights at the bar, passing out at the table and sleeping there over night. The lifestyle wasn't that much of a far cry from when he was on the road with Henry but all the free time was nagging away at Grognak as he yearned for a new calling, a new quest to occupy his time.

Eventually the chatter of Independence residents outside coaxed Grognak awake as the lumbering musculature with a face got up and stretched. He made his way out of the bar and into the streets of Independence as a crowd began to form for the Mayor's big speech this morning. Grognak listened somewhat impatiently, wanting to get on with the rest of the celebrations ASAP but his mood was soured as he heard the bad news. Though he'd never seen the mayor, Gorgnak still wished her a speedy recovery. Wishing to know more, Grognak scanned the crowd before his eyes settled on the Sheriff. A man of such authority would likely be in the loop right? Grognak weaved his way through the dissipating crowd as best he could before speaking to the Sheriff.

"Lawman! Grognak would like to know what knowledge you have about the mayor's ailment." The Super-Mutant exclaimed though not overtly aggressively.

Fallout: Independence

Grognak the Super-Mutant

A Big 10 caravan were on their way towards Abeline, delivering some supplies to the town. Guarding the Caravan was Henry Banks, a cracks hot with a rifle and avid reader of Grognak comics when he could get his hands on them. The trip had been relatively uneventful for the group until things took a turn in the evening. A group of Super-Mutants got the jump on the group as they made their way along. Henry and his crew fought back as best as they could which turned out to be just enough, taking out the group with no casualties on their side. However, the fight had lasted quite a while and not everyone was unscathed. With a bullet in the arm, Henry propped himself up on the Caravan as the caravan made camp and tended to the wounded.

The lead guard zoned out somewhat in his watch as the dark could only provide so much stimulus to the wounded Henry, however his attention was brought back as he heard a scream from the traders and the stomach turning realization that there was now one less Super-Mutant laying dead on the ground on the impromptu battlefield. Henry hobbled his way back, expecting a massacre, only to see a Super-Mutant and Yao Guai clashing by the light of the campfire. Taking aim, Henry fired at the two fighting titans and finally getting a hit on the Yao Guai on his last shot. He quickly fumbled to get another bullet loaded but given the distance, Henry knew he was done for. To Henry’s surprise it wasn’t a blade or bullet that struck him there, rather the words yelled by the Super-Mutant. People dispute what exactly those words were but the brute got his point across, he was Grognak and he wasn’t there to hurt the Caravan goers. Obviously the group didn’t trust Grognak right away but not wanting to waste their dwindling resources on fending off the Super-Mutant, the caravan went along with Grognak’s words but kept an eye on him.

Luckily for the Super-Mutant the group came around to him, especially Henry who shared his personal stash of Grognak comics with the mutant. Though the transition stage was difficult, Grognak was eventually integrated into Henry’s group of caravan guards and acted as some extra muscle for the group on their treks. Things stayed this way for years until Henry decided to retire from the guard life and settle down. Grognak, only staying on because of his friend Henry, decided to head off on his own into the wastes and towards somewhere he might be able to find work and those that needed him. He headed for Independence to carve out his next epic.

Personality Traits

Charlie tries to keep a professional demeanour when on the job which is most of the time as a private investigator. When in a more casual setting Charlie really likes to cut loose, a stark contrast to his serious facade. He draws a strong satisfaction from completing assignments, especially those with an air of mystery to them.

Backstory

Charlie grew up in a very strict household. His parents pushed him to be the greatest he could be but any love behind the gesture was lost on Charlie who only had his confidence broken down by the constant pressure and belittlement. Charlie found a release after he got his driver’s license, giving him an out from his household. His grades began to slip and pretty soon Charlie was graduated with no intention of moving on with his education.

After high school Charlie moved out and away, wanting to put as much room between him and his parents as he could. He worked odd jobs, traveling across America until he settled in Virgil’s Grove. After settling into his new home city, Charlie took an online course while working as a waiter to get his PI license, taking the job simply because he thought it might be a cool gig. That cool gig has lasted him the last six and a half years. Now with the infection running rampant, Charlie follows the suggestion of getting out of dodge. However, as soon as Charlie was safe he began to think on the situation a little more, figuring it was weird that such an average place would be the ground zero for the living dead. These thoughts are what eventually lead him to joining up with others to head back into Virgil’s Grove.

Other Info

Charlie’s physically fit and has the patience of a saint, both aspects needed to be a good private investigator. His main strength though is his investigative prowess.
