Current I'm a pretty good writer and former site staff; I still deal with imposter syndrome every time I log on. You're definitely not alone. And t's worth trying anyway.

I just finished The Secret History, a very Gen X book. Never Let Me Go before that, which I'd recommend to any writer outside the MFA atmosphere who wants to know emotonal restraint.

@Ruby One question, is there a development of power being implemented within the story or the power we have now will be fixed throughout the story?

Unless your character had volunteered for Alpha Flight, then you just naturally have power development because this will be the first chance for many of these characters to really use their powerset in a conflict setting.

I'd generally sway towards development. It's not like Canada had it's own Professor X to guide them; it's been Lara and the gang, doing their own thing, pretty much since Logan's death.
This sounds like a lot of fun. Definitely interested, although I hope it's okay that I'm not all that knowledgable with regard to comic canon/lore, but I hold my own regardless :)

Works for you IC. The kids (now young adults) never knew the X-Men lore, just read some comics, saw a few movies--you'll know IC as much as you should.
Gotten this question a few times on Discord already: yeah, you can apply for Lara.

Additionally feel free to contact me on Discord if you want to chat about potential characters or the game, but I don't plan on using a Discord for this game at the moment. Keep the activity and conversation focused here.

Game Brief

  • Set in the X-Men universe as seen in the movie Logan.
  • Will center on the group of mutant kids that ran to Canada for their lives in the same movie.
  • Set roughly ten years after the movie.
  • All characters will (probably) be OCs, save Lara.
  • Game features a well developed storyline, with crossroads for character decisions to determine the end game.
  • Game will take place mostly in upstate New York.
  • I'll be the GM. To keep the storytelling tight, I'll remain the only GM.
  • Horror elements. Maybe a splash of cyberpunk here and there.
  • Does dip into Marvel cosmic, Celestials and Eternals.
  • Will feature the return of an OG X-Man.
  • Casual to High Casual.
  • Small group.

IC Information:

The X-Men were more than a legend, they were real. The comic books and the cartoons and the movies never did tell the real story. The general public knows nothing of the incident at the US-Canadian border. Whereas around the world the age of heroes was laid to rest, there remains a group of mutants secretly active and training in Canada. From self-sufficient children to fiercely independent young adults, they remain in the outskirts of society, tucked away in remote locations within the Canadian wilderness. They are rumor officially denied by the Canadian government. Though they assist the Canadian government when asked, it wasn't until the formal repeal of the Sentinel Act by the US Congress, signed by newly elected President Steve Rogers, that any measure of peace of mind was brought to the last group of mutants in all the world.

A peace of mind that was short lived.

Their Canadian handlers have called the group of mutants to gather in a single location for the first time in over a year. The US government has shared intelligence regarding a string of bizarre incidents in a small hamlet in upstate New York. What began as reports of ghost sightings and hauntings quickly became something far more tangible when residents of the small hamlet disappeared without a trace, numbering into the thousands. When US law enforcement moved in there were claims that "powered individuals" repelled them from the city. When the US military sent teams of commandos in, the very same special operators left barely cognizant mere hours after their initial insertion.

When a Navy SEAL claimed to have battled the X-Men in the small hamlet's tiny highschool, recently mothballed Sentinel drones were dusted off and sent in. They recorded zero readings, saw absolutely no signs of life, and stayed in the hamlet until they too vanished from thin air. President Rogers ordered the town zipped up tight, the story of a mysterious outbreak the official narrative. It was not a real solution. It was only when an old friend of Rogers' brought to his attention the existence of the group of mutants in Canada that the request was made to the Canadian government:

If what's happening in upstate New York is tied to mutants, they would need mutant help.

This young group of mutants gathers as requested in a forest retreat to hear out the US President and former Captain America. The Canadians have never ordered the young mutants to any mission in the past, and while they won't start now, they have allowed President Rogers to brief the young mutants and to ask for their help himself. Their help in understanding what haunts the small hamlet in upstate New York, even if it means having to confront the truth behind the fate of the X-Men.

OOC Information:

This game picks up the story of Lara and the group of young mutants from Logan. They've been allowed to grow into their own people with little interference from the Canadians, given low profiles were kept and certain rules followed. Some might have decided to help the Canadians in a more pro-active role, prehaps joining a new iteration of Alpha Flight, while others such as Lara might have spent the last few years wandering alone in the Canadian wilderness, keeping to the very fringes of society.

The plan is for the group to be Original Characters. It's possible one of those kids could have been a younger version of a canon character, so if you think you have a canon idea for one of these kids that could work well, don't be afraid to pitch it--but the idea is a group of mostly OCs. Let people create their own mutants without any pressure from canon. The storyline will very much be an exploration of X-Men history, with a concentration on that horrible night when 600 people were injured or killed, including many of the X-Men.

Without the X-Men there is no one to defend humanity from old friends or foes.

So right now that's the plan: A quasi-linear story for a small group to play through, and decisions to be made to shape what kind of a post X-Men universe we want to write in. Is this the dawn of a new X-Men? Is this the fever dream of a dying breed, one last adventure before the lights get turned off and the doors get locked for good? I could make that decision as the GM, but it seems more fun and organic for us to decide through IC actions as a group.

There will be elements of horror in this. This is a small town being haunted. Any time someone goes in force, they come out babbling what certainly seems like nonsense to anyone having to listen, if they come out at all. It just seems to be haunted by ghosts of the X-Men past.

Questions? Feel free to ask.

But...why?

Will Smith is a good actor, if anything hes underrated. He's just insanely popular which is a whole different category.

Will Smith's acting wasnt the issue with the film. Pretty much everything else, including his character was.

Also the narrative on racism wasnt stereotypical as much as it was just bizarre amd poorly handled. Itd be a lot less offensive if it was even a little more subtle, but then this guy made suicide squad, so what can you do?

Will Smith, interesting enough story because it was universe building--and I just kinda like attempts at that. One of the reason I'm a gamer.
I liked Bright.
