They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

[Moots are every few hundred years]
This also means (I had assumed) that we've gone back to Arys and Feoras had not seen each other since their breakup centuries ago, and there's only been one Moot since then. If I'm wrong, please correct me. Actually, tell me which it is because I don't want to assume a lack of correction means I understand. There's been too much confusion for that to be a safe method (not to mention nobody going "oi, Sini, you said every year but it's really only every few centuries!"

[...] If it's necessary to draw up a rough timeline -- even just an order of events with a loose date, and then place new events on the line as we come up with them, I could do that. It would be no imposition, and maybe that'd make things easier for people that don't like having to do math and organize events? I'm not trying to cause problems. Honestly I'm not sure why a minor issue (are the moots really 500 years apart?) ever needed anything beyond a simple "well you were wrong, Shy". [...] there's a related issue here that I can't even say because I know I'll be harsh and sound really nasty if I try to express it. X.x I'm kinda frustrated about this particular problem too, and I don't think PMing this one will make me sound any less nasty. *headdesk*

If you're playing D&D right now, Runic, there's no need to reply immediately. I may live on the internet but I know not everyone does, and I'm fine waiting for answers if you're busy or something needs to be discussed. It's not like you just vanished or something. O.o

There's another concern I can say more or less politely, and I'll PM that.

EDITED BY DM REQUEST
@Prince of Seraphs well, if Falk's got alliances with the other two, not allying with Falk if the possibility presents itself is probably unwise for Spring. =P Of course Nyx doesn't knwo that Falk doesn't unduly manipulate friends (and I'm not entirely certain that's the case. Betrayal and manipulation are not the same, though manipulation that does undue harm would certainly be betrayal as well), but even so.

@Zahrale To be more specific, goblins seem fine. We already have one, and they can be played well. And Nyx is a Mara -- which apparently is not completely unlike a boogieman. Besides, in the end, how much a char is liked comes down to how it's played and personality. Deliberately unpleasant characters can be enjoyed even if not liked, and they can be just as useful in many situations, and just as fun.
@Zahrale I like underfey! We've run into them in the FATE campaign I'm in, but then, all fey are pretty much malevolent when it comes to humans in that world. I think the fey/underfey division for the FATE game is based on intelligence.

There's a version somewhere else where underfey are the loose equivalent of the above world/underdark division (drow, duergar, etc). Generally seen to be more menacing and malevolent. If you've got the Seelie/Unseelie division, that probably already handles the concept. I don't know that I've encountered any with both fey/underfey and Seelie/Unseelie.

@Prince of Seraphs@BlackPanther Nyx would be in favor of peace, wouldn't he be? *lets herself be hopeful, doubts it will come to pass*
@LadyRunic every few centuries? Huh. Alright, not the impression I had at all. @Prince of Seraphs How would you like to fix the discussion between Sini and Nyx, or should we just keep it in mind going forward?

Runic, I take it that if Moots are only every few centuries that individual rulers send emissaries and negotiate trades and such with other courts independently, and far more frequently?

Shame you're stressed, but just get back to me whenever you're free again. I don't have a statted game as often as you seem to, but I do have a live rp session of some sort most nights, and they can eat up a lot of time. More, if it's statted and you're the DM, I would think. Totally worth it thought!

I'm interested in what Falk thinks makes a fey noble. I'm seeing some definite preferences in him, and there's not much to go on when it comes to what caused them. *tries to wrestle the Fall King under a microscope and fails badly* Also interesting that he'd accept so readily, but perhaps it's because Summer is sincere, due to his origins -- and though Falk might not betray a friend, he can also be reasonably sure this isn't primarily from an ulterior motive, and so not so much a risk. @.@ Ugh, it does put Spring in a bind, though, @Prince of Seraphs. X.x I'm getting so frustrated with the way things are going. Partially because of the separation of characters, partially because of the rp structure in general...partially because intrigue is not my strong suit. It just seems like there's no good way to keep Spring on an even footing, which was (I thought) part of the idea of the setting. No one court is at a serious disadvantage in comparison to any other, nor at a significant advantage. But that's not at all how it's shaping up, and I don't see any good way to fix it. This is especially true because an ally's support is far more valuable than an advantage taken forcibly. We'll see, I guess.

It's interesting that part of why Falk doesn't get overtures for friendship in as many words is probably because it's a very foolish move for most -- particularly if they don't hold the rank of ruler of a court. I know Sini's preference is to make friends rather than enemies, and peace rather than war, but there's a definite hierarchy of interests, and Spring will always come first for her. But even so, she'd know that Falk doesn't like Nyx, and she'd be aware that ignoring that would be unwise. So if it ever came up in discussion, she'd probably end up phrasing it as a desire that they be on better terms, not specifically friends. Then again, friendship in general is not generally how fey seem to work.

Sini: Fey are deceitful and manipulative, and thus we are wary of each other. Puts a crimp in forming friendships, it does.

@BlackPanther because mentioning Feoras and stuff your char was involved in.
@Belle I'll be posting today or in the next couple days, but I don't see a need for you to wait on me.

@yoshua171 YOSH! *glomp*
@LadyRunic I did my best not to be picking holes, but if we have something that makes a serious hole in the /world/, it does need to be discussed. That's the case with the timeframe for Moots, and whether Feoras and Arys had seen each other, and also for if Dagon arrived before or after Arys froze her heart. I did say several times that it would be best to let you weigh in. The ability to discuss goings-on in the rp should not be limited just to those involved. For example -- when Nyx said something that indicated Moots were yearly, or at least very frequent, and Sini responded in kind -- /anyone/ could have jumped in and said, "Wait a minute, there was this other line that says they're very /very/ rare and we should fix this, because both can't be true." The same would go for if Sini was talking to...say, Arys, and she said something inaccurate about Spring. I would expect Prince to tell me "Actually Shy, it's like this." Or you. Or even Panther or Belle. And if a player -- not a dm -- noticed something that didn't fit, I'd expect them to say "whoa hold on, you're confusing me because this doesn't match!"

Speaking of, what /is/ the timeframe for Moots? How often do they occur?

The OOC is for discussion pertaining to the rp. This most recent exchange was all directly relevant to it -- theories, musings, details. PM would exclude everyone else -- and I wasn't even addressing Seraph exclusively for most of it. Unless we make a PM with everyone in it, and make a new one every time we get a new player, I'm really not sure how to make PMs work. I expect people to weigh in on their characters and their plans and their ideas, and ideas they get from something someone else mentioned. That can't happen when you have only two people able to see it -- and worse, PMs lead to a high potential for those two people coming up with a very different picture for events than what the players of the characters involved envisioned -- or what the setting allows, or even what other people have in their heads, and building on it, and then it would go IC without any ability to be checked, corrected, or reconciled with the versions others have and are building off of. This can lead to huge inconsistencies, and I'd think it should be avoided.

It'd be different if we were discussing something unrelated, though really nobody is expected (and most do not try) to read the entire OOC of an rp. Important information goes in the first few posts. Everything else is assumed to be just discussion. ...Though you will get the occasional dork like me that plows through twenty pages of chatter sifting for details because I'm nosy like that. -.-;

If the issue is really how long the OOC is getting, there's just as much chatter between people as there is serious discussion of the rp. ...I can't think of any tactful way to say it, so I'm just gonna say it and please understand I don't mean it to be as snotty as it sounds. Do you want us to stop commenting in general? I mean, there's a full page of reactions to something Falk did somewhere in there, among other things. And a page of character songs. What /is/ okay to put in the OOC?

In the end, almost everything I bring up is aimed at figuring things out, or adding to the rp. If you have specific examples where it's not an issue for anyone but the two involved, please let me know and I'll look at those and try to cut back on them. ...And if the plague discussion is one of them, that was mostly me geeking out and I outright said I didn't think changing anything was needed, just to avoid having it be poking holes.
The moorcat didn't object to Zander's pat, but neither did he solicit further attention. His girl was the important thing right now -- until he found her again, he wouldn't waste time with anything else. But the group didn't seem to have many ideas. The Dimuran woman suddenly split off, but Wyth stuck with Ethan. The young Muran was the one his girl liked best, and he'd been the one they'd known longest, though not by a large margin. The others were left behind, but eventually the odd boy and the man with the healing caught back up again. They were talking again. He didn't want to be talking, he wanted to be doing. Why did none of them have any idea where the bad man had taken his girl? He paced restlessly around the three, almost all of his strength back by then. When they /did/ find the one that took her, Wyth would be ready.

Various people were in the practice yard, including the girl in question. She’d changed out of her dress and now wore loose pants and a long-sleeved shirt that obviously saw a lot of rough use. In addition to Kirk, there were two other men with her. One was the guard from the day at the market, the one she’d called Fitz, and another one roughly the same age as the other two. Between the three of them, they seemed to be working on teaching Amuné how to fend off multiple enemies at once. The girl seemed to do alright keeping track of where they were, but she was having trouble keeping herself away from them. Even as Cain approached, the guard he’d threatened earlier got her from behind, countering her attempts to extricate herself from his grip and tossing her to the dirt. The child hit the ground in a roll, but didn’t manage to get enough leverage to flow back to her feet, ending up flat on her back instead.

“Kirrrrk, no fair!” she complained, accepting the hand he offered to pull her back to her feet. He just laughed. “Fights are nae fair, lass,” the other redhead told her, shaking his head. “And with you runnin’ off all the time, you need to know how to handle a group. I dinnae want to see you turn up like that day at th’ market again, you hear me?”
“...Yes Fitz.” Amuné ducked her head and kicked at the dirt. He started to ask if she was ready for another round, but instead looked over as Cain entered the yard, subtly moving so he was between the girl and the new arrival. The shift of his focus wasn’t lost on her, however, and she leaned to the side so she could look past Fitz and see who it was. “Cain?” she asked, surprised but not upset, waving a greeting. “I thought you said dinner. I’m busy right now.”

The child might have been glad to see him, but the three guards were considerably more wary. Kirk waved the third one closer, and said a few words too softly too be overheard from a distance. He might have permission to be on campus, but his actions had not been forgotten, nor overlooked.

@TheMinorFall No problem. ^.^
@BlackPanther Ah, I'm sorry me trying to analyze the political ramifications of various actions is stressing you out. =/ I'm not a frequent player in political intrigue-type rps, and I do get rather caught up in it -- plus my mind overanalyzes stuff to begin with, and the ongoing conspiracy theory plot I'm in for another rp isn't helping any. @.@

Any analysis of OOC stuff is done mostly as it pertains to IC, and character motivations. IC stuff I analyze is done with an eye towards things to play with, as well as motivations and goals, with a large side of repercussions. I sorta figured that's part of the game, for an rp like this? The whole idea seems to be intrigue and manipulation, which to me means looking very carefully at what is said and what is meant. ^.^; I can try to back off but I won't make any promises, because honestly I don't want to tell you something and then not do it -- and I'm not sure I can. As a side note, I need to work on my self control and stop obsessing. x.x None of it is trying to annoy you, that I can tell you with absolute certainty. *makes you tea* Sounds like RL is attacking everyone lately. =/
@shylarah
No

Just....no

...Context please? O.o

@Prince of Seraphs We'd need to ask @LadyRunic what she had in mind, I suppose. It probably depends on the fey in question, to some extent. I'd think that heirs could be from any partner, potentially, and that there's heirs from partnerships that don't include marriage, and probably partnerships that aren't permanent (ie, not actually marriage -- or is there a divorce equivalent as well, in fey culture? I'd think the vow of "til death do us part" might be binding, but then again, it'd also prevent killing your spouse if you vowed to love and cherish, possibly. Hm...this is a whole new realm of intrigue) can include sharing resources and such while they are in effect.

Again, if this is /standard/ in fey culture, there's no reason for Arys to be so upset, so I question it.

And to be a ruler in the first place and not be deposed immediately needs strength. I wonder if there were many successful rebellions where the people as a whole overthrew the ruler, because the impression I got was that normally there is at least one particularly powerful fey that helped shape any rebellion -- and then took power after. Granted there's nothing specific to support this, but it's the feeling I have.
