They say it's about the journey, not the destination. This is true of many things. Pizza delivery is not one of them.

TFW you know what you want to happen but the words aren't cooperating. Why is plot suddenly so much harder to write?

Glad to see I'm not the only follower of Lord Cato, god of wisdom, on this most auspicious Superb Owl Sunday.

Bio

I am an adult, though I don't usually act like it. I'm a voracious reader, and not overly picky about books. I am artistic in a variety of areas, including music, drawing, writing, and sculpting. I have a minor obsession with dragons, and love the color violet. Fantasy is my preferred genre, be it past, future, urban...as long as it has a fantasy flavor to it. I also like scifi, mystery, and some horror. I am crazy, and I like tormenting my characters. But I don't bite...much. ^.~

@Oak7ree EWWWWWW *shudder* I...I can't. It's like mayo on corn beef. Some things should /not/ be done. *consoles self with a good tomato basil pasta sauce*
Belasý finished the Currahee in just over forty minutes, a personal best. Zhanna was quicker but not by much, and the older soldier had the Russian in sight for most of the run. She closed some of the gap with her usual sprint over the last hundred meters or so. This was training, not combat, and Bel felt it was important to be able to push herself even when worn out. Sprinting the end of the run trained her body to reach for her deepest reserves. She pushed her pace for the run, not so fast that she'd collapse but enough that it wore her out, and the last push invariably left her breathless.

But she didn't get to sit down. Combat didn't take a break just because you were tired, and flopping down after exercise was bad for you anyhow. Instead she slowed to a walk and kept moving until her heartbeat was slowed to a reasonable rate. The captain told the two ladies to get changed and meet up again. By then she could see Izkry and a few of the others jogging in, though it'd be a couple minutes before they were done yet. She gave Captain Stevens a brisk salute and turned to head in.

Once again it took her little time to be ready, and she didn't dawdle. Her brother and the ones he was running with were just jogging up, and she lifted her gaze long enough to meet his before looking away again, tilting her head towards the baracks long enough to let him know what was expected.

---

Izkry was winded by the time he dropped to a walk. He was fit, but six miles was a long way and he didn't have the personal discipline of his sister, nor the drive to improve. He'd never been able to match her, and he'd always been a little lazy.

He rather missed the luxury of laziness just then. "Looks like...changing...then back here," he told the other between deep breaths. He too knew better than to stop all at once, and he offered Kaneda a hand as he paced a little. "Was good to talk. And again, well done on the new record. Don't think anyone will break it, not for a while." The young man laughed breathlessly, shaking his head with a smile. If he could take a motorcycle or something, he /might/ be able to beat the insane record. Maybe. If there were decent roads that didn't have too many hairpin turns...yeah, no, that record would be staying for a while.
@Kessir Tarkin I've got half a psot done~!

EDIT: I mean @KaiserElectric >.<;;
@Oak7ree ...who puts ketchup on spaghetti? EW. I'm pretty srue there's a law against that.
@KaiserElectric Bel understand Russian, and Zhanna can probably tell that, based just on her actions. She acts like she understands when spoken to, even if it's all very Belasy-style in /how/ she goes about it. Certainly Izkry knows a word or two, or a short phrase (he's probably asked her how she's doing on occasion, but relied on body language for response). And he probably asked Bel to teach him how to say "Sorry I don't know Russian" and "My sister does". ...She probably didn't teach him the second one, though. =P

Bel wouldn't try to win, but she's pushing herself. I'm happy to let Zhanna be faster than Bel. Should that be how it goes? ^.^
Given that Bel pushes herself a /lot/ on this sort of run, I'mma make an assumption about where she finishes in regards to the others. Kaneda is sticking with Izkry and some of the others, and he's slower than Bel by a good bit. John and Maria are dead last, Oscar is...hating the run and so not pushing himself that much. So really the only competition would be Zhanna and/or Anton.

@ONL@KaiserElectric do we wanna do anything about this? I know Bel's at /least/ ten minutes, possibly more, ahead of her brother. She probably runs ~9mph (40 min for six miles, and possibly a little faster since she flat out sprints the very end). It's a little faster than the overall average for marathoners, but marathoners run a LOT farther than six miles. Even with full gear, it seems about right to me. If the expected average for them is 50-60 minutes, this seems reasonable. She's fast...for a regular old human in excellent shape and health.

Lemme know. I intend to post in the next few days, and if I don't hear anything I'm just gonna write it. ^.^;;
@Lady Selune if my morals and ethics remain intact, I do not believe I would not be able to be happy at their detriment.

It's edible, but it doesn't taste good.
Lee was taken aback by the enthusiastic greeting, but she just smiled and gently freed her hand. The barrage of questions made her take half a step back, but she laughed and shook her head when Axel stepped in. "Nice to meet you, Cal. And let's see...I've been teaching here a few years now. I love teaching dance. It's challenging but rewarding, and it keeps me active. I know a lot of different dances -- ballroom, popular, ballet, you name it. If I don't know one I always like to learn. I started with ballet as a little girl." Cecilly smiled at the memory. Ballet was technically demanding, and she'd never been a big fan of pointe shoes,but she had to admit there was something magical about a dancer en pointe.

She didn't respond to the question about her eyes, omitting it entirely as she went through the questions in her had. The uncertain smile she'd given at the time would have to do. "My favorite would have to be tap, although softshoe is pretty nice. I like it because it's not just a visual art. It incorporates sounds produced by the dancer as well as from the music. I do indeed give private lessons, though those are arranged on an individual basis. I don't usually allow drop-ins, but as this is less a lesson and more an informal session, you are welcome to participate." She smiled at the pair. "Thirty's the cutoff age, but I don't think--"

Whatever she'd been about to say was interrupted by music suddenly blaring over the sound system, loudly enough that a number of people in the room flinched and shouted at the pair by the console. Cecilly herself cringed, her face twisting in pain. "Nikki Wyatt, I told you to let Jareth do it."

"I didn't do it!"

"You did!" The youth next to her quickly stopped the playback, and then turned the volume /way/ down.

"I didn't, I gave you the cds to put in--"

"And then you hit play before I'd set the volume right!"

"Enough, both of you. There's a reason I've told you not to mess with that, Nikki. Not everyone likes their music loud. Some of us want to be still able to listen to it at ninety." A few people chuckled. Far more rolled their eyes. "At any rate, since I have your attention, I'd like you to meet Cal and Axel. They'll be joining us today, so please make them welcome." There was a chorus of greetings, and someone hollered an inquiry as to whether Calamity would be joining permanently. Cecilly frowned slightly at the comment. "Jareth, go ahead and start the music," she called. Under the general commotion as a room full of young people scrambled to partner up, Lee turned to Axel. "I think it was your friend that said something about knowing swing, before I came out of the office, but what about you? Are you good, or do you need a few pointers?"

Regardless of his answer, she intended to ask him for the first dance, unless he showed a decided preference for pairing up with Cal -- or if Cal asked him first. She was curious as to how he'd just happened to drop by.
@Lady Selune@Timemaster

...no offense, but maybe you marry her and then the relationship is awful and makes you both thoroughly miserable? =P

Your family never finds this thread, but they get shown screenshots by mutual friends. =P

I wish to be happy, without any significant change to my mentality, ethics, morals, or worldview. And I have a number of reasons why it's not actually possible to corrupt this wish, but I'm open to refining it further. <3
