Known for its gang violence, and high rates of homicide, Compton had Adrian's family in a chokehold, constantly pulling them into a life of violence. With his mother working two jobs, he spent most of his time with his father, a member of the Piru Bloods. Piru Bloods were a prominent gang in Compton, keeping Adrian's father busy but also Adrian would end up meeting other children of gang members that he would come to call friends. He would see the violence that his father was apart of, spurring him on to follow in his father's footsteps.
Following in his father's foot steps, he'd get into fights, and talk about the gang as if it was family. This was the example set by those around him and Adrian only knew this life, struggling every day for a meal, watching his mother stressed and his father in and out of the home. Eventually the life would catch up to his father, never making it home one night, found shot in the middle of the street. Only 13 when his father was murdered, this one act of violence would end up changing Adrian's life for the worse and for the better.
The gang would end up recruiting the son of the recently murdered, happy to use Adrian's gifts for their own ends. Like his father before him, the boy sat at 6'0" and fit the stereotype of Samoans being notoriously big and powerful individuals. Enlisted by the gang, Adrian was given a gun and sent to get revenge for his father's murder. The task was easy enough, catching the suspected killer outside his home, playing with his child. For a moment it seemed like Adrian would pull that trigger, ending not only that man's life but his own. Instead he hesitated, emotion flaring as the confrontation grew louder and louder until the police finally arrived to take him into custody.
Adrian's trial would go unheard by the public at large, ending in a guilty verdict and a sentence of 2 years in a juvenile detention center plus a half a year of probation. Those two years would be the roughest time of his life, having to fight to protect himself, keeping himself solitary from the other youth as a way to keep himself out of trouble. His mother would rarely visit, a disdain for her son and the life he chose. Upon his exit of the Juvenile facility, the most unlikely person would show up, his uncle Anthony Mata'afa. This is the part where the for better would begin.

Those gangs didn't care about him nor his wellbeing which helped him see just how much he nearly messed up his life. Boxing would call to him, showcasing a natural talent that many took notice of. Soon enough Adrian would decide that he wanted to go into the amateurs after nearly knocking out an experienced amateur that was soon to make his pro debut. Adrian's first amateur match was a work of art, beating his opponent in only three rounds.
The moment that Adrian turned 18, his pro career would begin. After many years going undefeated on the amateur circuit, there was a level of hype surrounding the boy that was only reserved for a few notable boxers in history. He would end up living up to that hype and more, continuing his undefeated streak in his first handful of matches. Fame would follow the wins, leading to the meeting of his future wife and famous actress Dianna King and coach/best friend Marcus Graves.
Fame would rapidly grow around the now world famous boxer, leading to him pursuing the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship, and eventually winning that title in a dominant performance. The first Samoan to ever hold the title brought a level of prestige that not even Adrian was prepared for. Soon would come the partying, wild expenditures, and adventuring across the planet. Though his greatest achievement would be the birth of his daughter, a joy greater than any belt could provide him.
As the Undisputed Champ, Adrian would exude a level of cool and calm that many latched onto, seeing him as a people's champion, making sure to always give back except for the community he was born in. There would always be contention to how he treated his former home of Compton, California but it couldn't overshadow his accomplishments. Underneath that demeanor he presented was a silent rage from his past that had gotten him into trouble a few times and sued by a fan once before. This life would soon take a toll on the Champ.
Before his most recent defense, a back injury would plague the champ, an injury of such magnitude that the doctors intended for him to be out of action for seven months. Instead Adrian would make it back in action in only four, something most people would consider a miracle but not completely out of the realm of possibility. Everyone would come up with many conclusions for why he was able to return so soon and there seemed to be issues leading up to his defense but one thing for sure was that he passed his pre-fight and post-fight drug tests. He head proved once again why he was a generational talent and not much could ruin his career...for now. ▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔ |
